How do you install a stereo into a 1990 Chevy Silverado?
The easiest way for a do-it-yourselfer is to go to www.Crutchfield.com (or is it www.Crutchfield's.com?) . They sell car stereos and electronics online and by catalog.
First, write down what Year, Make, and Model of car or truck you own.
Go to Crutchfield's or call them by phone. Enter or describe your car or truck's data. What happens is they will supply you with a list of stereos, amps, changers, speakers that will fit your vehicle.
The nice thing about Crutchfield's is that they have the right kind of wiring harnesses, mounts, and dashboard adapters for your specific vehicle! Try getting all that on your own! Some units they sell will include all the hardware.
Side notes: You don't really need to get an amp or new speakers, or a CD changer. If you can afford it, buy a car stereo that will let you hook up your iPod......so then who needs a CD player or CD changer? LOLOL.
First off, if you want to do it yourself here is a list of what you have to have:
* CD Player
* You need the plastic piece that replaces the vents and small cubby hole in the center of your dash, this will be the new loaction of your CD player, it will have an opening in the where the cubby hole used to be that the CD player will fit in. (can be found at any electronics store)
* Wiring Connector (can be bought at walmart or any car audio store)
* You will also need an antenna adapter (it should come with the wiring connector, but it might not.
To Install it: 1st reach under the dash and look for a silver (looks almost like an amp) box with a wired plug coming out of the bottom. These are all of the wires that go to your factory stereo. after unplugging it you can easily remove the factory stereo.
Remove the silver box, there is only 1 screw holding it in and it is directly on the bottom. After you remove it, there will be a connector on the top of it which will plug into your Wiring Connector that you should have bought earlier. The antenna wire also plugs into the top of this silver box. After all this the factory stereo should be completely un-installed (no cutting of any wires should have been required)
Next you should take off the piece of plastic that contains the center vents and cubby hole. It is easy to pry with the glove box door open. There are 2 bottom clips that are to be pryed out and the top 2 slide out the bottom. Now you can reroute the set of wires and the antenna wire to the new location of the stereo, this may be kind of tough. Take the Wiring connector you bought and the wiring connector that came with the stereo and crimp all the appropriate wires together using splice connectors and a crimping tool...they should be the same color, but check the instructions that came with the CD player and wiring connector to be sure. After that the connections should slide togethor and the CD player should turn on with the key on. The rest you should be able to figure out since it is only mounting the CD player in the new plastic piece which is very straight forward.
You will have a hole where the factory stereo used to be, stores like crutchfield and other audio shops have a piece that fits in there as a cubby hole.
All of the things needed for this project can be bought at crutchfield.com, you might be able to get all of it from stores like best buy, or walmart. A friend and I just did this last night and we bought everything from walmart, however they didnt have the piece where the old stereo used to be.
Where could you get a fuel gauge for a 1973 vw beetle?
Google/Yahoo---fuel gauge for 1973 Beetle. It will probably just be the "vibrator" part. Make sure you checked for loose wires and power to the tank.
What are the 2 prong switches on the 1974 vw super beetle master brake cylinder?
That is a pressure controlled brake light switch, when you step on the brake pedal and develop pressure in the brake fluid the brake lights are switched on.
How do change struts on 1972 super beetle?
Jack up the car. Remove the entire strut assembly - spring and shock cartridge - on both sides. Buy new shock cartridges. Take the strut assemblies and the new cartridges to a Midas Muffler shop or somewhere that's got a spring compressing machine. They'll change the cartridges for you safely, and cheaper than buying the tool you need to do this. Then go home and reinstall the strut assemblies.
I had the same problem behind your stereo there is a yellow wire whit a yellow-white wire they have to touch each other otherwise the low beams wont work.. i hope this wil work..
Relay K behind the ash tray. Check the socket also.

Check the fuse for the wipers and make sure the connections are tight. There are actually TWO red lights on the speedo that could come on. One is the Gen light and the other is the oil pressure light. If the Generater light is on, check to make sure the wires are tight on the Gen. Or It may have gone bad. If the Oil Pressure light is on, make sure the wire is connected to sensor or fuse is good. Don't drive it until your sure your getting oil pressure. Disconnect the wire at the sensor and see if it has power with the key on. If you have power then try replacing the sensor.
What is the value of a 1974 super beetle?
Somewhere between nothing and $25,000. It all depends on the car. If it's a pristine restoration, everything working, everything done with New Old Stock parts, you're looking at the higher numbers. If you can put your foot through the floor in six places, the engine has serious problems, the transmission pops out of gear, none of the lights work...the value will be a lot lower.
Almost always going to be a vacuum leak. (--BUT--The bugs are real sensitive to valve adjustment so make sure it's been done first.) Check all the vacuum hoses and make sure they're not rotting out or loose. Check to make sure any vacuum plugs are there also, they may have fallen off. Get a can of carburetor cleaner with the little red nozzle on it and spray a --little-- around the carb linkage, the hose connectors for the intake to carb body areas and down where the intake manifold and head meet, etc. Pause a few seconds in each area you check, your listening for the engine to speedup. Check for vacuum leaks first. Adjust the valves. Make sure the points have been adjusted recently. Check to make sure the plug wires are ok, and don't have any cracks or splits in the insulation that may be shorting out. Whens the last time the spark plugs have been checked or changed.
The one on the master cylinder is the brake light switch. The one on the brake pedal is for the automatic transmission, assuming that the car is automatic.

How do you set the dwell on an old school mallory points distributor?
i always had a meter with dwell on it you adj your points base and keep the gap the same
Addition to above:
Haven't messed with a points ignition in quite some time, but still have a Sun distributor machine and remember how to do it, if it's a dual point distributor the easiest way is to block one of the sets of points with a matchbook cover or thin piece of cardboard in between the points and set the dwell on the other set, then put the matchbook cover between the point set you just set the dwell on and set the dwell on the other set, then remove the matchbook cover and your done. If you're doing this on the car (as opposed to doing it on a distributor machine) you should then re-set or at least check the timing.
What kind of gasoline should a VW Beetle 2002 use?
Check the gas door and look at the sticker and see what is recommended for your car.
Do 1974 super beetles need lubrication with oil changes?
Well, there's really not any grease points on a Super Beetle that I can remember.
Maybe lube the door hinges. There's a small plastic plug on top of the hinges that can be carefully taken off with a dull knife and then just put a few drops of oil in the holes then replace the plugs. Make sure there isn't any rust or crud in there, if there is then just get a small brad nail or something and dig it out first.
You could take the cap off the rotor and put a few drops of oil on the felt in the shaft. They both should probably be done every oil change or maybe every other one to be safe.
What is the oil capacity in a 1972 beetle?
A 1972 beetle came with different sized motors, anything from 1200cc to 1600cc motors were available to the customers (although in North America most were 1600cc). All stock engines held about the same amount of engine oil. It is important to remember "NOT TO OVERFILL A VW ENGINE" as damge to oil seals and thus engine could result. To little oil will seize the engine. Keep the oil level between the marks on the dip stick. Usually I'll put in 2.5 litres or 5.3 US pints per engine. If you're in doubt, add 2 litres or 2 US quarts (4 US pints), check the dip stick, add extra oil until the oil level is between the two marks on the dip stick. Run the engine for while, and turn it off. After engine has cooled down, recheck oil level on the dip stick (make sure dip stick is all the way down and clean each time). Oil level must be between the marks. On the VW, between the top and bottom marks on the dip stick is aboout one litre or one US quart, which means that if you're just below the 'ADD' mark, one litre or one US quart will put you just below the full mark.
If your engine has been modified, i.e. an external oil cooler added, or a larger oil sump added, then more engine oil may be required. Check with manufacturer for specs in additional engine oil required.
NOTE. it is aways a good idea to check engine oil levels each morning before starting the engine. Air cooled engines tend to expand and contract more than water cooled engines, therefore more prone to oil leakage. Having a VW engine, without some oil seepage over time, is indeed a pleasure.
I am a VW master registered technician with over 40 years of experience. In all old style VW beetle engines that haven't been modified 3 us quarts is the norm.
How do you lower a 1964 VW bug?
The rear tortion bars have different sizes of spline, inboard or outboard, so you turn the trailing arm on the tortion bar until you reach the desired height eg. down 1 large, too high,up one small till you find a combo that works
The front main beam can be replaced with an adjustable one.
I have heard you can grind the welds off the tubes, turn them and reweld, but check that, because I've never done it
Purchase dropped spindles for the front
