How do you replace the water pump on a 1990 Pontiac Le Mans?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Hey Connie==Get a manual from a parts store on your car and it will tell you how. You may need to get a manual from MOTORLIT.COM. Good luck Joe

First buy a new thermostat, water pump and timing belt. Unsnap timing belt cover and remove top outside portion. Take off top belt pulley which is actually the power steering pump pulley. Note aligning mark on top timing belt pulley which matches a notch in the back of the timing belt cover. Also notice the bottom belt pulley has a notch which aligns with a protruding point on the belt cover next to the bolt where the back cover is attached. Remove the bottom belt pulley (not for the timing belt but the accessories) Try to align the top timing belt pulley which will align the notch on the accessory pulley before removing the pulley. Once the top pulley is removed you can remove the timing belt being careful to not move either base where the pulleys were attached which would mess up the timing. Remove the power steering pump (turn small nut on end of pipe into pump housing) and remove hose from other pump line. Now you can move the cover enough to remove the water line housing containing the thermostat. This should be replaced now since it is so much trouble to replace separately that everything should be done at the same time. The thermostat gasket has a slot to fit over both sides of the metal flange. The water pump is held by 3 Allen wrench bolts (metric good luck) and is also the timing belt tensioner. Install new pump and timing belt making sure marks and notches are correct and belt is tight enough using the turning of the water pump. Reassemble everything else.

Why do windowscreen wiper on the drivers side have a spoiler?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The spoilers on wiper blades are designed to create down-pressure on the wiper blade. Many conventional wipers can tend to lift up off the glass at higher speeds which decreases their performance. The spoiler actually uses the wind to increase performance.

What are the wiper blade sizes on a 2004 Honda Pilot?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The 2004 Honda Pilot takes a 24" drivers side, 21" passenger side and a fairly specialized 14" rear wiper that is difficult to find in the stores. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are currently over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only - be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.

How do you change the rear wiper on a 2005 Sienna?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

EASY TO DO YOURSELF

1. Pop off end cap at BASE of wiper arm.

2. Remove nut with 10mm wrench or ratchet.

3. Remove whole arm. Might have to rotate counter clockwise to

work it off.

4. Fold wiper blade assembly all the way back and it just slides out at angle.

5. Set new blade assembly in and reassemble arm and cap

They should have these instructions in the dealer part bag because I could

have broken the wiper arm. Luckily I googled this question after I became frustrated on how to remove the old one. I attempted to change the rear wiper on my 2005 Sienna and although I now understand how to go about this, I was not successful in completing it. Here are the steps to follow, perhaps this will be helpful: 1. You will notice that the rear wiper arm does not pull away from the glass the way the front arms do. That is because of the plastic protective cap tat covers the bolt and nut on which the arm swings. You need to start by removing the cap. Spread the sides of the cap and slide and lift it away from the glass to remove it. 2. Once the cap is removed the whole arm will swing out away from the glass. The wiper will detach from the fixed portion of the arm in a similar fashion to the front wipers - it unhooks easily. Be sure to note which end of it faces what direction; it can only be replaced one way. 3. You will notice that the wiper frame (not sure if this is correct nomenclature, but lets go with it) is not your standard Canadian Tire replaceable wiper. Because of this, you need to replace the actual wiper blade (the rubber part separate from the frame). If you have purchased a replacement wiper including the frame and the blade, you will need to separate the new blade from the new wiper frame and use it to replace to old wiper blade. This probably involves a pair of pliers, and some careful sliding and pulling of the blade through the wiper frame. I was unsuccessful at separating the new wiper blade from its frame in step 3 (the new blade was destroyed in the process), so I ended up putting my old wiper blade back on the wiper frame and replacing it on the van. I think I'll have the thing changed by the pros when I next service the vehicle. Nevertheless, perhaps this information will be useful to someone more adept at this type of thing.

How do you change the wipers on a 2007 Impala?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The 2007 Chevrolet Impala has hook-end wiper arms. See the Sources and Related Links section below for installation videos and correct attachment/length wiper blade sizes. Also, if you purchase the replacement blades first and there will be additional instructions/illustrations on the replacement packages. Locate and press the tab or button where the wiper blade is inserted into the hook of the wiper arm and pull wiper blade out of hook. You may have to rotate and flex the blade to make enough clearance for the hook to pass through. Very simple.

How do you fix windshield wipers on an 04 Avalanche that won't shut off?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Change the wiper motor. There is a cam on the output of the wiper gearbox ( part of the motor)

that shuts off the wipers when they reach the parked position. Yours is worn, never opens the internal switch, and the wipers just keep going.

To just make them stop, unplug the electrical connection on the wiper motor. The motor is on the firewall, above the engine, and not too far from the brake fluid reservoir. It's mostly aluminum colored, and about the size of a burrito. Probably four wires on the plug.

Where is the fuse or relay for the winshild wipers in a 91 legacy wagon?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The fuse for the front windshield wipers should be located under the dash on the drivers side, in the fuse panel just in front of the door. Looking at my 1991 Subaru factory manual, I don't see a relay that is specific to the front windshield wipers. The back windshield wiper has a relay that is on top of the right rear wheel well, just behind the right rear speaker. Here's some help with diagnosing your windshield wiper issues... If the windshield wipers do not operate... A) in all positions: 1) Blown M/B or F/B fuse 2) Wiper switch 3) Wiper Motor 4) Wiper Link 5) Improper grounding 6) Open wiring harness or poor terminal connections B) in INT position: 1) Wiper switch 2) Intermitent unit (built into wiper switch) 3) Open wiring harness or poor terminal connections C) in Low or High positions: 1) Wiper switch 2) Open wiring harness or poor terminal connections D) in Mist mode: 1) Wiper Switch 2) Open wiring harness or poor terminal connections

How do you adjust the wiper arm on a 1991 Montero This is in regards to the position of the blade on the windshield?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The wiper arm should have a removable cap at the lowest pivot point where the arm meets the firewall/hood level. With the cap removed there should be a 10-12mm nut exposed that requires loosening and removal to slip the arm off the grooved spindle and re-mount to the readjusted/desired coverage area. Re-tightened once adjusted to to avoid slippage while in operation.

How do you replace windshield wiper inserts for 2005 Mercedes e320?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I am assuming that "inserts" mean "refills" (only the rubber blade, not the blade and frame which is commonly called "wiper blade"). I will recommend however, that you consider replacing the entire wiper blade - especially in colder climate with ice and snow - because the frame does go through a lot of use and abuse and for small difference in price, you're best off replacing the entire wiper blade.

That said, whether you replace the inserts with refills or you replace the entire blade, the 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320 has 26" front wipers.

  • Step 1 is to be sure you get the right replacements.

Note, be sure to always look up your vehicle make, model and year in the application guide book at the store, or now-a-days you can Google 'lookup wiper size'.

  • Step 2: As far as installation, replacing the entire wiper blade will be much more simple than replacing just the inserts/refills. In either case, the replacements will come with step-by-step, illustrated instructions.

How do you replace the windshield wiper motor on a 1989 Aerostar van?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

[1] Remove the windshield wiper arms from their shafts. You must first lift the arms off of the windshield so they lock in the upright position. There is a small tab on the side of the arm where it fits onto the shaft. This tab is part of a lever that locks the arm onto the shaft. Pull the tab away from the shaft and pull the arm off of the shaft.

[2] Remove the plastic cowl below the windshield that fits around the wiper arm shafts by removing the 11 small plastic clips that hold it in place. Sliding a flat bladed screwdriver underneath the cowl next to each clip and prying upward worked well. It appears the clips are meant to be replaced with new ones each time they are removed. The cowl is plastic, usually brittle, so be careful not to break it.

[3] Use a male Torx bit, T-30, to remove the two screws that hold each of the wiper shafts in place. Allow the linkage to drop down allowing access to the motor arm stud.

[4] Locate where the wiper linkage is attached to the motor arm stud. Pry up on the center of the metal retaining clip and push it sideways off of the stud. Remove the link from the stud on the motor arm.

[5] Remove three nuts holding the wiper motor to the cowl which will allow it to drop lower into the engine compartment.

[6] Disconnect the electrical wiring connectors and work the motor out from above the engine.

Reverse procedure to install.
