Why are the states represented by stars and does the white on the flag stand for the mothers of the soldiers who died in the wars?

I can't say why stars in particular were chosen, but the stripes on the flag represent the 13 original states. The original idea was to add both a star and a stripe for each state, but it soon became clear that the flag would become unwieldy. So, sometime after the fifteenth state or so, the number of stripes was fixed at 13. On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress passed the Flag Act. The act established that the flag of the United States of America would be composed of 13 stripes, alternating red and white, with a union of 13 stars, white in a blue field, to denote a new constellation. The white on the flag represents purity.

The Flag Code is a set of advisory instructions, and while it is part of federal law, it is not illegal to go against it. There are no penalties for failure to comply with it, and indeed, that would be unconstitutional. In the context of the Flag Code itself, no other flag should be flown above or at the same height as the US flag (Texas is often wrongly stated as an exception to this).

What's the value of an American flag flown over ground zero then flown in Iraq with certificates?

Priceless... that's history... why would you want to sell it?! Keep it for your kids and their kids... and their kids after that!

---------------------------------------

I partially agree with that... i think it all depends on the demand for it, how patriotic the buyer is, and how much sentimental value is placed on it by the owner... I mean a Canadian or even an American could care less about a flag that was flown and not spend a dime, while a CEO of a Japanese company could find it worth 10,000$... idk im bored lets go to KFC
