Magic Jack is not really a viable or safe alternative and if there is a problem with the service Magic Jack wasn't designed to trouble shoot the issue or contact the facility for you and they don't provide the proper security.

I disagree. They are basically charging you to rent a local phone number and still pay what ever service provider the jail uses. For example, I pay $25 a month to use the number cons call home, the I turn around a pay global tel-link $25. This is ridiculous. I bought a Magic Jack $40 and put $25 on my prepaid global tel-link account. The magic jack phone service is $19.95 a year and is included when you first buy it. It is $19.95 a year after your first year of service. The only problem with magic jack, some time the reception is lousy. This is my fix. I told him when he calls let it ring and then hang up. I then unplug the magic jack and then plug it back in where it will automatically run the software again.

I have just never heard of the getcconectededus and conscallhome does not charge $19.00 for setup fee. You basically get what you pay for, if it is too cheap and seems to good to be true, it probably is....and you are on you own, not worth risk.

Although this person thinks the following is a better solution i would be hesitant. Remember if it isn't regulated, if they can't provide a secure service it just isn't worth the risk. I actually have a better solution for getting phone calls from loved ones incarcerated out of state. Conscallhome is just another company taking advantage of people spending a lot of money on calls. They charge you a $19.99 non refundable fee for basically nothing as there are other companies you can go through for the same thing without paying this fee such as getconnectedus.com. They also go by 15 minute increments instead of the standard 30 minutes. They take up to 2 months to give you a refund when requested when all others will refund in up to 7 to 10 days. So please just be aware through my experience I went through getconnectedus & got phone calls in Washington from my son in Montana and paid about $5.20 total for a 30 min. call vs $32.00 without getconnectedus & I only had to pay a $5.00 fee vs $19.99 with conscallhome.
