The Sable Island Ponies were not used for coal mining. The first of these horses are thought to have been survivors of shipwrecks, or that they were sent there for breeding and pasture. Later, the horses that the British seized from the Acadians were purchased and transported there in 1760. The only group of Sable Island Ponies ever taken from the island now live in Shubenacadie Wildlife Park on the mainland of Nova Scotia.

Most ponies that were used for coal mining were Shetland Ponies, which are smaller than the Sable Island Ponies.

You THINK you might be into S & M? Who would know better than you? At any rate, whatever floats your boat, man.... Only you can determine that, though. So, let's say you are into all of that. Fine. I would say as long as you aren't 13 or something, no big deal. If you are very young, I would kind of tap the brakes a bit, and not try to catagorize yourself yet. As long as you are not killing anybody, and the acts you engage in are consentual, who can say anything about it? Understand that your parents may not share the same feelings about the situation as you do. And that's OK. They have a right to have an opinion, too. Don't try to convince them to think like you, it won't happen. Tell them that this is who you are. Just as they chose a heterosexual relationship, you have the right to make your own choice. Give them time to adjust, and keep the level of communication open. They will eventually come around to at least respecting your lifestyle. They may never agree with it, but do they really have to? Coral mining is where you go deep down into the coral to find special nutrients which are very valuble. Miners rip apart the coral to get deep into the undergrowth and search for nutrients. As they go into the coral, whilst ripping it apart, it is killing the quantity of the coral. Therefore this is a major threat.

OIl Sands (called Tar sands by its detractors) is made up of natural deposits of sand, clay and bitumen ( this is a heavy black viscous oil) and are mined using strip mining in open pit mines or by thermal extraction using steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology. The two systems are similar except that the liberation of the oil from the sand matrix occurs on the surface with the excavation methods and underground with SAGD.

The oil is purified of all dirt and water and then upgraded on site or at a separate upgrader site. In the case of the distant upgrader, the bitumen is diluted with a conventional light oil to make it flow more easily.They generate oil similar to pumped oil but extracting the oil is more complex. er

Upgrading is done by breaking the oil molecules eith by thermal methods or by catalytic cracking. The broken molecules are still long enough to be classified as oil although some become light petroleum gases. The oil molecules are separated from each other by boilling points into various types of oil and further treated like oil from any conventional source.

Such mining is called open cast mining. deep mining involves sinking a vertical shaft down to the rock layer containing minerals, making a horizontal tunnel following the mineral layer, extracting the minerals by digging done by machines and miners, bringing the loose rock from the mine and piling it up on waste heaps on the surface and transporting the minerals. deep mining is more dangerous than open cast as miners work underground while in open cast workers work on the surface.

The Hard Rock Mining Company has just completed the first year of operations at its new strip mine, the Lone-some Doe. Hard Rock spent $10 million for the land and $20 million in preparing the site for mining operations.The mine is expected to operate for 20 years. Hard Rock is subject to environmental statutes requiring it to re-store the Lonesome Doe mine site on completion of mining operations. Based on its experience and industry data, as well as current technology, Hard Rock forecasts that restoration will cost about $10 million when it is undertaken. Of those costs, about $4 million is for restoring the top soil that was removed in preparing the site for mining operations (prior to opening the mine); the rest is directly proportional to the depth of the mine, which in turn is directly proportional to the amount of ore extracted.

Strip Mining can easily destory their natural habitat and even form cave in under the soil ---- Strip mining removes the habitat from many types of animals. During it's operation, a strip mine is not a very animal-friendly place. HOWEVER, after the mine is closed, if the mine owners replace the top soil and other parts of the geologic environment that they displaced, it will soon return to it's normal state and be a perfectly good animal habitat.

Because u get lots of injuries and you get quite ill (arthritis, coughing fits and allergies are common) and many people die :(

Yes, there is pollution from mining in Asia. There is the "standard" problem with the burning of fossil fuels like gas and diesel to recover ore, and with coal to produce the electricity used in conjunction with mining. The processing of the material leaves a very large pollution footprint, and it's far larger than the mining operations. China in particular has problems. It has burst onto the world metal markets in the last couple of decades, and the Chinese trash their environment to capture an increasingly larger market share.
