How did you S economic prosperity lead it to pursue a policy of imperialism?
As our wealth and influence increased, so did our patriotism. Also, at this point, the global scene was very bleak economically and tensions were high world-wide. Our sense of pride was telling us that if we were becoming more successful and everyone else wasn't, then we must be doing something right that others weren't. This mindset led the U.S. to believe that we needed to help others see that our system was the best one out there. (Mind you I'm not saying that this choice was right or wrong.) But this frame of mind has led us into the position where we sit today: The Global Police Force. And now that we are in it people expect us to stay there. It is a political thorn bush to get out of, and while we have a ton of problems within our own borders, there are a million problems that the world expects us to solve, all because we got caught up in our post-World War II patriotism. I'm not bashing America, I love my country, I just think we went a little over-board.

Why is ground water is frequently preferable to surface water as a source of water supply?
Because surface water has all the impurities and refuse/waste from animals and other pollutants. These are removed by filtering through the soil and rock formations below ground. The further down you go, the cleaner the water becomes.
Waste in sewage is filtered in a similar way at treatment plants. They use sand beds to remove the majority of pollutants.

How much pollution is in LA compared to Mexico City?
It would depend on time of the year and area, as both Los Angeles and Mexico City are big urban conglomerates where air pollution to vary according to specific areas within the city. Nowadays, the Air Quality Index (or PM10) measures particles suspended in the air; the higher the value the more polluted it becomes.
For May 11th 2005, air pollution in Los Angeles is moderate, with a maximum Air Quality Index of 89 (Riverside) and a minimum of 59 (San Bernardino). Both numbers would qualify as "Air quality is acceptable; however, for some pollutants there may be a moderate health concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution."
Same measurements for Mexico are 112 (Camarones) and 78 (Pedregal). It seems Camarones, to the northwest of the city, is the most polluted, whereas that 112 means "Members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The general public is not likely to be affected."

What are some negative impact of falling water tables?
No water. Calf. Is going through this now. Towns are running out of water. Some people only have water because it is getting to them in plastic bottles. All people are under state water regulations. Every town and city has to lower usuage by 25% which means the the people of the area have designated watering days and hours. Fines will be given for people who waste water. Many farms are not getting water and that means that the crop is not getting planted, people are loosing jobs who work on the crops, and food prices are going up. Some crops are also getting pulled out and replaced with a new crop. Many recreational activities are also hurting. No snow means the lodges are closing and boating, fishing, and lake activities are either gone or can't be used. Restraunts are closing and no longer give water at the table. Everyone is impacted when there is no water.
