Hellenistic comes from Hellas a.k.a Greece. Historians around the world believe that when Alexander with the other greek cities went against the Persians and the other countries in the east, he brought their advanced greek civilization, culture and language. This is also the reason that the new testimony was written in greek. This is why those kingdoms were called Hellenistic as well as the whole era.

Their fecundity was such that, even with constant wars, their population exceeded to ability of limited land to support them. So the cities periodically packed the surplus on a ship and sent them off to seize land around the Mediterranean and Black Seas and establish their own city-state. As a result, with over 2,000 city-states spread through southern Europe, Greek culture was spread too. The names of cities today attest to this (eg Tri-polis = 3 cities = Tripoli; Neo-polis = new city = Naples

Ancient Greek Culture inspired MOSTLY EVERY standard in the modern Western World. It contributes to our daily standards in many Western nations, or countries that follow an Americanized path of life.
