The West German economy was not adversely affected- the automobile industry was busily churning out Volkswagens, Mercedes-Benz autos and some other makes as the now-extinct Maico ( not the hearing aid manufacturer). There were some problems with firms originally in East Berlin or East Germany proper- such as many Camera companies on the East side of the Wall. They were very much in business, but some advertising boycotts existed. the Exa, Exakta, and other Zeiss( Lines East) products were very much in evidence. there may have been maintenance loopholes- here for Camera parts, not gun parts- that permitted Cameras and gear (lenses, for example) to cross over from Dresden to West Berlin. so it went.
