Why did the Sumerians want to appease the God?

In much the same way that modern Christians try to please their God, the Sumerians pleased their gods in order to bring good fortune upon themselves. They accepted the priests as their religious leaders because they were intermediaries between the people and the gods.

What do Christians believe about the end of the universe?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

To Christians the end of the world prophecy is judgment day. Christ returns, the devil is finally defeated and has no more hold on humans. The wicked are punished, the faithful rewarded with eternal bodies and eternal life. The faithful will reside with Christ and even the memory of sadness will be wiped from their minds.

And we really don't belive in the end of the world... it kind of goes like, the end of the world will come when Jesus/God comes to take us away.

Christians believe it will start with the Rapture

A clue that the End of the world is coming, is one world religion. One world currency. It's sorta getting to one world currency..That's a big hint.

1 Thessalonians 4:17-5:5 Next, all of us who are still alive will be taken up into the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the sky. From that time on we will all be with the Lord forever. Encourage each other with these words.

I don't need to write you about the time or date when all this will happen You surely know the Lord's return wll be as a thief coming at night. People will think they are safe and secure. But destruction will suddenly strike them like the pains of a womean about to give birth. And they won't escape. But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.

Matthew 24:29 Right After those days of suffering, The sun will become dark, and the moon will no longer shine. The stars will fall, and the powers in the sky will be shaken. Then a sign will appear in the sky. And there will be the Son of Man. All nations on earth will weep when they see the Son of Man coming on the cloud of heaven with power and great glory. At the sound of a loud trumpet, he will send his angels to bring his chosen ones together from all over the earth.

(I think this is talking about his second returning)

Revelations 14:9-12

A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: "If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, 10he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name." This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God's commandments and remain faithful to Jesus.

Throughout the book of Revelations it talks about judgments, and according to the angel, only people with the mark of the beast (Antichrist) will get this judgments.

Matthew 24:36-44 No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.

Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

If the Lord says its gonna happen in a blink of an eye, (when no one is expecting it..everyone's expecting December 2012, i think hes gonna shock us all, (as he said he would) and come BEFORE December 2012. Maybe 2011. He also said it would be like the days of Noah...Well....what do you think? Turn on the news. Yep.

Read the book of Revelations

The movie "Left Behind" is also a good idea of what Christians think...

There is never a specific date given, but there are signs, and specific events in specific order given. One must know the signs and their specific order and watch .... Here is some key information to understand

Christ told you of the events which lead to the end of this 2nd of 3 earth iterations (2nd Peter 3). He expressed those in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21, to his Apostles

Careful, because there are some things in that prophecy which were translated into the English which one must know or else you will miss the boat entirely

  1. Nation as translated into the English is based upon the Greek word Ethnos which is where the English word Ethnic comes from, its better translated Ethnic instead of Nation
  2. Famine refers to Amos 8:11
  3. Troubles is better translated Sedition
  4. Luke best defines the Earth quakes as Megas Sizemos (Mega Earthquakes), 8 and greater

You must understand the generation of the fig, given by Christ in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 and how that relates to Jeremiah 24 (prophecy which occurred in 1947-48), the final generation of mankind.

You must understand the time limits of a generation (Genesis 6:3 and Psalm 90:10), 120 or 70 or 80 years.

These are all signs, not specific times and dates. The end of this 2nd iteration of earth will end when these signs and prophecies can be observed. The clock started its countdown when the State of Israel came into existence ( Q4-1947 to Q1-1948).

Knowing the timing of a generation, your red letter dates are (2018, 2028 and 2068). This does not mean on those days marked by mans years, these specific things will happen, it only means generations are marked by those dates, one must still observe the signs given, as there is no exact date and time given, only signs and a Generation are given.

At this moment in time, you are building to the prophecy of Daniel 8 (Persia - Iran is rising to power).

You can observe the signs that Christ warned of

1) Ethnic fighting (gender, race, doctoral belief, wealth, sexual preference, etc.)

2) Famine as defined by Amos 8:11 is occurring as people of the world accept philosopha doctrine and dialectics and reject our Fathers word

3) Troubles ... Sedition ... Rolling mobs in the streets? Look a France and Greece and America

4) Megas earth quakes ... (Since 1948) there were about 4-5 per decade until the 1980s, now there are teens per decade and increasing in occurrence and destruction.

5) You have Persia (Iran) on the rise ... Daniel 8

So you have your signs and they are occurring just as they are written.

You have your final generation and it is getting along in years

You have your red letter dates based upon that final generation

You have every thing you need to observe the end of this 2nd earth iteration

Will there be a zombie apocalypse.... No

Will it end in an all out war .... Nope as Daniel 11 states Anti-Christ comes in peaceful and Revelation 13 states he uses miracles to deceive the people.

Will the end be immediate .... No as it takes place during a Generation of either 70, 80 or 120 years.

What was the final battle?

The final battle between good and evil, Christ and His followers and the Anti-Christ and his followers is called the Battle of Armageddon. This battle will happen according the book of the Revelation of the Apostle of John in the Bible, in the valley of Megiddo in the land of Israel at the end of the seven year Tribulation.

When the Anti-Christ and his followers will take their stand against Jesus Christ and His followers. Of course Christ and His follower will have the victory!

Where are the 3 kings from?

The song says that they're from the Orient (Asia), but the Bible says only that they're from "the east", which I guess would have to be somewhere in Asia if speaking with respect to the Middle East.

BTW, the Bible states that they brought three gifts to Jesus, gold, frankincense and myrrh, but it gives no other clue regarding how many of the wise men there were. It became popular to think of there being three wise men because of the number of gifts, but we really have no idea how many there were.

How many prophecies about Jesus didn't come true?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The seven annual Holy Day feasts of God picture His plan, concluding with the Last Great Day, Judgment Day.

The first three "spring harvest" feasts have been and are currently being fulfilled until Jesus Christ returns. They are the Passover [Jesus' crucifixion], the Days of Unleavened Bread [the closed and sealed scriptures, the Bread of Life, opened to end time understanding by the "wise"; those who fear God - [Dan.12:10/Prov.9:10] through faith in Christ]; and Pentecost [the ongoing availability of the Holy Spirit to all who believe].

The last four annual Holy Day feasts of God that come at the time of the more abundant "fall harvest" every year, haven't been fulfilled yet.

The Feast of Trumpets: Jesus' return. Christ will return at the sounding of the "last trump."

The Day of Atonement: The sins of the world laid upon the head of Satan by Jesus at His return, and his banishment for a thousand years. [see: Rev.20:1-3)

The Feast of Tabernacles: The Kingdom of God ruling over the mortal nations on earth for a thousand years, before man's mortality is changed to immortality at its conclusion.

The Last Great Day: Judgment Day. All men's lives are assessed according to the works they did, measured against the books of the Bible, which will be opened for reference. [see: Rev.20:11-15 and John 12:48]

Based on these seven commanded annual Holy Day feasts of God recorded in the Bible: only three out of the seven main prophecies of God's plan have been fulfilled so far.

That means, most of them haven't happened yet.

Answer to the question as worded:While some New Testament prophecy is yet to be fulfilled, according to scripture, ALL the Old Testament prophecies about Jesus "came true."

Luke 18:31 - Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished."

Luke 21:22 - "For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled."

John 19:28 - After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst!"

Acts 3:18 - "But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled."

What is the fulfillment of Isaiah 42 5-7?

Asked by Wiki User

Answer

A focus of dispute between Jews and Christians lies in a series of verses known as the Servant Songs (Isaiah 42:1-4, 49:1-6,50:4-11, 52:13-53:12). In these passages, God promises to choose a servant who will teach his true way to the nations. In some verses, the servant appears to be a person, in others a group, in some a real figure and in others imaginary. The only time the 'servant' is named, the reference is to Israel. It is even possible that Second Isaiah is, in places, putting himself up as the servant. However, Christians have seen the Servant Songs as prophecies of Jesus.

Is Judgment Day real?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

yes

ANOTHER ANSWER:

"Judgment Day" is one of those terms [like "apocalypse"] that few people understand, that, thanks to modern Hollywood entertainment, teamed with false religious and secular teaching, conjures up images of lots of death, destruction and other pyrotechnic displays.

Just as "apocalypse," for instance doesn't mean "a giant asteroid is on course to destroy planet earth" [apocalypse has no more sinister meaning than: "the REVEALING"]… neither is the REAL "Judgment Day" revealed in the Bible what most people think - as vague as this world's teachings are about it is.

Everyone's idea about it is different.

"Judgment Day" is the LAST PHASE of GOD'S PLAN for His creation… a plan that very few people know and understand, thanks to the lying, deceptive god man chose to worship and obey in the beginning [see Gen.3], the Great Dragon, Satan the Devil [Rev.12:9].

The annual outline for His Plan is found in the 23rd chapter of the book of Leviticus, which few people read… much less grasp what it's saying.

In Leviticus 23, the repetitive "seven yearly phases" of God's Plan [which if believed, understood and observed each year by God's servants would keep them in remembrance of it] follows a pattern of the annual "crop-growing seasons;" the early "spring harvest" and the more abundant "fall harvest" at the end, or the last days, of the year:

The first three Spring Harvest Phases:

Phase One: The Passover [the shedding of God's Blood for the Salvation of the world and mankind].

Phase Two: The Days of Unleavened Bread [the opening of the Truth of God's inspired Word to the hearts and minds of those who "believe" and "trust" {have Faith} in what it says].

Phase Three: Pentecost [the conception of a Child of God within a human spirit with the miracle Seed of God's Holy Spirit, made available to anyone of any and all nations where the Faith of Abraham exists - see Gal.3:7]

The last four Fall Harvest Phases:

Phase Four: The Feast of Trumpets [the seven"trumpet plagues" of the book of Revelation are counted down for those called servants of God who are able to see it in this "narrative parable" that Christ gave to John for God's servants to know and understand what's soon coming upon planet earth and mankind - see Rev.1:1-3. Jesus Christ returns at "the sounding of the LAST TRUMPET" - see Matt.24:31; I Thess.4:16; I Cor.15:52; Rev.11:15-18. The Feast of Trumpets begins as the FIRST PART in the Last Days of God's Plan on the Day God has assigned to it in Leviticus 23: the Day of the LORD; the Day when Jesus Christ returns to earth to establish His Kingdom upon it, along with Justice and Equity - Isa.9:6-7].

Phase Five: The Day of Atonement [on that Day, Satan will be captured and bound for a thousand years… unable to persuade and deceive the nations, hearts, and minds {spirits} of men, as Christ and His Immortal Chosen Servants {during this present time of this early spring harvest} run things and rule on planet earth. On that Day after Christ returns, He will "lay the sins of the world" that He has borne for man, during this early spring harvest time dispensation - lay them"upon the head of him whose sins they REALLY ARE - SATAN THE DEVIL!" See Lev.16]

Phase Six: The Feast of Tabernacles [thethousand-year "Sabbath Day" rule of the Kingdom of God on earth -- Rev.20:1-6!]

PHASE SEVEN: JUDGMENT DAY [The LAST GREAT DAY OF THE FEAST {of Tabernacles}; of the Thousand Year Rule of Christ on earth. Judgment Day is the Day of "assessment." The Day when the experiences of all men's lives, saved in the memory banks of their spirits, will be reviewed and"rewarded" accordingly. The recorded Books of the Bible will be laid open… the most BESTSELLING BOOK THROUGHOUT HISTORY… and everyone who has ever lived and died will be MEASURED against what is written in those books; AGAINST THE THINGS THEY'D DONE IN THEIR LIVES! - John 12:48-48; Rev.20:11-15; see also Dan.7:10]:

"'See, I AM COMING SOON, and MY REWARD IS WITH ME, to REPAY ALL according to their deeds." (Rev.22:12 NLT New Living Translation)

Judgment Day is indeed real. It's slated for the LAST GREAT DAY of God's Plan for the majority of mankind. But it's also GOING ON RIGHT NOW for the Household of God here on earth:

"For the time is come that JUDGMENT MUST BEGIN AT THE HOUSE OF GOD: and IF IT BEGIN FIRST AT US, what shall the end be of them that OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL [good news] OF GOD?" (I Peter 4:17)

For those whom God is calling now… those who should know, understand and be conforming to God's Truth through OBEDIENCE to it… God's Judgment is much more severe and His punishment all the more harsh:

"Do not be eager, my brethren, for many among you to become teachers [leaders of the church]; for you know that WE TEACHERS SHALL UNDERGO SEVERER JUDGMENT. For we often stumble and fall, ALL OF US. If there is any one who never stumbles in speech, that man has reached maturity of character and is able to curb his whole nature." (James 3:1-2 NLT)

But most people think God's Judgment will cause the vast majority of mankind who have never heard… much less grasped the Truth of His Word or received His Holy Spirit within them… will also automatically fall under His wrath. But that's not what the Scriptures reveal about Judgment Day, the Last Great Day of God's Plan.

Jesus Christ, the MAN, KEPT and OBSERVED THE HOLY DAYS THAT HE GAVE TO MOSES TO RECORD IN LEVITICUS 23 FOR HIS SERVANTS TODAY. And Jesus has THIS to say to mankind as a glimpse into what that Day will be like for the vast majority of mankind who had never been called by God during the Early Spring Harvest, but who shall appear before His throne in the Great Fall Harvest:

"IN THE LAST DAY, that GREAT DAY OF THE FEAST [the EIGHTH DAY of the Feast of Tabernacles that pictures JUDGMENT DAY], JESUS STOOD and CRIED, saying, IF ANY MAN THIRST, LET HIM COME UNTO ME, and drink. HE THAT BELIEVETH ON ME, AS THE SCRIPTURES HATH SAID [believes in Him according to the Scriptures… not as so many false denominations of "Christianity" teach], OUT OF HIS BELLY SHALL FLOW RIVERS OF LIVING WATER. (But this spake He of the {Holy} Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given: because that Jesus was not yet Glorified.)" (John 7:37-39)

Judgment Day IS REAL. It's going on, now, for those whom God is presently calling out of the world to rule with Him in the world to come. And it waits for those on that Last Day of God's Plan who never heard or knew about it.

"And since it is reserved for ALL MANKIND ONCE TO DIE, and afterwards TO BE JUDGED; so the Christ also, having been once offered in Sacrifice in order that He might BEAR THE SINS OF MANY, WILL APPEAR A SECOND TIME, separated from sin [by the Day of Atonement], TO THOSE WHO ARE EAGERLY EXPECTING HIM, to MAKE THEIR SALVATION COMPLETE." (Heb.9:27-28 NLT)

"Was not Eʹsau the brother of Jacob?" declares Jehovah. 'But I loved Jacob,  and Eʹsau I hated"' (Malachi 1:2,3) In the Scriptures the word "hate" has several different meaning, intense hostility, strong dislike or to love to a lesser degree. (Pr 6:16-19; De 16:22; Isa 61:8; Zec 8:17; Mal 2:16;

Ge 29:31, 33; De 21:15, 16) That God's hatred for Esau was justified as Esau showed a lack of appreciation for spiritual things. He 'despised his birthright' and therefore the divine privilege that had been made to his grandfather Abraham. (Ge 25:32-34) He also showed a murderous spirit towards his brother Jacob. 27:41-43; Heb 12:14-16)

What was the important theme in the prophetic message of Amos?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are several themes in Amos:

Everyone answers to God -- Amos pronounced judgement on Israel and Judah and all the surrounding nations. God is in control of all nations.

Complacency -- With comfort and luxury comes self sufficiency and a false sense of security. Remember all things come from God everything is meaningless without Him.

Oppressing the poor -- The wealthy and powerful had become prosperous and greedy and unfair. God was weary of greed and would not tolerate injustice.

Superficial religion -- Although people had abandoned real faith in God they still pretended to be religious. God wants simple trust in Him not showy external actions.

What is the historical critical method of biblical interpretation?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Well, if by "historical" you mean to include the earliest"historical" method of Biblical interpretation, there is the view of Bible character "Joseph" (c. 1900 B.C.E. to c. 1600 B.C.E.) expressed at Genesis chapter 40, verse 8. There Joseph, in very early history, is quoted as saying that for some types of 'Biblical' material "interpretations belong to God"; not humans.

That can be combined with how elsewhere in the Bible it has been indicated that God is the one who chooses persons through whom revelations of true interpretation will come in cases where the revelation comes through humans instead of directly from God. For example, the Bible book of Daniel, at chapter 2, verse 19 refers to God as revealing a particular "secret" of interpretation directly to the prophet Daniel in "a night vision", or special dream. (The historical period of the prophet Daniel is c. 618 to 536 B.C.E..)

So the above would be examples of some of the earliesthistory methodology behind some kinds of Biblical interpretation -- particularly interpretations of a prophetic nature.

The question for us observers, of course, would be how could an outside third party know as genuine versus spurious the claims of an individual who says they have received such a revelation from God of correct interpretation? The Bible gives some clues for that, as well, but I guess that is beyond the scope of this present question and might become the subject of a different question at wiki.answers.com.

Beyond the prophetic variety of Biblical interpretation, there is also the doctrinal and faith-oriented variety of Biblical interpretation. For this it might be recommended to consider what the Apostle Paul said (in c. 61 C.E.) as to defining faith itself. His words on this are recorded at Hebrews 11:1 as: "Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld." Note how much this definition contrasts with the 'blind faith' that is preached in many religions in modern times. The apostle Paul was not only a lawyer by past profession, a person valuing accuracy, but he was also an early disciple during the period when Christianity was still only in its "original" form (from which there has since been much deviation over the millennia that followed). So this method described by the Apostle Paul represents another early "historical" method of interpreting Biblical information, particularly of the faith-type category.

To explicate that a little further, the Apostle Paul's method of interpretation in the faith aspects of Biblical knowledge was -- basically and curiously -- logic. He was clear in saying that faith is supposed to be based upon "evident" demonstration (i.e., actual evidence) of realities though not beheld. In other words, interpretations on which to base faith are meant to come from the logical extrapolation of actual evidence in order to try to perceive/interpret realities that are not yet actually observed or directly observable. That sounds to me like some Biblical interpretation can thus be served even by what was articulated in the basic syllogism theory of Aristotelian logic, which centres around the idea of building conclusions ("interpretations") by using evidently demonstrable premises that follow sound rules of reason in the way they're all put together to form a conclusion. It's really remarkably compatible with the Apostle Paul's definition of "faith", even though this might be unsavoury to some who follow a "blind faith" kind of interpretation paradigm that is not actually Biblical as it turns out upon careful reading of the Bible.

What kind of prophecies is Isaiah noted for concerning Christ?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Seven centuries before Jesus' birth, Isaiah prophesied about him: "There has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder." (Isaiah 9:6) Why did Isaiah indicate that Jesus' birth and subsequent role would be so significant? Because Jesus would become a mighty ruler. He would be called Prince of Peace, and there would be no end to peace or to his princely rule. Furthermore, Jesus' rulership would be sustained "by means of justice and by means of righteousness." (Isaiah 9:7)

Humans tend to look down on people of little means, even if these poor ones have performed noble deeds. This was true in Jesus' case. Isaiah prophesied about him: "He was despised and was avoided by men, a man meant for pains and for having acquaintance with sickness." (Isaiah 53:3)
