same thing happened to my 94 LeSabre. It happened from time to time with no "Service Engine Soon" indication. Eventually I got the indication, it was the EGR valve.

It is NOT necessary to get a whole new door panel, but replacing the armrest is recommended over repair. If you remove the door panel you will see that the armrest is attached to the door panel by several 8mm screws from behind. Check "Hemmings Motor News" for vendors.
If it is a grand Cherokee there is another relay under pass side headlamp. After you remove the headlamp you have to drill a big hole with hole saw or you could do it the way jeep says to and remove the whole front face and the support.
