Low oil will trigger a different warning light, specifically the low oil light will come on.

In a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire, there are two oxygen sensors. One would be located in the exhaust before the catalytic converter. The other is located in the exhaust after the catalytic converter.

most the time it means you didnt tighten your gas cap properly. if its not that its probably a sensor that has gone bad.

Need to do service confirmed:

1- Door closed key position 1 (make sure you have the temp. screen up before starting) immediatly after turning to posistion one, press the reset button 3 times. and the battery voltage should come up.

2- page down to serivce data menu. Use plus and minus to select service data and hit page down to select.

3- Use plus and minus to scroll down to "confirm overall service" , then hit page down. It should say service confirmed.

4- Take the key out ant put back at position 2, the service message should be gone

I had the same issues with trying to reset the service codes for my M/B ML350. After looking everywhere and getting no help from the Mercedes dealerships, it turns out, the directions for resetting my service codes were right in my owners manual! I tried it and it worked the first time........I just can't figure out why Mercedes wouldn't tell their owners such a simple solution to a very irritating problem!

You need to start by having your car checked for codes. You can then fix the cause. It will probably have to do with a speed sensor.

2004 Jeep Cherokee Overland 4x4, HP 4.7 engine. auto trans. 40,000 miles Had the transmission flushed and oil R&R. The engine light came on shortly after and has stayed on. WHY?? I took it back to the service tech, he made the light go off for a short while but it is now on all the time. Checked fuel cap. and it's ok and tight.

Well i would think it was an electrical failure of some sort poor connection of sensor/s maybe if you disconnect battery earth lead hold down horn and switch lights and anything else on in your car hold down horn for minimum 2minutes then reconnect battery this will wipe all of ur ecus memory so if it continues to blink after this then look for loose wiring or corroded or poor connections to one of your sensors

important if u do this u may need to get ur radio code as ull be locked out and reset ur clock

The check engine light does not come on when an oil change is due. The check engine light is for an emissions related failure. It is reset with a scan tool after the fault is repaired.

It is on because the ECU has detected a problem with the emissions system. Have the system scanned with an OBD2 scan tool to retrieve the code that has been set. This code will tell you what part of the system is being effected. Not necessarily the defective part but what part is being effected.

mine did the same thing i canged the plugs and two coil packs if you have an advance auto near by they will plug it in and tell you the problem if check engine lite comes on like mine was missing cylinder 4 & 6. like I said i replaced the plugs first and it was still missing and then i replaced two coil packs which are about 50.00 a piece. mine a 98 grand marquis 146000 miles on it

first off buy a repair manual for like $20. There's a two prong blue plug that hangs under the dash on the passengers side. Turn ur key to the on position then use a paper clip to use as a jumper to the two prong holes on that plug and watch the flashes of your check engine light. it will flash so many times then pause and flash again so many times. the amount of flashes tells u the first digit then pauses and then gives u the second digit of the engine code. so u'll have a blink with a pause then four more blinks, that means your engine code would be 14. A dealer or repair manual will tell you what that code means.

Disconnect the red terminal on battery and let it sit for 15-30 minutes, reconnect the battery and check engine light should be off because the computer has been reset.

How do you reset the "check engine soon" light on a 2005 Ford Explorer? I usually disconnect the battery.. for couple of minutes and reconnect the same. But I advise you to have this checked with the ford dealers or anyone with a computer console as the above is just a temporary solution. Its better to spend a couple of $ resolving a problem then $$$$ repenting over it !!!!

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired. Yes, depending on the cause, you could do damage.

Pull the codes from the computer, match the code to the troubleshooting procedure, follow the procedure to find the source. Repair the source, light will go out if that was the only problem. There are "monitors" or self test the computer runs the car through, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist. It is emission related. We just found out that the check engine light on our 1993 Toyota Pickup is due to a bad "knock sensor".
