my 2004 neon will not turn over after i tried to start it without the key has the computer locked me out also engine light blinks when key is on.

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

By repairing whatever tripped the light. Then you use an OBD2 scan tool to reset the light. You just have to disconnect the battery for a minute and then the check engine light go off, if the problem has been fixed!!! Disconnecting the battery will reset the light on most, but not all, 1995 & older cars, but on 1996 and newer cars this will rarely reset the light. It requires an OBD2 scan tool to reset the light on most newer cars.

My service engine light came on at 95,000 miles. A simple tune-up, plugs, ect... and it ran like new again. You might find an auto parts store, like Auto Zone, that can check the engines computer for free.

I am having the same issue on my vehicle. Everything I can find so far tells me it's a failed O2 Sensor.

If you are lucky enough to live in a state with an autozone store just go to the store or call them and they will tell you what the problem code is.

The code actually does not say it has failed but only that it is a insufficent switching bank 1 sensor 1

If the gas cap needs replacing, the "Check Engine" light will usually come on. Tighten the cap until it clicks 4 or 5 times... if the light goes out, you're cap is good, if the light stays on, replace the cap.

Retrieve the code that is causing the MIL to illuminate and you will be pointed in the right direction. There are thousands of different parameters being monitored by the car's computer so it is impossible to guess which one is causing the MIL.

Any auto parts store (Autozone, Oreilly, NAPA, etc.) will connect to your OBDII port for free to retrieve the code for you, and you'll have a gearhead that may be able to give you advice and help you diagnose the problem, also for free. A garage may and a dealership WILL charge you to retrieve the code, and they sure wont tell you how to go about fixing it.
