How do you reset the engine light on a 1997 civic EX?

If you are referring to the check engine light, then the computer has detected a problem with the emissions system. Use an OBD2 scan tool to find the fault code and after repairing the fault, use the same tool to reset the light. If you don't have access to an OBD2 scan tool, than you can just disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for about ten minutes. The downside to doing this is you will have to reset the clock and radio stations on your radio.

How do you reset the check oil light after an oil change?

What do you mean by check oil light? If the oil light is on it means the oil pressure is low and stop the engine immediately and check the oil level. Now if you are referring to the maintenance required light then without the make, model, & year of the vehicle I cannot answer your question. All I can say is read you owners manual. On most newer GM cars and trucks you turn the key on and push the gas pedal to the floor 3 times, turn off.

What are the diagnostic trouble codes -DTC- for the check engine light on a Ford Taurus - Mercury Sable?

I do not ever recall seeing this question!

Be forewarned though, the base diagnostic trouble code (DTC) descriptions are very short & cryptic.

But it's a good start to identifying the components/sensors/readings that are involved.

What does a blinking check engine light indicate where to start looking for an engine miss?

== == You need a diagnostic download tool that will tell you the actual stored memory codes, which is the first step in fixing the problem. These tools are about $130 USD to buy, or you can go a licensed gagage and have the technician do it, for a price. By having the test done by a tech you will not be guessing as to what the problem is, and throwing money at it trying to get it fixed. Spend the money for the test, and know for sure what is wrong with the car. Then have it fixed and be happy. Many autoparts stores now offer to read those codes for free. Of course they're hoping that you'll buy any needed parts from them. I use Autozone for this virtually every time to find out what the car is complaining about. I agree using Auto zone or Advanced Auto. They read and cleared my code for free. CEL stayed on all the time on my 2001 Windstar. Turned out to be the EGR sensor I replaced.

Where is the plug to get code for check engine light 1998 vw cabrio?

Answer

To the right of the rear window defroster button, behind a plastic cover. Just pop it off with a flat head screw driver.

On my 1998 Cabrio, I found it to the right of the ash tray. Remove ash tray then slide the cover to the immediate right of the ash tray to the left to reveal the OBDII connector.

92 dodge Spirit After I've been driving it for about 15 minutes the check engine light comes on and then when I turn it off and start it again the light isn't on. Can anyone help me?

Could be that after you started it then turned it off then restarted it that you've reset the codes and fooled the Computer... you need to have the codes run on the car to see what the problem really is, i dont think its anything major since the car seems to be running good.

This is happening to my car too and I had the codes run and they did a scope on my engine and a bunch of other things and they could not find anything wrong. They said to be careful and monitor the temperature because it did occassionally show it was over heating but other than that not to worry. It has now also stopped over heating. Mine is a 94 but the problem sounds the same.

How to solve a code 35 in a 1993 GMC 1500 with a 4.3 engine?

Before going any further verify that none of the spark plug wires are old or damaged or located near the wire to the knock sensor. Wrapping them in aluminum foil can also eliminate this problem. If this doesn't help, follow normal diagnostic procedure.

according to my information a code 35 on 1993 gmc is an idle air control system problem/idle speed actuator.

How do you get the check engine light off on a 1996 Nissan Sentra?

Pull the codes from the computer, match the code to the troubleshooting procedure, follow the procedure to find the source. Repair the source, light will go out if that was the only problem. There are "monitors" or self test the computer runs the car through, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist.
