Why does your 98 Cavalier Z24 engine RPM drop at idle and almost stall then return to normal?

Check the following: - O2 sensor - Idle control motor You should also have it check on a diagnostic computer because it more then likely a bad sensor.

AnswerMy car is having the exact same problem. When I start the car the idel goes up and then returns to normal range for a short time. After a few seconds it will start to run rough (the RPMs start to get rough going from 500 to zero and then back up) with a rev of the motor this stops. When i put the car in gear it almost dies that is if it doesn't. Then it seems like it is hard for the car to take off. Once going the car is fine until i must stop at a sign or a light. When i am stopped the cars RPMs start getting rough going from 500 to zero again and sometimes dieing. It starts right back up again. So if anyone could give me a sugestion that would be great. I drive a 98 sable 3.0L

Answer

I had the same problem with my '97 cavalier and the problem ended up being a bad battery connection. If there is a red cover over the positive terminal remove it.

ANSWER

I had the exact problem with my 93 Chevy z24. it kept doing it until my dad suggested unplugging the tcc solenoid on the transmission. hasn't done it since. a mechanic told me something wasnt engaging and made the car act like a manual when you don't press the clutch. and shut off. i .

All the above are good answers. I had the exact same problem, my solution was a new TPS (throttle positioning sensor). After replacing, the car was still hard to start but idle was smoother however the main problem still existed. I started searching for vacuume leaks. Sure enough I found a vacuume hose in front of the throttle body that was dry rotted. It's 1/4" rubber hose about 4'' long. Goes from a sensor to the bottom of the throttle body. I replaced the hose with a 67 cent piece of vaccume hose and problem solved..card runs great now.

What can cause a very high idle on a 1991 F-250 with a 5.0L other than a vacuum leak?

Common problem.. The "Idle Air Control" valve (IAC) is the usual culprit. It is located on the throttle body.

BMW 318I SE auxiliary fan not working?

I have similar problem with my 1990 318i and found that the aux fan not working (if you connect power directly - it works) because the thermal switch circuitry is faulty. I have then bipassed the thermal siwitches and made it so that the fan should run when ac is on. It worked for some time but then the fan being faulty itself is drawing too much current and blowing the fuse.

Will headlights from a 1999 cavalier fit on a 2000?

Where are the spark plugs on a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant and can you change them without much trouble?

Spark plugs are always either located on top of valve cover or front or back of cylinder head. Always use the correct tooling which is a spark plug socket which has a rubber seeling in the inside to hold the spark plug while removing and protecting the plug from breaking. Its good to get the recommended spark plug and checking the spark plug gap before replacing new one.

AnswerTrace the spark plug wires from the distribution system and you will find that they are on the back side of the engine (nearest the firewall). No, there is no EASY way for the layman to change any plugs located like that. Feel is the best way to get them out -feel where plug is, guide the plug socket over plug, undo it and remove. In some cases, you can use a dental type mirror to reinstall the plugs. I suggest doing them one at a time to keep your firing order in line. AnswerActually I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Galants and they are not on the backside of the engine. Mine are on topside of the engine behind the oil cap. There are two types of spark plugs on the 2000 Galant. Two that are connect to a psuedo-distributor and the other two have small black boxes on the which are computer sensors that are constantly reading the spark timing. It is actually very easy to change them. The plug wire socket pops off and then you can screw the plug out. just make sure that when you remove the two with the computer boxes on them that you do it very carefully not to bend or bang the box, cuz them you'll have a problem. AnswerJust changed the spark plugs on my 2000 Galant 4cyl....very easy! The above answer is very informative, the plugs are located directly on top of the motor behind oil cap.The only thing I will add:make sure you have some way to remove the plug from the engine(the plugs are about 7" down inside the motor)once you loosen the plugs you still have to some how get them out.I didnt have a tool that would fit down the hole to grab it so I stuck a few pieces of bubble gum into the spark plug socket and they came right out(kinda like putting gum on the end of a stick to get a coin out a gutter)It takes a total of 15min.Good Luck. :-)

Does the 1999 Cavalier have an anti-theft system and if so how can you disable it?

Yes it does and take it to the dealer

What if you want to fix it yourself. Dealers charge too much. I did it once, but forgot the sequence. You turn the key to almost start a certain amount of times, and then hold it in that position for like 10 minutes. I forgot how many times you have to turn it is the problem. It would be nice if someone coudld share an actual answer, instead of saying take it to a dealer!!!

Your shifter cable needs adjusting.Disconnect it at the top of the transmission and from the bracket that holds it. Pull it up so you can see it and how it is made.Right there is where you adjust it.It will get shorter or longer, whichever you need. You can hear it click and see it move when it slides.

How do you remove headrest in a 1997 Chevy Cavalier?

I just removed the headrests from my 95 Cavalier. No one really had a good way to do it other then cutting or totally remove the clips from the seat up. It's quite easy if you have the right tools. Take a old windshield wiper blade and remove the metal stainless steel strips. Cut them into 3 inch pcs. Bend it into the shape of an "L" (1"x2" roughly). Trim the long end into a point. Make two of them. Climb into the back seat behind the seat you what to remove the head rest from. Lift the headrest all the way up, Insert the long end of the "L", down the back side of the headrest shaft 3/4 of the way down. The short leg of the "L" should be pointing at you. Using both hands, and force the short part of the "L" to the right of both shafts. What your trying to do is to slide the flat part of the "L" between the shaft and the retaining clip. It only catches on the right side of both shafts. The short part of the "L" may end up pointing at the right frt headlight before it releases the clip. You'll know that you got it when you're able to lift the headrest straight up and out. The clip stays in place and life is good. Good luck

How do you remove the dash on a 2004 Chevy cavaliers?

You wil need a star screwdriver, Philips head screwdriver and a wrench or ratchet.

First pop off the side pannels, the only over your fuse box and the passanger side same location. After that open your glove box. There are star screwdriver screws on the side pannles and on the upper rim of the glove box. After you are done with that use the wrench of ratchet, there are two bronze bolts in the little cutout in the glove box attached to a metal bar, take those two bolts out. Now unscrew the screws on the vent grate ontop of the dash and remove that. Now your done.

Can a driver side power window unit be repaired?

It depends on what you mean by "repaired." If you mean take the window motor apart and repair it, the answer is probably yes, but why? The effort and expense would far outweigh, just replacing the unit. If you just mean can a power window be fixed? Then the answer is yes. You need to find out what went bad, the motor, cable, or track assembly, and replace it.

Does a 1991 Chevy Cavalier Z24 have airbags?

To the best of my knowledge, cav's z's didn't have airbags till 95 with the design change. Hope this helps. Least I never saw one, and I have had an 86, 92, and currently a 94. Work on tons and never seen one. It should have at least a driver air bag. Check the car manual or see if there is a "AIRBAG" writen on the center of the steering wheel. For passenger air bag there could be the same sign or the panel in front of passenger have a cutout or outlined section. The air bag would come out from there. Best way to actually find out if your car has air bags is to ask anyone with automotive knowledge to look at your car.

Where is the PCV valve on a 1997 Nissan hardbody pickup 4-cylinder?

The PCV valve on the KA24E 4-cylinder is located in front of the oil filter and above the alternator. It points to the rear of the engine. You will need only two tools; a stubby 19mm open end wrench and a pair of pliers to remove the hose clamp. I did it without removing anything else. Just reach around to the right of the oil filter. It took about 15 minutes. Here is a pic:

How do you replace power steering pump on a 2001 cavalier z24?

first question, which i will ask before anyone else posts the wrong answer to you like the other how-to sites i've been reading (mine needs to be replaced also), what model engine do you have. Because all the other sites are saying remove the belt and pulley and so on, and if your setup is the same as mine it does not have a pulley and belt, they are on the passenger side of engine and the pump is on the driver side top, attached to engine block. On mine it runs off the engine running, NOT belts, like so many other "mechanics" are posting, it looks rather simple, but i'ld rather know from a real mechanic first before i attempt it myself.

Smokingallowed say's..... You are correct in a certain angle...IF you were working on a 95-6 or before... The power steering pump was bolted onto the intake cam on the 2.4 DOHC engine, like '97 & some 96 grand am's & others. you can tell if ur engine applies...2.4 will be stamped on the coil pac cover.(top of engine)....I WANT TO WARN YOU...this engine is VERY different than the conventual 4cyl engine.....It is a "Quad 4" type engine....It has it's OWN way of being rebuilt....Sence, U just want to relpace the ster. pump....It is easy...Just put old rags underneath the power stering hoses connections.... It will be a sloppy, messy job if you dont....drain as much out as you can....(less to run out when you disconnect the hoses)...... You can pretty much see what needs to be done... There should not be any pressure because the pump is not spinning... Undo the 2 rubber lines(catch the mess).... Then remove the 2 bolts... You see them,,i'm sure.....pull it straight off....just keep a spare rag to clean-up any oil that comes out of the intake cam.....(very little) ......... Look at this critter....not so intemidating now...is it? there will be a little shaft sticking out(like an Allen wrench).... The hoses are not free so replace acording to your finances. ..But think that they are old and tired...... Goes back on reverse of removing.....When U refill the pump resivoir repair manules want U to raise front wheels off ground and turn sterring wheel all the way left and right WITHOUT hitting the stops.... (get's the air out of lines) I found out with ALL my z-cars...it dont matter if on ground or up in air...Just as long as you turn the wheels both ways...the air has no choice but to leave the system...check fluid and DONT over fill....Steering fluid expands when heated.....Good luck,,,but,rember...to rebuild this engine, you will need to do alot of homework
