In the fuel tank

The fiberglass panel at the side of the battery has to be removed and the battery is removed sideways.

I wouldn't remove the panel entirely,I would remove the top bolts on the side panel and remove the ones on the fender weld. At the bottom of the side panel where the gap is,I would just loosen it so the panel can fall outwards, this will allow you to work the battery outwards, may have to tip it to get out and tip it again to get it back in.

L82 is engine type. To expand on the above, L82 was an option designation, similarly L98 and LT1 and LS1.

Sure is(at least on the 5.7...not sure about 5.0), located in center console wiring, located right of your right leg if you were sitting in driver's seat...dark green in color.

The small canister shaped unit is located just to the left of the ECM (electronic control module) inside the right side of the dashboard on 1989 and earlier models. Under the dash; on or very near the steering column.

To take your top down open both doors then push forward on the red bottons on the top release handles located at the top of hte roof by the visors and pull down on the levers. Releve the tension on the back of the roof and gentle pull this back from the car. Raise these up and then open the compartment for the roof. There is a release by the drivers door. You may need the ignition key to unlock it. Lift the compartment lid. Lower the bottom of the roof into the compartment do not drop the top in. Lower it in carefully and watch to see if it folds properly you may need to push the top bar back into position to get it to go in flush to the top. Close your top and enjoy.

This is a relative easy task, but finding the access is the main problem. Under the light on the bottom side of the front bumper are two little doors, secured by two screws. Remove the screws and the little doors will open downward for access. Be real careful with the doors, for there is no hinges, just the plastic cut out. Now reach up and you will feel the bulb and socket, remove the bulb and replace with a new one. These are halogen so use the usual caution when handling this type bulb. Attach the plug end on the new bulb, and reinsert into the housing hole. Be ready to have a few cuts on your hand, because the access hole to for very tiny hands. Torchred94 >^..^

Check your Air Conditioning / Heater Vacuum Check Valve. It located under the passenger side fuel rail cover. This plastic part break apart because of the heat of the engine over time. The vacuum tubes probably are just hanging next to this valve. I had this same problem and this was the part in question.

Generally 4 degrees before top dead center with the vacuum advance disconnected.If you have access to an advanced timing light then 35 degrees total is ideal. All manuals refer you to the sticker on the radiator cowl......There it states that the base timing is 6 DEGREES BEFORE TOP DEAD CENTER (DR).

The base model's 5.7L LS1 V8 puts out 350hp and the Z06's 5.7L LS6 V8 puts out 385hp.

To adjust the kick down cable there is a clip that u remove and adjust the sheth lenght. if you cant get enough adjustment from that they sell replacement cables that are adjustable. The technical name is Detent cable

This depends on whether or not your wheels are staggered (the front and rear wheels are different sizes). On some years of Corvette all four wheels were the same size, and on some they weren't. For example, I can't rotate the tires on my 95 Corvette because the rear tires are wider than the ones in front.
If your tires are different sizes from front to rear but wearing unevenly, an option would be to swap the tires from left to right, keeping them on the same end of the car (ex. right rear to left rear). However, it is very important to note that if your wheels or tires are unidirectional (side specific) or have an asymmetrical tread pattern (the tread changes as it moves across the tire), you won't be able to swap your tires.

Also, moving tires from one side to another isn't generally considered rotation. After all, the point of rotating tires and keeping them on the same side of the car is due to the fact that tires develop wear patterns based on your suspension and alignment.


Check the tire size for your year Corvette. If all of your tires are the same size, you can rotate them. If they are different sizes but you feel that uneven wear needs to be addressed, consult a mechanic you trust to discuss options.

Have a 95, convert, 6 SPD, 3,45 rear axle ratio. Stock engine. On 300 mile highway trip, driving 75 MPG, got 27 mpg. Around town in mixed driving get around 20 mpg. If I drive hard and fast, will drop to about 17 mpg. Pretty good fuel mileage for a muscle car which is fun to drive and gets a lot of looks

All you have to do is remove the screw plug from the oil pan under the car and let the oil drain into a container. You should also remove the oil filter which is located on the lower drivers side of the engine (I think, if not its on the other side). Simply unscrew it and replace with a new one prior to putting the new oil in the engine. Put the plug back in to the oil pan once the oil has drained out and replace the oil.

The gas mileage of a 1981 Corvette can depend on whether it is automatic or manual transmission. With automatic transmission, it gets 15 mpg on the highway, and 21 in the city, but with manual transmission, it gets 14 mpg on the highway, and 22 in the city.
