Your temps sound normal for an 86. Fuel injected Vettes are designed to run hotter than the old carb engines. The thermostats are around 195 degrees. The hotter the metal the less heat loss during combustion, more power.
I have the same problem with my 1984 corvette. The oil temp runs between 250 and 260 and the outside temp doesn't seem to matter. My 86 with 25C outside runs 95C in town, 85C on the highway, oil temp is always within 3-4C of these temps. It would run considerably hotter if it was 116F though. Here is what I did to lower the oil temp. in my 84 Vette.....First I removed the radiator and had it "reversed power flush, then with the thermostat out I flushed the engine block and heater core.....I ran about 70 to 85 gallons of water through just the engine and heater core. I installed a 160 degree thermostat.........At the same time I installed a manual fan switch that I control from inside the car.........I use the manual fan switch in city traffic........I can monitor the engine temp. on my dash gauge and flip the fan switch whenever I see the temp. gauge getting around 90 degrees...I can then see an instant drop in engine temp. thus reducing the temp. of the oil........I don't have to worry anymore when I take the Vette for a spin on a hot humid day that it will get too hot and cause some damage to the engine...........Good Luck ! ! ! !

Is l98 in 89 z28 same as l98 in 89 corvette?
Pretty much the same engine. Most of the differences in the engines in the Camaro, Firebird, and Vette were nothing more than the tuning in the computer. Sometimes a little better exhaust system. About the only thing that MAY be different when it comes to the mechanicals of the engine would be the camshaft. But I doubt that even that is different.

give it as much advance as you can until it ping under load then just back it up a bit make sure you use premium fuel they usually set up the timing to run on low octane fuel so use premium and as much timing and you will see a big difference in performance (low end mid range and top end) also better fuel economy just make sure there is no pinging under load at operating temp(engine warmed up)
