Chevy Malibu

The thermostat is located at the end of the 1 1/2 " radiator hose on the left side of the car at the engine block where the hose connects. It is not easy to get at and you need open ended wrenches. It is tight and the bottom bolt ( there are 2 holding the thermostat housing on) is difficult with only partial turns using an open end wrench.

Follow the hose to from the rad to the block and there it is at the base of the housing where the hose connects. You need to disconect the air filter housing case and remove it. You will also need to disconnect the wire harnesses and a couple of hoses.

Make sure you look at which way the thermostat fits in the block so you do not put in the thermostat backwards.

Pull the fan relay censor out ( located in the intake manifold to the left of the housing with a2 wires going to it) to eliminate an air lock. Do this when the engine is running

and just back it out far enough to have a fluid flow out of it , then retighten the sensor. You can also get a Haynes Manual at the library for a step by step approach to repair problems.

Remove the oil pan. The oil pump will be visible. Remove the oil pump pickup to. Remove the oil pump retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new oil pump.

One of the most common electrical problems with the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu is with the ignition switchÊhaving to be replaced. Another problem is the passlock sensor failing.

The 1999 Chevy Malibu with the 2.4 engine does not use a PVC valve. Instead the system uses an oil/air separator that can clog up and cause the same symptoms.

The gas tank on the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu holds 16 gal.

The best thing you can do if you are going to do this rather than have a repair shop is to purchase a Haynes Manual that is specific to your car.

your gas gauge float is in the gas tank you have to drop your gas tank and take out sending unit but if the gas gauge is not reading right you should check the ground wire on the gas tank

It would help to have some idea what it was supposed to fit. Car, washing machine, toaster, computer.

Owner's manual. I would suspect this is the Traction Control light.

Assuming no one rewired it incorrectly, (you can never be too careful) black is always ground. The other three colors likely indicate various speakers, so play with each one to an output to see. You can't really go wrong with that. One of them should be a 12v power from the battery, usually red. Don't touch that to a speaker, it'll definitely blow. The last one left should be the ignition wire, so that the system turns on at the right time. You don't technically need that, but it helps.

I think you mights needs a 44" monkey wrench and a toggle piccost gadget thinggy. I thinks that might be the size of tools you prolly needs when chainjin breaks.

Doing my water pump now on 2000 Malibu. First remove the tube that runs in front of the water pump by taking the 2 bolts off the motor mount and undo the plastic clamp on the hoses. Next remove the serpine belt. this is done by taking the tension off the belt. In order to do this take a 3/8 braker bar with a short piece of pipe and put in in the tensionser. Do not remove the bolt. The 3/8 squre is on the bottom of the tensioner. Apply a little pressure on the pipe and you'll be able to able to remove the belt. Now remove the 4 bolts on the water pump pully. They open to the left.( a normal therad ). Now you will be able to get at the 5 bolts on the water pump. Hope this helps

Answer From my experience the clunk sound is comming form the lower a arm and the bolt that goes straigt thru the biscuit, needs to be tightned I am not a expert but I did spend alot of time figuring it out on my car. some one else writes, did you replace the ball joints? that's the main reason why cars make a single noise while turning.

The dealer tells me it is just in front of the gas tank, may have to lower the tank to gain access.

The bezel that holds it into the door pull is only held in with a couple of tabs. With a flathead screw driver, put the end of the screw driver and pry up on the bezel and it should come free for you.

All of the wires to the switch are just clipped in. All you need to do is squeeze the clip tabs and the wires will come off of the switch.
