How do you pronounce Meyer lemon?
You would pronounce the words 'Meyer lemon' in English almost like they are spelled. However, the word 'Meyer is pronounced 'my-er.' In other words, the words would be pronounced similar to 'my-er leh-mon.'
Can you use 15-15-15 fertilizer on citrus trees in Arizona?
Yes, 15-15-15 fertilizer can be used on citrus trees in Arizona.
Specifically, the three numbers identify the percentage weights of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The amount to apply is dependent upon the age, the nutrient amount needed, and the timing. For example, a very young citrus tree may need three ounces of nitrogen. You must divide the amount needed (3 oz) by the percentage weight of nitrogen (15%, or 0.15), to get 20 ounces (1-1/4 pounds).
Why do you see lemons as yellow?
All objects reflect the color of light that you see. Thus; lemons reflect yellow light rays, limes reflect green ones, and Oranges reflect orange light rays. On a final note, white objects reflect all colored light waves, and black objects reflect none.
With that said, the cones in your retina register these reflected light rays; thus, it makes sense that rooms without any light are black.
How do you fertilize a tangerine tree?
Three times a year for the entire life of the tree is how tangerine trees (Citrus x tangerina) are fertilized.
Specifically, tangerine trees accept fertilizer treatments with the start of new growth in February and then in May and in September. They benefit from one cup of ammonium sulfate or special citrus tree fertilizer at each of the three fertilizer sessions in the first year. The amount is increased to two cups each in the second year, three each in the third, four each in the fourth, etc.
Do limes and lemons come from the same tree?
no limes come from lime trees lemons come from lemon trees.
Why are orange trees often sprayed with water?
Because the water freezes and puts a layer of ice on the fruit. This ice acts like an insulating blanket, protecting the plant from the colder than freezing temperatures that causes cellular wall damage that destroys the skin on the fruit and eventually the whole fruit.
"As the water freezes on the leaves, it gives off heat protecting the tree. The ice can also form an insulation barrier." Close, but not quite. What the orange growers are relying on is a thermodynamic property (in this case, of water) called latent heat of fusion. Basically, since water can exist in its solid and liquid form simultaneously ONLY at 32° F, it will stay at that temperature until it is all frozen. So for a short-lived cold snap, this strategy can protect one's orange trees by having the sprayed-on water freeze essentially instead of the orange. But if it stays below freezing for an extended period, the oranges will freeze, too.
Osage Orange where can you buy seedlings?

Which tree gives fruit for 300 years?
Yew trees live for hundreds of years (often in churchyards) and bear red fruit. These berries are gloopy, sugary and edible, however the seeds are highly poisonous. If you must eat yew berries then be careful.

Are scallops a good fertilizer for kumquat trees?
No, scallops are not good fertilizer choices for kumquat trees (C. japonica).
Specifically, kumquats are citrus trees. They benefit from fertilizers that are designed especially for citrus trees. Otherwise, they favor slow-release, incomplete fertilizers. An incomplete fertilizer is lacking in one of the three macronutrients nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. In this case, a wise choice tends to be one-third slow release nitrogen in a formulation on the order of 12-0-12 or 15-0-14, in which phosphorus is absent.

Lemons can also be used to flavor foods and make wonderful decorations. The acid and flavor of lemons are well-known to brighten many otherwise heavy dishes. They accompany fish or seafood dishes particularly well, but are often used in Mediterrean cooking and other cuisines as well.
A fruit bowl full of lemons makes a wonderful and aromatic centerpiece and brightens any table. Dried lemon peels provide a colorful addition to homemade potpourri, and whole fresh lemons along with oranges, studded with whole cloves, make beautifully fragrant decorations at the holidays.
Is the fruit of the Lisbon Lemon tree edible?
Absolutely it is edible, although tart! Good for lemonade and with 7 limes per 1 lemon, cerviche, etc. I bought a three foot one from Lowe's for 15 clams today and plan on planting it tomorrow in New Orleans. Here is a link with more info: www.citrusvariety.ucr.edu/citrus/frostlisbon.html
When are lemons ready to be picked from lemon tree?
Lemon trees need to be monitered constantly because they produce fruit year round. To figure out if a lemon is ready to be picked, pinch the lemons on the tree gently but firmly. It should ideally be hard because if the lemon is squishy then you have waited too long. If the lemon gives at all under your fingers, then you need to pick it right away.
Next, measure the diameter. A lemon that is ready to be picked should be about two to three inches in diameter. If a lemon is too small leave it on the tree a day or so more and keep a close eye on it. You don't want to let it hang too long because small lemons will have thinner skin and be juicier than larger ones.
Lemons should not be eaten right from the tree because when they are picked they should still be somewhat green. The lemon will ripen and turn yellow after it has been pulled from the tree. If you see a lemon getting too yellow you should take it from the tree right away.
You don't want lemons to stay on the tree too long because they will get very large, misshapen, and turn brown.
Suha or Pomelo (Citrus grandis) is the largest citrus fruit of all with fruits weighing up to 3.0 kilos. According to the Oxford Companion to Food authored by Alan Davidson, the Pomelo is an ancestor of the grapefruit and is believed to have originated in the Malay Peninsula or Western Indonesia. From there it migrated westwards and now thrives in several tropical climates around the world. Pomelo is believed to be derived from the Malay word pumpulmas which evolved into the Dutch pompelmoes and truncated by the English into pummelo or pomelo. Sometimes called Shaddock for the sea captain who brought them from Polynesia to the West Indies in the mid-1600's. Several varieties are now being grown and the pomelos from one country to the other vary tremendously. Indonesia has huge fruits that sometimes have a milder flavor. Thailand likewise has large juicy fruit that is either yellowish or light pink in color. The Philippines tends to have smaller fruit and while I would say at best, erratic quality, the good pomelos here are really good. I like the smaller fruit as long as the texture, color and taste are top notch.
