What happens when an ammeter is connected in parallel with a circuit?

SMOKE!!! Yiii-haaaa! An ammeter is always as low a resistance as possible. That way, the current that you measure in a circuit using the meter will be the same as if the meter were not there. So putting an ammeter in parallel with a circuit means that you just short circuited the circuit you were intending to measure. Poof! There goes your ammeter!
An ammeter has a very low internal resistance. So, if it is connected in parallel with a load, it will short-out that load. The resulting high current flowing through the ammeter may severely damage the meter (and possible harm the user), although most are fitted with fuses to protect them.

Well, I own a Panasonic convection micro combo- given to me without the original users instructions. I reheated one of those white paper Asian food carry-out containers that are stapled on the sides (metal staples) for 1 minute and the container was absolutely fine. Now I don't know about large metal objects, but just in case anyone wants to know I thought this might help.

Here's a suggestion. Let the manufacturer make the call on this one. No one on this board can tell for sure without the owners manual or the model number of the machine in question (so one could look at the owner's manual). "No" is a safe answer, but it may not be correct. A combination machine like the convection microwave has expanded cooking capabilities, and anyone who ponies up for one of these puppies should know whether or not something like foil can be used inside it. Some microwave ovens allow a bit of foil over a portion of a food item being cooked, like the ends of drumstick on a bird. If the manufacturer's manual is not handy, it may be possible to go to the manufacturer's web site and actually view it online. Certainly the pamphlet can be had by ordering it. Get the manual. Read it. There might be several things in there that weren't obvious. Like whether or not foil can be used in the oven.

Yes you can, if using the convection component. It's just like an oven - same pots and pans, except the cook time is shorter due to the fan system. You do need shallow pans. I cook biscuts on the bottom of the pan. Just flip it over. It makes yummy biscuits. Change oven recipes to shorter times than conventional ovens. Things cook faster in a convection oven.

This is not a joke. Hey, this may sound really weird but I was having suddenly a great deal of static on my AM radio at home. This has gone on for weeks. Well, the other day I set a spray can of Old Spice "Red Zone" deodorant next to and touching the radio. The static was gone. When I pick up the can the static comes back. The can has to be placed at exactly the right spot where the internal antenna is. The can looks like brushed aluminum. I've tried other things but only this works. I have no idea why it works, but it does. I know this sounds weird but it works for me.

Nowadays converting an electricity service from 50 Hz to 60 Hz can be done by using an expensive electronic invertor unit. Before such units became available you would have to install an even more expensive motor-alternator set which was very large, heavy and noisy.

Some small portable 50 Hz appliances - such as electric shavers, battery chargers for cell-phones, cameras, music and video players, laptop or netbook personal computers, etc. - have been designed to run safely on different supply voltages and frequencies. Whenever that is so, it should be clearly stated on the appliances' rating-plates. In many such cases, where the power needed is low, say less than 30 Watts, a cheap and simple "International Travel Socket Adapter" is all that is needed to make the appliance plug-in and work. If the power needed is higher (such as for an electric kettle, a fridge, a freezer, a washing machine or a dryer) instead of paying a lot of money for something to convert the available service frequency from 50 Hz to 60 Hz it is much more economic to buy - either new or secondhand - an appliance that has been designed to run on 60 Hz.

Electric kettles are unaffected by frequency of course, but US-marketed 60-Hz appliances, such as fridges, freezers, washing machines, etc., have been regularly used in places such as the UK (e.g. on US air bases, as well as privately) using a suitably-rated transformer. For example, I used a 230-V 50-Hz washing machine in Canada (60 Hz) for several years, and a large 120-V 60-Hz fridge in the UK for several years, without any damage to either appliance. So, while it would be more economical to buy a new appropriate voltage/frequency appliance in the country in which it is to be used, it also makes economic sense to make use of your existing appliances instead if you decide to ship them.
