How did Jimi Hendrix affect the 1960s?
Jimi Hendrix had a massive effect on the music scene in the second half of the 1960s. Unable to get a break at home he moved to London in the years 1965/66 where he literally blew the minds of everyone he met and changed the course of popular music with his unique musical ability. The likes of Pete Townsend of the Who and Eric Clapton were left open mouthed at his mastery of the guitar that seemed to act as a natural extension of his body. The amazing thing about Hendrix was his ability to bring young people of all colors together under his banner at a time when racial tension was rife in the U.S. He returned home a superstar. Hendrix also liked to get high on L.S.D. and other illicit substances which a lot of people copied to 'tune in' to his sound. So it's true to say that he would not have been popular with the ruling establishment. However, it is probably safe to say that Jimi Hendrix is the most influential guitarist of his generation if not every generation since the 1960s.
