Dodge Durango. loud knock and rattle. What is a stuck lifter?
A stuck lifter is one that is gummed up with sludge. It is hydraulic and pumps oil. If it is sludged up, then it can't do what it is designed to do. Thus causing a tapping noise. Loud knock are either a rod, rod bearing, knock sensor, rocker arm, valvel spring, timing belt, or possibly just the belt tensioner. If it is a stuck lifter, the cheapest fix would be to run some engine flush in the engine, drain the oil and refill with good oil. If that works it was a stuck lifter. If not, Check with the most accessible first, pull the valve covers and check the rockers and valves. You may need to remove the intake first to access them. If it broke you will see it usually.
If nothing is broke then go to the timing belt. Hope this helps.

Located under the glove box approx where left foot rests, two 8mm screws attach it to plastic housing, I use a 6"mirror & 8mm nut driver to remove it, do not confuse it w/ the round sensor wiring harness facing horizontally that has no screws.

How do you install a Dodge Durango door actuator?
Tools you will need.
one torx wrench
one bottle of rubbing alcohol
q-tips
hammer
phillips head screwdriver
so go ahead and start by unscrewing all the screws in the door panel, when you get those off, just go slow when you remove the panel, there's all sorts of wires and bars and the such going on inside of there. So when you get all of that disconnected there's a weird white plastic panel, now this thing doesn't look to intimidating, and it's really not a problem, the problem is the glue that holds it on, it stretches when you pull the plastic off and gets everywhere, then it drips for some reason. So peel that bad boy off of there and take a look at the actuator, yeah its pretty far back in there, no worries though, i'll talk you through it. on the outside of the door there's three bolts, go ahead and undo those. lefty loosy. so now that you have that done place the q-tips in the alcohol, make sure to get them super saturated. now stick them in your eye. its best to be blind durning this part. don't worry you can't see anything back there anyways and it just makes things more frustrating anyways. go ahead and take a few swigs off that bottle as well, to fix that vision problem. now theres four bars connected to the auctuator, one goes to the inside door handle, one goes to the outside door handle. and the other two were installed to frustrate you. have fun tring to get them off of there. i hope you rolled your window up. if you didn't don't worry.
Tool you will need
boot
install boot into side of door. there that pesky window should be gone now.well if you got the actuator off then good for you. did you ever play those mind puzzles when you were a kid. like get the star shaped object out of the metal ring, you kind of have to manuver it just right and it can take a couple of days. well pulling the actuator out is like that. except you have a couple of poky bars cutting your hands all up while you do it. if you get it out thats great, i hope you work in a safe neighborhood. if not dont bring anything valuable to work because getting the new actuator in will take about a week of your time. best of luck to you.

What would cause a fault in the ABS system in a 1998 Dodge Durango?
The speed sensor is the last thing i would replace outta the three. You have to replace your front hubs. they are easily done. Three bolts and a hammer to pop the old bearing out. The new hubs come with a new abs sensor. they are roughly $150-$200. I recently did mine and was finished both in an hr and half. The book calls for 2.5hrs.
Can the four wheel drive be changed while moving?
On my 1995 I can change from two wheel drive to 4x4 automatic/or back to two wheel drive when I'm moving. Ford warns not to switch to 4x4 auto when your back wheels are slipping. If I want to use 4x4 low, I have to come to a complete stop, hold my foot on the brake pedal, shift to neutral, then select 4x4 low and then put automatic transmission back in gear.
How much should you ask for your 98 V8 Durango with 180000 miles?
According top Kelley Blue Book (KBB.COM), in good condition with a 5.2l (318 CuI) V8 engine and all the standard options, in a location in the midwest, the price to list it for a private sale would be $3245.00. The trade in value at a dealer would be considerably less.
Why is there a clicking noise in the glove box area on a 98 bravada?

I'm posting and answering this question because it took *forever* to find an online source with the repair to this common problem!
At the base of the 2000 Ford Focus air filter housing, there are four circular "nuts" which the corner bolts thread through to tighten down the top. It seems these can come loose from the plastic "sleeve" which held them secure from the factory -- when that happens, they just spin when you try to remove the bolts and change the air filter. There is very little room around the box to get at the bottom and hold onto them as they spin, and they aren't true nuts with a hex edge so it's very hard to get a grip on them. My first thought was to remove the battery which would allow more access to the front two, but the fuse box is up against the back two so that wouldn't do much good.
Here's the fix... Remove the hose clamp at the top and wiggle the air hose off. There is also a small sensor that just clips onto the top of the housing, and a small hose on the lower left side (it leads into a small compartment with a breather element). When you clear those three things, pull straight up on the air filter housing. It should pull right up and out; don't wiggle it too much back and forth because there are three plastic pieces which extend from the bottom and are loosley seated into rubber gaskets.
Once you pull it out you can get a socket onto the top of the bolt, and some needle-nose pliers or small channel locks onto the rounded nut. I used a good amount of WD40, and found that going tighten-loosen-tighten-loosen a few times was the trick to freeing the bolts up for removal.
Good luck!
Note: if the round nut still spins with the needle nose plier, you will need Vise grips to lock down the nut. In order to get the mouth of the Vise grips around the nut, use the needle nose plier which failed earlier to break the gussets that are molded into the box which flank both sides of the nut. Make sure the teeth of the vise grip bite into the nut (parallel to nut, perpendicular to bolt).
