What are possible causes of a misfire in third cylinder on a 1997 Dodge Intrepid?

The last two weeks have been trying! My 2.7 engine suddenly started misfiring very, very badly on multiple cylinders......posible cause.....coil, plug wires, plugs, and others like a vacume leak per Auto Zone......Readjusted the plugs (had only 10,00 miles on them) and replaced the plug wires ( 1 hundred thousand miles on them) after putting on a new coil and still having a small misfire (a major inprovement on the multiple misfiring when at first I tried a new coil) The misfiring stopped. The engine ran smo-oo-othly. Two days later after about a 50 mile trip on 40-70 MPH roads, the car quit in trafic at about 45 MPH. It would not start. The engine cranked fastly but semed not to fire at all. After being towed, the mechanic could not find a problem because the engine fired right up the next morning....Two days later the mechanic gave it back to me (for only $94 bucks) because he could not scope out a problem. That night the headlight would not come on for about 10 miles then presto! The headlight worked. The running lights never went out. The car still idles perfectly. I pass this on to you only so you may be prepaired for a major search. Auto Zone's first code was misfire on 3rd cylinder.

How do you take out the battery on a 2002 Dodge Intrepid?

Not sure about 2002, but on a 2004 intrepid, you have to take right front tire off. There is a panel in the wheel well that you use to access the battery.

What happens to the motor of a 96 Dodge Intrepid 3.5l when the timing belt breaks at 65 mph?

Edit: The 3.5L Engine is a "non-interference" type engine, meaning that there is enough clearance as to not cause valve damage as a result of a timing belt breakage.

It pretty much self destructs. Any time any timing belt or chain breaks on any gasoline engine at even 10 mph, the engine will sustain permanent damage to the internal parts. The operation of all the parts inside the combustion chamber is timed to operate in and share a very small space. These parts inside each combustion chamber (2-4 valves and 1 piston) have to move back and forth and get out of each other's way with very high speed and strength and flawless timing. One small misalignment of that timing will start a chain reaction that can destroy the motor. The piston slams into the valves, bending them- their trying to pull back cracks the head etc. You'd be lucky if it's just the heads that need replacing.

In my experience you have a 50-50 shot of bent valves on that engine.

Where is the ATF reservoir in a 1993 Dodge Intrepid 3.3L and how do you add fluid?

It is the pan on the bottom of the trans and should have a tube going down to it from the engine compartment on the rear of the engine. The transmission dipstick has a bright yellow handle on it. Find it on the drivers side of the car near the back of the engine compartment. You can add transmission fluid down the tube. Only use ATF +3 automatic transmission fluid. Never Mercon, Dexron or "Universal Fluids". Or else!

How do you install water outlet for 2001 Dodge Intrepid 2.7?

== == == == I got this answer from another website so I Cannot take credit for the answer. I am just passing along good information.

The part came from Advanced auto parts, I believe the number was 48001, the cost was $39.95

This is from the NAPA parts page on the web.Item#: BK 6003245

Price: $37.19

tax and shipping not included What came in the box? Were additional nuts, bolts, sealant, etc. needed for the repair?

The part includes a flange assembly made of two molded parts glued together, two molded rubber O-Rings, a temperature sensor and a blead screw protected in the box in bubble wrap.

I recommend using permatex, in addition to the rubber o-rings because coolant leakes into the bolt holes and out around the bolts.

Make sure the small upper hose is soft and pliable, or it will not seal on the new nipple. A hard hose can als lead to breaking the nipple, it is plastic and very fragile. I elect to replace this hose at the same time a replacing these housings.

---- Special tools needed? Have to remove other parts to reach this one? Any left-hand threads, sharp edges, messy fluids or other pitfalls to avoid?

You must partially remove the intake plenum in order to get to one of the four fasteners 8mm, securing the flange. This is senseless engineering blunder that adds to the otherwise simple 20 minute replacement, the added time anf frustration, potential damage to the intake plenum gasket, and the potential for a call back issue it the plenum does not get sealed.

This job had to be redone because the new flange did not seal, and the new flange did not have an effective glue joint between the plastic housing parts, manufacturing defect. The housing leaked at the bond seam. It also leaked around the base and out of the bolt holes.

Once the damaged part was removed it was observed that the aluminum mating surface had small voids in the casting and poor machining creating the potential sealing issues at the o-ring. I filled voids in the bottom of the flange with permatex in order to make a seal possible.

This is very important - if you look inside the new housing, locate the glue seam located at the step in the housing, this is a leaker potential. With the housing absolutly clean and absolutly dry, use a q-tip and run a thin bead of permatex over the glue joint from the inside of the housing, this will prevent a leak due to manufacturing defects. Water pressure will not overcome the silicone if the bead is on the inside. Let the bead dry completely before assembling.

Another design flaw - The nipples are plastic, the hose clamps are broad and you will need a pair of thin pliers to get to the hose clamps. If you use the wrong pliers, you may apply undo force to the plastic hose nipples and potentially break the housing at the aformentioned housing seam. The uppermost nipple is delicate and care is needed when removing the upper small hose.

Add permatex around the shank of each bolt to ensure you get a seal in the bolt holes, the design of the flange allows the potential for coolant to bypass the o-rings and exit through the bolt holes.

How do you replace a map light bulb on a 1999 Dodge Intrepid?

Yesterday, I replaced the driver's side map light in my own '99 Intrepid. There are two metal clips that have been snapped into place on the top (hidden) side of the map light fixture. Grab either side of the fixture and pull down. (Use your fingers if you can and try using your knuckles as a fulcrum on the interior ceiling to avoid pulling down too far. The metal clips are no more than 1" in length.)

Once open, you'll see both lights snapped in. Dislodge either by pinching the plastic on either side of the bulb. Once open, replace your bulb and reassemble.

Finding a #192 bulb though might be your most difficult challenge. I wound up ordering one from an auto supply store for $1.49 plus tax.

Good luck!

I was wondering this also and just did mine. YES, you have to grab the entire light assembly and pull down, as there are 2 of those metal-into-plastic clips that hold it in place. Then just unsnap the socket(s), change the bulb(s) and snap back in.

I think the bulbs are 194 types, which are all over most stores, even Walmarts. 194LL is a longer life replacement.

How do you replace water pump on 97 dodge water pump?

For the true "do-it-yourselfer", the easiest way to find info on your car's maintenance is to purchase a total care manual from Chiltons. You may find these books at your local part dealers e.g. "Autozone, Advanced Auto Parts" or even your locally owned parts houses carry them. The books are make and model specific so a little searching may be in order. These books are an invaluable source of info for the person who doesn't mind getting their hands dirty. One tip, if you have never changed a water pump, use the approach that new machanics are taught. After purchasing you replacement water pump, set the new pump on a medium size box and draw an outline of the pump on the box. Don't forget the bolt holes. As you take off the old water pump stick the bolts through the diagram of the pump on the box and that way you know where every bolt should go when you start to reassemble.
