P1404 code is for the EGR valve closed position fault. Usually what happens is carbon builds up inside the valve and hold the valve open slightly. General Motors has come up with a reflash of there computers to fix this problem which there software allow the valve to snap close several times before closing permanantly, this breaks off any residue on the valve pintle. It is possible that Dodge has come up with the same idea to fix there problem. If not the valve will have to be removed and cleaned. There also is a fix if you have a scan tool that might work which is to remove the connector to the valve, with key on clear the codes and as soon as codes cleared is posted turn the key off before it can reset. Re- connect the valve and start the car, this forces the computer to assign a new closed valve voltage.

-Buy 6 quarts of 5W-20 motor oil and an oil filter -Using a drain pan placed underneath the oil pan, remove the drain plug using a wrench (use a crescent because sometimes socket wrenches can get stuck), the drain plug faces towards the passenger side - Let the oil drain into the pan completely, it is best to let the engine warm a little bit so the oil is less thick and drains easier, be careful though cause it gets hot -Once all the oil is drained, replace the drain plug and move the pan further up towards the front. There is a black plastic channel under the oil filter that channels the oil out. - Unscrew the oil filter using either a specialized oil filter wrench, or by poking something sharp through the oil filter and using it to torque it and loosen it enough to take off by hand. (This part is a pain because the placement of the oil filter is extremely difficult to get to) - Replace with the new oil filter and hand tighten, being careful not to tighten too much. - Wipe all the old oil off the channel with shop towels - Remove the oil cap under the hood and using a funnel, put 6 quarts of oil in. - After all the oil is in, use the dip stick to make sure you have the proper level then your good to go.

There's a potential that your alternator may have a failing voltage regulator, or may not be producing proper voltage. Take it to a repair shop for dynamometer testing. What the shop will do is connect the alternator to a bench, rotate it at a specific speed, and test the operation of the charging circuits.

Another potential is simply that your battery cables are dirty or corroded, or you've got a faulty ground circuit between the engine and the frame/battery.

The former will eliminate the potential for needing a new alternator, the latter is a good way to make sure you aren't experiencing other electrical problems related to poor grounding.
