Function of a spot plate?

A ceramic plate with small wells or depressions built into it, often used for qualitative analysis.

The wells (or spots) are used to perform reactions on a very small amount of materials. These were extensively used in the past for chemical reactions to determine mineral or drug content (for example the treatment of a small amount of solid with an acid to view the bubbles of Carbon dioxide that are given off).

The plate is usually white in color to make the formation of colors easier to see. Some plates are black to make the formation of white precipitates easy to view.

Some labs now use plastic plate for the same purpose.

What is Naphthenic based crude?

Naphthenic based crude oil is a type of oil that contains a higher proportion of naphthenic hydrocarbons compared to other types of crude oil. These hydrocarbons have a cyclic structure, which can influence the oil's properties, such as viscosity and sulfur content. Naphthenic based crude oils are typically lighter and have lower sulfur content than heavy crude oils, making them easier to refine into gasoline and other products.

Write an essay about the importance of chemistry in daily life?

The Importance of Chemistry in Daily Life (by raja unar)

Most people have chosen to write their essay about how chemistry has played an important role in everyday life. I have chosen to ask, how doesn't it play a role in everyday life? The simple fact is that chemistry plays an important role in every person's daily activities from the moment we're born.

So what role does chemistry really play in everyday life? Well, this involvement usually begins first thing each morning. Most people wake up to an alarm or radio. These common household items contain batteries, which make them very chemically dependent. These batteries contain positive and negative electrodes. The positive electrode consists of a carbon rod surrounded by a mixture of carbon and manganese dioxide. The negative electrode is made of zinc. Chemistry plays an important role in the discovery and understanding of materials contained in these and many other common household items. Things like household cleaners and water purification systems are vitally dependent on chemistry. Without chemistry something as simple as scrubbing a toilet without fear of severe burns or small explosions might not be possible.

Next, though it isn't widely known, chemistry is also heavily involved with the manufacturing of things such as makeup and soap. Each time you bathe you are witnessing chemistry at work. Chemicals such as cetyl alcohol and propylene glycol are typical ingredients in the soap used to wash your hair and skin. Without chemistry, these materials (or combinations of these materials) might be hazardous or might not exist. The chemical coloring agents used in makeup and nail polish would not be possible without an understanding of the chemicals involved.

Almost anything you do during the course of a normal day involves chemistry in some way. The gas and tires in cars we drive, the makeup ladies put on their faces, the soaps and cleaners used everyday, burning wood or other fossil fuels, chemistry is all around you each and every day. The associations are practically limitless. So, as you go about your daily activities, remember to thank chemistry. As my teacher always says, remember, "CHEMISTRY IS LIFE!"

What is the importance of chemistry in our lives?

Chemistry is a part of Physics. It's the study of electrons and how they move. Although it is more complicated than that, that is the basis on which the subject revolves around. Chemistry is basically the study of what makes up everything which results in biology.

What is the coeiolis effect and how does it affect or cause a hurricane?

The Coriolis effect is the result of the earth's rotation having an effect on things on it's surface most notably wind and water. This effect can produce the starting winds for hurricanes and keeps them from moving towards the equator.

Debate on -Nuclear energy boon or a ban?

Nuclear energy can be seen as a boon as it provides a reliable source of low-carbon electricity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. However, nuclear power plants pose risks of accidents, nuclear waste disposal issues, and the potential for nuclear weapons proliferation, leading many to argue for a ban on nuclear energy in favor of cleaner renewable alternatives. Ultimately, the debate revolves around weighing the benefits of nuclear energy against the potential drawbacks in terms of safety and long-term environmental impact.

What is a complete essay?

A complete essay has a clearly stated thesis statement, a full introduction to help the reader get a sense of the topic, some paragraphs to prove the thesis, and a conclusion to wrap the essay up.

What can you say in a short essay on global warming?

It's always good to start with the definition of the topic and then tell the causes of global warming and suggestions for stopping it and then end it by making people aware of what may happen if it is not caught in time.

What is identity Diffusion?

"its basically when someone has a personalitydisorder or an identity disorder..at least that's what i read about"

This is completely incorrect. What you are talking about is DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) Identity Diffusion is part of the identity crisis that all teenagers go through. It is a theory by James Marcia.

Identity Diffusion is when the individual does not care to find their own identity.

Short note on fragmentation?

Starvation is similar in effect to http://www.answers.com/topic/deadlock-game. Deadlock occurs when two programs each hold resources the other needs to finish, and neither is willing to give them up. Starvation occurs when one program holds resources the other needs, but is unwilling to give them up.

How do you test to identify a bad resistor?

First you need to know the value of the resistor. Follow the link for a handy resistor calculator

After determining the value of your resistor simply test the resistor with an ohmmeter to see if it is at true value. General use should be within + or - 5%

Compare and contrast a term contracts' renewable and convertaible features?

Renewable means as long as you pay the premiums you will always have the policy. Convertible means you can convert your policy to perm without further evidence of insurability. This should be under Life Insurance questions.

What does a paper mussel look like?

A paper mussel, also known as a paper piddock, is a type of bivalve mollusk with elongated, thin shells that resemble sheets of paper. The shells are often white or pale in color and have a delicate, papery texture. Paper mussels are commonly found burrowing into soft sediments along shorelines.

What are the potential harmful effects of lasers?

Lasers produce a strong beam of light. If you understand that light is energy then you will understand that a laser delivers energy to a point where the beam strikes.

That energy can be weak - most domestic lasers are very low energy - and is only dangerous if focused on your retina. Like looking at the sun, looking directly at a laser can burn little permanent scars on your retina. Running it over your fingers does nothing.

Commercial lasers are another story. Powerful lasers are widely used for cutting steel plates in the same way an oxy-acetylene torch does. Those lasers would cut your hand off as quickly as a butchers saw.

And military lasers are big-brothers of the commercial ones. They are designed to cut holes in orbiting satellites at ranges of thousands of miles. Powerful indeed.

How can the role of physics be improved?

If this is a marketing question, what is arguably the best way to improve the role of physics is to increase the public awareness of it many applications in daily life. We engineer the heck out of all kinds of things we use. Buildings, vehicles, electrical and electronic products and even the things we wear (which are manufactured using applied physics in a number of forms) are things to which physics has contributed in large part. We don't give much thought to the water supply, the effluent drains, the power grid and such - until they go on the fritz. We take for granted a number of things physics (in its cloak of engineering) has brought to us. Perhaps with more awareness and appreciation, we'll get more students of physics. We'll be able to "push the envelope" and create even more new and exciting things than the cell phones (with GPS) and laptops we take for granted. Or the society in another country will see these things and it will be them that takes the lead into the next evolution of advanced materials, higher tech devices (medical imaging products, nanobots) or higher quality lifestyles.

Compare Convection and conduction?

Convection and conduction are both means of heat transfer involving materials.

Convection usually occurs in liquids and gases. Heated parts of these materials expand and become less dense. Pressure from the cooler, less light parts (due to gravity) pushes the lighter heated parts upwards. Near the surface , these cool, sink and circulate upwards again when heated.

Conduction can occur in all substances but most efficiently in solids like metals where the particles are close together. If the particles in one part vibrate more when heated to a higher temperature, this vibration is passed along through the material. Conduction can occur in any direction but always from the hottest towards the coolest parts.

Compare and contrast conduction and convection?

Conduction is the transfer of heat through direct contact between materials, while convection is the transfer of heat through the movement of a fluid (liquid or gas). Conduction occurs in solids and liquids, while convection occurs in fluids. In conduction, heat transfer is slower but can happen in any state of matter, while in convection, heat transfer is faster but is limited to fluids.

What size breaker and wiring should you use for an electric range with standard elements?

For USA, Canada and other countries running a 60 Hz supply service.

(LIFE SAFETY WARNING! [disclaimer]

Electricity is dangerous!

You can be injured or killed!

Improper installations can cause fire, injury and death!

Check NEC Table 220.55

The minimum circuit size for ANY electric range is 40 amps.

Circuit size depends on the nameplate rating of your range!

The Authority Having Jurisdiction has final say.

ASK YOUR INSPECTOR!!

<><><>

Ok where should we start? What is the total amp draw for the range? What plug and receptacle do you need? What size wire will safely carry the total demand of the range? What is the minimum size breaker that will protect everything? Can the service box handle the extra load?

There is a reason Electricians do what they do, they don't have to use the Internet ask such a basic question.

<><><>

If you had to ask this question here you need to learn more about your local wiring code re all the items you must use for a new household AC power range circuit.

Serious home fires can result from incorrectly installed new circuits.

So that the new installation is safe and legal - and complies with the terms of your home insurance policy - you must use the correct type and size of cable, the correct type of circuit breaker and the correct type of wall outlet.

From the local wiring code, a licensed electrician will know which size of wire to use because the answer depends both on the current to be carried (amps) and on the length of the run from the breakers on the main supply panel to the place where the outlet for the kitchen range is to be fixed.

<><><>

As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed.

Before you do any work yourself,

on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances,

always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.

IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOB

SAFELY AND COMPETENTLY

Is a cycloalkyne is possible?

Yes, a cycloalkyne is possible, but cycloalkynes generally do not exist due to bond angle strain. The C-C-=-C-C alkyne chain is very linear, so only when the number of carbon atoms is great enough to provide the necessary flexibility can a cycloalkyne exist. The smallest cycloalkyne that exists is cyclooctyne. (from: britannica-dot-com/science/cycloalkyne)
