Why can't porcelain veneers and crowns be bleached?

The brightness of a tooth is a function of how light is reflected off the enamel. Whitening agents work by dehydrating the enamel, that is, by removing moisture on a molecular level from within the enamel. This increases the amount of light that is reflected off the tooth, and therefore it makes them appear whiter. There is no indication at this time that this is harmful to the teeth in the long term, however, some people will experience an increase in temperature sensitivity when they whiten their teeth. Porcelain crowns and tooth-colored fillings do not bleach because the agents cannot remove moisture from them as they do with natural enamel. Over time, the moisture will return to the enamel, and the whitening process will have to be repeated to maintain the new whiteness of the teeth.

If you have a small cavity in a baby tooth that still has roots on it should you fill the cavity or pull the tooth?

The best thing would be to have a filling put in the tooth. But if the tooth is going to fall out soon, the dentist may recommend pulling it instead. Have it looked at by a dentist and then do what you think is best.

Whatever you do don't pull it out yourself. See a dentist its not that bad, honestly..lol

Fill the ToothPulling a baby tooth too early can cause other teeth to move forward and cause misaligned teeth.

It depends on the age of the child and which tooth it is. If the tooth is about to fall out, then pulling the tooth isn't a bad option. Some "baby teeth" stick around until age 11 or 12 or even 13 sometimes, so if it is a young child, pulling the wrong baby tooth could cause severe misalignment. You really need a dentist's opinion on this matter.

If this is an adult patient with a retained baby tooth, and the adult tooth never came in, well they should probably keep the tooth because there is no "replacement" on the way.

How long do you have to wait after a filling before you can eat?

It depends what sort of filling and what anesthetic you had. If it is the tooth-colored one then you are good as soon as the UV light sets it, if you have the silver colored filling then it is best to wait 24 hours to eat on that side of your mouth.

How many people get tooth decay each year?

Tooth decay is a common health problem, second in prevalence only to the common cold. It has been estimated that 90% of people in the United States have at least one cavity, and that 75% of people had their first cavity by the age of five

What do you do when a filling falls out?

Enamel is what protects the tooth, when your tooth needs a filling, it is because that enamel is no longer in that area. As you have no enamel where your filling was, it is highly likely that the hole will get bigger. It's much better to get it filled again to prevent further problems.

Does any dental insurance cover implants?

More frequently than not, dental insurance per se is not an indemnity policy; in that sense it differs from a major medical policy in the way that it functions. Instead, it pays a fixed sum for stated services by a dentist who participates in its plan.

However, in situations where, for example, reconstructive surgery is medically necessary due to an occurrence, and implants are a part of the reconstruction, a major medical policy may pay for the implants. Naturally, any payment would be subject to the terms and conditions of the policy, including deductibles and copayments.

Dr arnoldo portillo in progreso Mexico?

The man and his staff are fabulous. My husband has had four root canals and crowns done there over the years and they have never caused him any trouble later. Now I am going down next week for a root canal. Dr. Portillo does not do the root canal part...he brings in a specialist or sometimes has a specialist on staff, but you can bank on his work. He has never, ever tried to run up a bill on us like another dentist in Progresso did. When we went to another guy, he told us that the three of us who were there together all needed 5, 6, or 7 fillings. We all then went to our USA dentists and not a one of us had a cavity. we didn't go to Portillo that day because we didn't have appts and he was too busy.

How much should tooth crowns cost?

As a practicing dentist in SW. Florida, I'd say about $650 to $1100 for a dental crown. Some of the difference in price depends on the type of crown used. Mostly it just depends on the investment the dentist has in his/her business and their dental philosophy. For instance, a "high tech" dentist may have invested several hundred thousand additional dollars in their office, equipment, continuing ed., staff, etc. Since they need to pay for all these expenses, their crowns will cost more. A smaller modest office with basic equipment etc will be able to charge less due to lower overall expenses. If you want to have treatment in a state of the art office with new equipment and the latest technology on the market, expect to pay more. My philosophy is to provide services at a reasonable price, so my office doesn't have all the bells and ringers that many dentists have. You won't find lasers, digital xrays, intraoral cameras and such in my office. This is just a matter of philosophy. Patients need to shop around, to find what type of office they feel comfortable with before they commit to treatment. The cost of the crown has no relationship to the quality of the treatment, just the variety of choices available.

Why is your teeth yellow?

The yellow may be staining, she might not be brushing them too well(like most kids). Make sure she is brushing with a soft bristle brush twice a day, at least, and for one full minute at least. Most kids brush for 20 seconds and the bristles aren't really coming in direct contact with all the surfaces of all their teeth.

4 What material were George Washington's false teeth carved from?

Washington wore many partial and full dentures over the course of his life, but contrary to popular belief, none were made out of wood. Instead, they were made from ivory, lead-tin alloy, copper alloy, silver alloy, real human teeth, and probably cow and horse teeth, too.

Dentures made of wood weren't common in his time, and although his false teeth were very uncomfortable, they were also fairly advanced for the late 18th century. The wooden teeth myth probably stems from the fact that as the ivory dentures were used and stained, they developed a grainy look, possibly being mistaken for wood.

Unfortunately, the real human teeth he used were likely purchased from slaves, and they didn’t really have the option to refuse the purchase.

Where can you see George Washington's false teeth?

Four remaining sets of George Washington's teeth are known

George Washington Gallery inside The Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry

New York Academy of Medicine

Mt. Vernon Visitors Center

Royal London Hospital and Archives and Museum.

What is dental care?

dental care is complete care of the oral cavity (the mouth). dental care is more than the teeth it is making sure the Gums in your mouth are strong and still doing their job by bocking bacteria from getting into your blood stream and the teeth should be strong with enamel with no erosion or bacterial infections (cavities) and overall plaque should be cleaned out and reduced to prevect bacterial infections. plaque leads infection. its a thick coat of bacteria collecting on the tooth and eventually starts to eat into teeth and into the gums without it being controlled it can eventually eat into the gums and teeth and get into your blood and immediately begin flowing to your heart and cause heart complications. this is the importance of dental care. sometimes it is looked away from but without dental check ups you are only hurting yourself more and setting your self up to very more serious matters. if a dentist (such as myself) catches a small cavity and fills it: its not such a big deal. But if you ignore it and let the cavity keep eating into your tooth and eventually hit your blood line and affect your heart then you have caused yourself a major problem that could of all been avoided in a 30minute filling. So yes dental care is a very important feature to your over all health and should be looked into every 6 months.
