On the 4cyl Contour it is under the resonator (that big black hollow box across the top of the engine). If you loosen the hose clamps on each side of the resonator you can push it back to clear the mount and then lift it up pivoting on the hoses. Careful, there is a sensor on the bottom and you'll have to help it clear the hose under it. The temperature sensor comes straight up from the thermostat housing. Follow the hose from the top of the radiator to find the thermostat housing.

Check the brake system and the cv boot system. The pulling is the alignment and the popping noise is either metal or air being compressed somewhere.

How do you remove driver door panel on a 1997 ford contour?

Start removing panel by removing the 6-phillip headed screws found on the front, rear, and bottom of the panel. Some screws have a plastic covers over the screwhead. Just pop them off if so equipped and remove the screw. There may by one larger Phillips screw located toward the front of the panel about 2/3 rds of the way toward the bottom that is under a small plastic cap.

You need to make a mental note as to what screws were removed from what section of the door to reassemble later. Label a zip lock bag for each type of screw and area found to keep things straight later.

If the car is equipped with power mirror the defrost vent cover will need to be removed from the door. The wiring connector for the mirror I think is under the panel, but the vent cover will need to be removed to release the top of the door panel.

The door pull handle will have two screws under the plastic cover. Remove the cover by placing a very small flat screwdriver into the square hole located on the bottom front and push down on handle. It should start the cover removal. I used a pick tool, that came with the soldering gun kit,to help pry the cover loose.

The door handle latch assembly has two Phillips head screw, one toward the upper left under a plastic cap and one toward the back bottom. You'll have to pull on the handle to get the screwdriver in positon to turn the screw the lower right corner of the black handle assemble. The door handle cover will need to be removed for the removal of the panel. If you pull on the panel you will break the door handle cover. There is a plastic catch at the rear of the black door handle assembly theat holds the handle cover. You must release this from the door handle assembly in order to remove the door handle cover. Once you have the door handle cover free you will have to remove the switch connector from both the door lock and the power window.

Once all of the screws are removed you can pull the panel away from the door. The door panel is locked into the bottom of the window opening, just push up on the panel and it will be free. Pull the switch connectors through the holes in the panel.

Why would you need to remove the gears unless they are broken? I hope you're not trying to take them off to replace the timing belt!

If you need to get them off, you need to keep in mind that they are pressed onto the cams... There are a few bolts, but you'll also need a pulley or gear removal tool. (Check your local auto superstore)

Be careful! Without the gears on, even though the cam is keyed to the gear, if you spin the cam, you could completely screw up the timing... I believe that Mazda engine in your contour is a zero-clearance engine, which means if you were 180 degrees off with one of your cams and started the engine, the valves would smash into the pistons and cause you a world of headaches.

I a guessing that you have a V6 Contour. The P1519, means that the Intake Manifold Runner Control(IMRC) solenoid is not moving when commanded by the PCM. The PCM knows it is not moving, becaus there is a built-in position sensor inside of the IMRC. The job of the IMRC is to shorten or lengthen the air flow passages into the intake manifold at the right times for maximum performance, by opening and closing ports inside of the intake manifold. These passages are moved by a cable attached to the IMRC that moves butterfly valves on shafts that run through the center of the intake. You can see the cable which will be attached to a lever and a shaft by looking right below the throttle body assembly on the driver's side of the engine. Follow that cable, and you will find the IMRC. It may even be bolted to the top of the front valve cover. Cances are you need a new IMRC. But you should clean the air intake manifold with carb cleaner to free up the butterfly valves I described. Sometimes what makes those IMRC assemblies fail in the first place, is heavily carboned up intake runner valves that cuse undue stress on the IMRC.

I don't know about the '98, but I just changed my '95 and it was simple. Just pull out the wiring harness, then get under the resistor with a flat-head screwdriver and it pops right out. Push the new one in and plug in the wiring harness. Bam

On a 98 contour underneath the glove box you have to pop the clips out and drop the carpet. There you will see the blower motor if you stay if you follow the blower motor housing over to the right towards the firewall you will see a little rectangle piece with 1 or 2 tork head screws just with a plug connected to it. pop the plug off and unscrew the screws and you might have to use a flat head but it will pop right out....mike

In 1999, Ford had a recall program. In some of the affected vehicles, the blower switch or resistor may develop increased resistance which could potentially prevent the blower from operating on some speeds.
