How does the front wheels lock in on a 1996 GMC 4x4?

If it doesn't have manually locking hubs on the front wheels, It means it's a "constantly" locked front 4x4. You don't have to lock them, they already are.

After replacing the master cylinder on your 1996 Ford Aerostar the warning lights on the dash stay lit what is the problem?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Your brakes need bleeding. And if you have antilock brakes, you should take it to a shop to bleed them. It takes special tools to bleed antilock brakes. If you have regular brakes you can bleed them yourself. Could go into further detail but would take too long to explain. Refer to a repair manual.

Note: bleeding antilock brakes without first disconnecting the sensor will damage the sensor and the antilock function will no longer work (learned the hard way, unfortunately).

Will 17 inch tires and rims from a 2007 silverado fit on a 2000 silverado with 16 inch tires and rims will it screw up speedometer reading?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Rims will fit as long as they are the same number of studs and puting 17 inch rims on will not screw up your speedo as long as the tires you use have the same outside diamiter. If they are the tires that came with the original 2007 silverado they will be the same outside diamiter as your 16" wheels and tires

You can also adjust for larger tires on the speedometer with a hypertech controller.

How do you flush the antifreeze on 1991 f-150?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Ethylene glycol is biodegradable and is harmless when flushed down the toilet in relatively small amounts. Maybe that's not what you mean: if you want to flush the radiator, I usually open the petcock on the radiator, remove one heater hose from the thermostat housing area and backflush the heater core with a garden hose. This will usually get most of the antifreeze from the block. Allow to drain, close the petcock and refill with about 2 gallons of 100% antifreeze. Top off the rest with water if needed.

How do you remove the lift-gate handle cover?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I recently found it necessary to replace '''the rear hatch door '''latch assembly. It had broken and '''there was no way to open '''the rear hatch from '''the inside or outside.

'''The 2001 '''Sequoia sold in 2000 had 89,000 miles and was maintained well. It looks like this plastic part that failed is just a weak design and most or all will fail at some point.

1. You can open '''the rear hatch from '''the outside if you can get '''the small piece of '''the broken lever out of '''the square hole that is on '''the right side of '''the handle grip area. You will need to use a strong piece of wire or a screwdriver type tool with a slight bend on '''the end. '''The lever that pulls on '''the cable that opens '''the '''latch is located above '''the opening in '''the handle grip area, accessed through '''the small square hole. Insert '''the tool that you made and fish around to find '''the cable lever, you will need to have '''the tool pointed up to find '''the lever. Once you find '''the lever pull down to pull '''the lever. Note: make sure that '''the hatch is unlocked or it won't open.

2. If you can't locate '''the lever or can't make it open from '''the outside you will need to do it from '''the inside of '''the vehicle. This isn't fun but it can be accomplished with a little sweat and a few choice words thrown in.

3. You can work from '''the outside of '''the truck at this point, roll '''the rear glass down to give you access. '''The plastic trim pieces on each side of '''the rear glass can de popped off by hand, '''they each have three plastic barbs that hold '''them on. '''Remove '''them carefully and pull straight out to '''remove '''them, this will give you access to '''the large rear piece of plastic trim that covers '''the inside of '''the rear door.

4. '''Remove '''the vinyl pull-strap that is located on '''the rear panel, use a #2 Philips to do this. Now start to '''remove '''the large inside door panel. This panel has '''the rear glass inside rubber anti-rattle blade attached to '''the top of it. (If you were able to open '''the hatch door from '''the outside you can '''remove '''the inside panel by starting at '''the bottom of '''the panel and using a thin blade to lift '''the panel away from '''the door and '''then pop '''the plastic barbs loose, '''then lift it up and off of '''the door sheet-metal.) Starting at one corner, bend out and pull up on '''the panel where it is hooked over '''the top of '''the window opening sheet-metal. It takes a little force to get it started but be persistent, once it is started work towards '''the other end. Once it's loose at '''the top you can reach inside and pop loose '''the plastic barbs that retain '''the panel and '''remove it completely.

5. You now have access to '''the inside of '''the hatch. '''Remove '''the three round rubber grommets, this give you access to '''the '''latch lever that pulls on '''the release cable. Reach inside with a screwdriver push down on '''the lever and you will be able to release '''the '''latch on '''the hatch door and open it.

6. '''There is a white plastic cover covering '''the cable attachment point, '''remove it by pulling down and away from '''the assembly, it clips onto '''the assembly bracket and helps secure '''the cable to '''the lever attachment point. You can now release '''the cable from '''the assembly, '''remove '''the screws holding '''the license plate recess cover and '''the nut holding '''the key cylinder assembly and '''then '''remove '''the cable assembly bracket, (two nuts). Now you can '''remove '''the license plate recess panel and '''the broken '''latch lever assembly that is attached to it as a unit.

7. You can't just purchase '''the ($2.00) plastic piece that broke, '''Toyota will make you purchase '''the entire assembly, $63.00. By '''the way I shopped around and got three different estimates from '''Toyota Dealers, ranging from $280 to $360 to do this job. This first repair took me seven hours because I didn't know what I was doing, I spent 3 hours just attempting to open '''the hatch, I could do it now in about two hours. Dash lights stay on on 98 Honda accord?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I had a similar situation with my 2000 Accord. The brake, battery, and door lights all came on and stayed on. I did a little research online and then called my dealer's service department to verify. There are two possibilities; the alternator or the battery. I could be as simple as needing to clean your battery terminal posts. I popped my hood and found a lovely shade of blue-green coating my connection. I cleaned it off and the lights went out. I probably need a new battery soon, but my lights went off!

How to replace broken passenger handle when door will not open?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have actually loosened the door panel and looked up in there and I wired the functioning pieces together, which worked for several months, but then one day it didn't. I checked on it and this cheap handle, with soft plastic parts (too fragile for my kids)was too expensive to replace (which is simple to do by studying the way it goes in; price I believe was over $40) I've decided to keep wiring mine up for months at the time, and may replace it when I sell. If you have zero skills in figuring mechanical things out, just go to the dealer and pay $100 or so. Personally, I would ask the local police to see if they can open it with a SLIM JIM. Some body shops have these too. Good luck. I actually had to replace the door handle on my 2002 Escape and you literally had to take the door apart to do it...found out the easiest thing to do was go to my nearest salvage yard, where I purchased the entire "guts" of a nearly-perfect door and replaced everything inside...took about a half-hour all together. Otherwise, replacing pieces one-at-a-time will drive you crazy. AND...it costs me a grand total of $25.

Will a 36 inch tire fit on your 16x8 inch rims?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

That all depends on the size of the tire, Is it a 36x12.5R16? If so than it will probably fit, you might want to go with a 16x9.5 inch rim or a 16x10, the R size will tell you the height of rim it's designed for.

Why does the emergency brake light chime stay on on a 1995 Buick LeSabre?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Fluid Level? If you are referring to the red brake light on the instrument cluster it could be for a variety of reasons. The only one that I'm familiar with is the brake fluid level. If the level of brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir is too low it will cause the brake light to stay on and chime continuously. Check the level and fill with the appropriate type of brake fluid (probably DOT3). You may also want to make sure the master cylinder isn't leaking brake fluid as well (this will be easy to tell if the brake light comes back on within the next few days after filling the reservoir)

Why would 2 of 3 brake lights on your 1996 Hyundai Accent stay on even when car is off and parking brake is not engaged?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

After replacing a brake light bulb I found that when you put the headlights on all the brake lights come on as well. Did this happen to you? Does any body know where I went wrong? You have either fitted the wrong bulb, or you have got the correct bulb incorrectly fitted, check to see if the front sidelights illuminate when applying the brakes (obviously with the lights switched off)....recheck the bulb and fitting :)
