Where does the hose that comes out of the back of the water pump go and how do you replace it when it leaks?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I had to look at this question for a minute because you didn't say what year model we are working on or what engine size. But I guess we must have a 1996 or newer model, and we must be working on a 4.6 liter engine. If I am right about what we are working on, the bypass hose you have described, goes through a valley under the intake manifold, and exits at the rear of the engine, where it connects to a heater hose at the firewall. It is partly rubber hose and partly metal pipe, but it is made as one assembly. To access and replace, you must remove the intake manifold. After the intake manifold is moved out of the way you will see it clearly. At the back of the engine, on the right cylinder head, there are two bolts that hold it to the back of the head. There is also a bracket that is held to those bolts by two nuts that are screwed to threaded studs that are part of each bolt, so that you have to remaove the nuts, remve the bracket, then remove the studded bolts, and then remove the bypass hose/pipe assembly, all of this after you have removed the intake manifold.

How do you open a rear door when it is locked on a ford range?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you could open the door when it was locked, there would be little point in locking it.

You'll need to unlock it first.

Some vehicles have rear doors that can only be opened from the OUTSIDE (when unlocked; when locked, they can't be opened from either side). This is to keep children from accidentally or mischevously opening the doors. Usually this behavior is controlled by a switch on the side of the door that can only be accessed when the door is open; if the child safety feature is on, the door can only be opened from outside, but if it's off, then the door works "normally."

How do you check the charging system on a Nissan?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you have a DVOM, test for voltage at the positive battery cable at the battery, not testing at the battery but at the cable, when the engine is running. Now check for power at the battery post with the engine running, should be the same. Next test the battery when the engine is not running, key off, yes, this time testing for voltage at the battery post and cable, should be the same. If all four test voltages are the same, you have a charging system problem. The test at the battery cable when the engine is running should be aprox 13.5 to 14 volts at the cable. One thing to keep in mind, corrosion at the + battery cable can prevent the battery from charging and that's why the test for the charge system when the engine is running is best at the cable not the battery. If you have different readings when the engine is running at the cable and battery post, (the battery test results are the same when running and when not running, but the battery test at the cable is 13.5 to 14 volts) it is probably a corrosion problem. Clean the corrosion between the + battery cable until the voltages are the same at the cable and battery post. This is not a thorough test for the battery condition as you are only checking volts, not amps.

The cheapest way is to just take it to any Autozone , or similar parts stores ! They have the equipment on hand , AND they check it for FREE ! They will be able to tell you if you have a bad battery or faulty alternator . Most of these places are honest and tell you what if anything you nedd to replace . I thought I had a bad alternator a while back . Took it in and tested it . The battery had a bad cell in it .

So no need to buy the fancy equipment . Hope that helps !

Why would the radio in a 1999 Expedition shut off when shifted from park to reverse then go back on when shifted into neutral then shuts off when shifted into drive?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It sounds like you have the typical Ford radio problem. You're lucky if the behavior isn't completely random.

This guy claims to have the solution for $20.

http://www.shareamemory.com/radio/

It requires some soldering, so it's not for the weak at heart. I've yet to try it.

AnswerI had the exact same problem in my 1999 Expedition, The cause was a leak in my windshield. The water dripped down the post and into the fuse box. Check the fuse box to see if water damaged. I had the wind shield replaced along with the fuse box The problem is now corrected.

What would cause your 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis steering to wonder or be loose?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

(Licenced Technician) -- Loose steering / wander can be caused by almost anything; bad alignment to worn steering linkage to bad balljoints to broken springs, worn steering gear, incorrect tire pressure (too high or too low), worn / mismatched tires, even wear in the steering column can cause this. In extreme cases, I have seen vehicles that would not drive properly, even with a front end that was 100% and an alignment that was all in spec. It turned out the vehicle's frame was still damaged after an accident. I would strongly recommend getting this professionally checked; a 1994 GM likely still has original (read: non-greaseable) front end joints and are likely getting play in them. .

1999 expedition has miss at low RPM?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The 4.6 and 5.4 engines are famous for bad plugs and coils. You will need to either have a shop diagnose the problem, or you if you can recreate the issue and the MIL light flashes, the computer will tell you which cylinder is the problem. You could check each coil for resistence, should have about 5.5 ohms from the B+ connector to the end of the coil (where the plug goes). Anything less than about 5.3 ohms will likely cause you problems. Normally, just doing the plugs willc lear the problem if you are not getting a full misfire and your MIL light flashing
