I used to drive mine over 500 miles from DC to Columbia SC and it would idle high once I finally stopped. A guy did something to the throttle to loosen it but....the solution is the idle air control valve. Its right in front of the windshield wiper fluid. Its as easy as replacing the TPS which is two bolts holding it on but make sure you get the right TPS and a Motorcraft idle air control with gaskets. If you dont you might have the same issues again. Easy to replace if you have a socket wrench.

Before bleeding the master cylinder, you must first intall all parts so that you can hook up the master cylinder as soon as it has been bled. The best thing to do is get a manual for your vehicle that explains the do-it-yourself techniques because it will have pictures to go along with the directions.

the fuel filter is located on the right side on the passenger side its this little metal thing looks grey and has two hoses one on top of it and one on the bottom of it and this ring holding it with one screw this is how u check it if it still works take it out of the car then drain all of the gas out of it then blow thru it the air u blow thru it should blow right thru if not u have to replace the fuel filter this filter is cheap its like 8 dollars at auto zone

You can fit the remanufactured 18 liter Ford engine in the 1989 Tempo. You can also choose the 3.0 liter SHO engine that was found in the Escort at about the same time.Ê

One is inside the trunk which is a manual pull cord. The power release is inside the glove box.

On my '89 Tempo, heater controls are held into the dash kinda like how the radio is held in. Since I don't know of a tool to remove the heater controls like the one for the radio, I stuck something into each hole to hold back the clip. A bit of wiggling and I had it out.

I know this is going to sound really dumb to you but the way I tought my children to do rear brakes is to take BOTH rear wheels off and do ONE side at a time so you can look at the side you havent done to see how they go. You cant go wrong as long as you remember the short shoe ALLWAYS goes on the front and the long shoe goes on the rear. Ray

The heater core is above/behind the air outlet for the floor. The heater core can be tricky to get out and take a bit of time and patience. Be sure it's the heater core before you take on this task. It will save you a lot of frustration. If your car gets hot but you still blow cold air when temp setting is in hot then you have either low coolant, a stuck thermostat, or a blocked heater core. If your interior floor is damp near the center front of the floor, then you most likely have a leaky heater core.

A modulator valve is located inside the case, in front of the modulator.

you need to remove the entire steering knuckle and have a machine shop press out the hub and bearing for you.

I have a later Topaz, but it should be the same....It is a pretty clean job. Simply sit in the car, put your foot under the clutch pedal, & it will pull towards you slightly, you may hear a click. Depress the pedal to the floor, & your done. It may take a couple of 'adjustments. If nothing happens, you're out of room for adjustment.

The only one inside the vehicle is in the trunk itself, it is an emergency release latch. There is no button or latch in the car. To open the trunk either unlock all the doors with the keyless entry or the button on the door and hit the button on the trunk above the license plate. You can also hit the trunk unlock button on the key and then hit the button above the license plate to open it.

Please note the below info is based on a 1994 Tempo but I'm 90% sure they were all this way in the 90's. 1.on the left and right of the cluster trim you will see a small piece of black plastic.they are right next to the steering column at the 3 and 9 position one is directly behind the ignition switch the other behind the turn siganl switch.pop those off carefully.2.remove the center lower section of the dash right under your steering column.should be held on with 4 screws.3.with that out of the way you will see a large piece of metal which is held on by four bolts.2 down low and two behind the plastic pieces you removed at the start.4.with the bolts removed carefully pull that dash support down and out of you way.it has sharp on the edges so use caution.this will provide the path to the switch5.the switch is held in place by the black bezel on the outside of the dash right behind the knob iteslf.turn the bezel counter clockwise to loosen.Please note that the bezel is the only thing holding the switch to the dash so be careful not to break it or you may be taking a trip to a salvage yard.7.here is where it gets interesting.the knob and bezel will not got through the hole so you have to get a small screwdriver and get back around to the switch rod release on the switch itself so the switch will go behind the dash while the bezel,knob and rod will come off from the front.for this you will have to climb under the dash and look for the slot in the switch I'm mentioning.once you have released the switch rod the rest is self explanitory.now if you are unable to find the slot I'm refering to you can pull hard enough on the knob and the switch will let it loose but that can cause breakage.if it is the original switch and you are sure that is what the problem is the switch rod may pop out with not much pressure at all.Hope you find the info useful.

The most common reason for a speedometer to fail is a broken speedometer cable. Loosen the nuts on each end of the speedometer cable. Remove the speedometer cable retaining clips. Reverse the process to install the new speedometer cable.

The cooling fan relay in your Tempo has been integrated into the CCRM (Constant Control Relay Module) this is the black box fixed to the de left strut tower with the big cable harness on it.

This relay box is commanded by the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) it´s linked to every sensor in the car. (It's located behind the fuse panel next to the steering column.

The PCM supervises various conditions, including the signal that the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor sends and power up the Fan Relay into CCRM to activate the Cooling Fan.

I suggest to check ECT an replace it if necessary. If you're sure it works, then check al cables and harness in PCM and CCRM. If the problem persist I´m afraid you need to replace one of both of this Modules.

First, I would change the thermostat, easy on these models. Then check it from there. It could also be the water pump, not circulating enough. Could also be a blockage in the hoses or the rad. But, go with the thermostat first.
