NOTE: DO NOT PRY CLIP DOWN MORE THAN ½" INCH AS CLIP WILL SNAP MAKING STORAGE BIN USLESS. 9. How do you replace the serpentine belt on a 1992 Ford Thunderbird?
1- You will need to disengage the negative battery cable prior to proceeding. This way the fan will not injure you if it should start unexpectantly.
2- Locate the tension wheel. This will be on the left side of the engine incorporated in the serpentine loop. There is a nut on this wheel. Use an appropriate size closed [or box end] wrench or a medium to large socket handle with the appropriate size socket and place on the nut.
3- Pull up on the wrench to relieve the pressure on the belt. There is not much room here so be careful and patient with yourself.
4- Pay attention to the path the belt takes around all the wheels. Note that some wheels are ribbed and some are smooth. The belt will ride with the rib side down on the ribbed ones. There should be a diagram on the frame near the front of the engine compartment.
5- I found that it is easier to remove the exhaust hose from above the serpentine for easier access.
6- With the tension released you can remove the belt.
7- Be careful when letting go of the wrench to get the new belt. The tension wheel has a strong spring inside it that can injure you.
8- Begin to loop the belt in the correct path leaving the smallest very top wheel for last. This wheel will be a smooth wheel that he belt will need to pass under. I found that this is the easiest wheel to reach while placing the belt back on.
9- Again pull up on the tension wheel as far as you can with one hand while you move the belt under the last wheel.
10- Prior to releasing the tension wheel, make sure that the belt is still in all the groves and around all other smooth wheel where appropriate.

Where is the radiator drain plug locate on 2002 Ford Thunderbird?
2002 t/bird cooling drain pug location
I just replaced this myself on my '90 SC. It's above the gas pedal & a rather large black box (about 2" square) & a pain to remove. I had to order mine from the local ford dealer for about $50, got it popped it right in & the intermittent flashers worked just like they should. It may say hazard unit on it, I can't remember exactly.
The brake lines are 3/16", the fittings are metric a 131 mm wrench to get them off. These lines use a bubble flare, so pre-flared lines are the way to go. Also there are fittings available that switch from the metric bubble flare to the more familiar 45 double flare, if you just need to replace a section of the line.

How do you install a hood on a Ford Taurus?
Place towels or other cover on windshield to protect.
Open hood, unscrew hood support shocks from ball joints at hood.
Lower supports down toward headlights, out of way.
Raise hood, support against windshield, making sure towels protect glass.
Locate windshield washer hose at lower left of hood. Cut hose as close to hood as possible.
With assistant(s), hold hood vertical and peel back hood seal 3-4" on either side of hood to allow access to hinges.
Loosen 4- 5/16" bolts at hinges (2 on each side), making sure hood is held vertical and to keep weight from transferring to windshield.
Once bolts are removed from both sides, lower hinges towards headlights, out of way.
With a person on either side, lift hood straight up to clear windshield, then flatten horizontal and carry towards front of car.
Next remove the plastic retainers on the old hood where the shocks were screwed into. There is a metal snap ring retainer, pry it loose with a screwdriver or pliers and pull retainers off ball joint on hood.
Transfer hardware to new hood.
Installation is opposite of removal.
Check alignment of hood before full closing, you may need to loosen hinges and tweak hood to align properly.

Do you have to remove your power steering reservoir to replace your 1989 Thunderbird water pump?
I figured it out. You gotta rent or buy a "pulley" to remove the drive belt wheel right in front of the power steering reservoir intstead of that whole thing. There are two more bolts you have to remove in order to remove and replace the water pump which you can't get to unless you remove that drive belt wheel. Once you do that you're almost home free. I did figure out that "while I was down there" I might as well replace the clamps on all my water pump hoses. Justa tip to any out there who didn't already know.

if the fluid in your T- bird has never been changed before... DO NOT change it now unless your ready to pay for a tranny overhaul or a rebilt. The new fluid will (9 times out of 10) cause your seals to start leaking. ask a tranny expert who is not after your business.
