What concentration camp is nearest ramstein Germany?

Natzweiler-Struthof

from wikipedia:

Natzweiler-Struthof was a German concentration camp located in the Vosges Mountains close to the Alsatian village of Natzwiller (German Natzweiler) in France, and the town of Schirmeck, about 50 km south west from the city of Strasbourg.

Natzweiler-Struthof was the only concentration camp established by the Nazis on present-day French territory, though there were French-run temporary camps such as the one at Drancy. At the time, the Alsace-Lorraine area in which it was established was administered by Germany as an integral part of the German Reich.

Natzweiler-Struthof was operational between May 21, 1941 until the beginning of September 1944 when the SS evacuated the camp into Dachau. Its construction was overseen by Hans Hüttig. The camp was evacuated and sent on a "Death march" on early September 1944 with only a small SS unit keeping the camp's operations,[1] and on November 23, 1944, discovered and liberated by American Allies as the first concentration camp in Western Europe.[2] Its system of subcamps is listed in List of subcamps of Natzweiler-Struthof.

The total number of prisoners reached an estimated 52,000 over the three years originating from various countries including Poland, the Soviet Union, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Norway. The camp was specially set up for Nacht und Nebel prisoners, in most cases people of the resistance movements.

The camp holds also a crematorium and a jury rigged gas chamber outside the main camp, which was not used for mass extermination.

Strenuous work, medical experiments, poor nutrition and mistreatment by the SS guards resulted in a documented 4,431 deaths. Among those who died here were four female SOE agents executed together on July 6, 1944: Diana Rowden, Vera Leigh, Andrée Borrel and Sonya Olschanezky. Since the female prisoner population in the camp was small, only seven SS women served in Natzweiler Struthof camp (compared to more than 600 SS men), and 15 in the Natzweiler complex of subcamps. The main duty of the female supervisors in Natzweiler was to guard the few women who came to the camp for medical experiments or to be executed. The camp also trained several female guards who went to the Geisenheim and Geislingen subcamps in western Germany.

Two Royal Air Force airmen (F/O Dennis H. Cochran, and F/L Anthony R. H. Hayter) who were involved in The Great Escape, and murdered by the Gestapo after re-capture, were cremated at Natzweiler.

Among the inmates were also the Norwegian resisters Per Jacobsen who died there, Tor Njaa en route, and Charles Delestraint, leader of the Armée Secrète who died later in Dachau.

63 Sub-Camps

These subordinated camps were located on both sides of the German-French border. There were about 50 subcamps in the Natzweiler-Struthof camp system, located in Alsace and Lorraine as well as in the adjacent German provinces of Baden and Württemberg. By the fall of 1944, there were about 7,000 prisoners in the main camp and more than 20,000 in subcamps.[1]

What was fascism in Germany during World War 2?

Fascism was the governing ideology of Germany and Italy. It was fascist thinking that led both countries to believe that they were right to start the war and that they could win it. A central tenet of Fascism was that they were superior to all other peoples. This sense of innate superiority made it impossible for the German and Italian leaders to accept, or even imagine, that they could lose the war. Thus they kept on fighting long after there was even the slightest hope of even a conditional surrender permitting the survival of their governments. They fought to the very end instead of seeking a negotiated peace much earlier on. This resulted in terrible destruction and devastation of their countries.

How did the Allies handle Germany and Japan after the war?

Both Germany & Japan were restricted on their armed forces, rebuilt with US aid, and in the case of Germany; divided between the Soviets and the Free World. Both Germany & Japan were "rebuilt" to support the US/NATO Forces for the cold war; Japan was rebuilt to support the war effort during the Korean War (1950-1953). During the Korean War, All serious repairs for Jets, Warships, Artillery, Tanks, etc. were performed in Japan. As well as assembly lines to build NEW military vehicles, etc. In essence: Germany became the BASE for Free World operations in Europe during the cold war; and Japan became the BASE for Free World operations in Asia/Pacific during the cold war.

How many betas are in a wolf pack?

Well, normally, the word Beta means second in command.

Like say there is a wolf pack made up of Jeff, Billy, Bob, Joe, Mack, Justin, Jessie, and Jessica.

Jeff is the alpha and Joe is the beta. Jeff can boss around Billy, Bob, Joe, Mack, Justin, Jessie, and Jessica. Where Joe can only boss around Billy, Bob, Mack, Justin, Jessie, and Jessica, he can't boss around Jeff, ever.

That is pretty much the basic meaning of Beta, the second in command.

Why did Hitler declare war on US in World War 2?

Germany declared war on the United States to honor its pact with Japan. Since Japan had actually attacked the United States, Germany did not actually have to declare war. Through the lend-lease program, the United States was also giving support to Great Britain, against whom Germany was at war; so the United States was definitely aiding a country that Germany was at war with.
It was in response to the US declaring war on Japan after the attacks on Pearl Harbor.
Germany & Italy declared war on the United States on December 11, 1941. This was four days after the Japanese began their surprise attacks to start war with the United States & the British Empire (Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada & South Africa).

On 27 September 1940 Japan joined Hitler & Mussolini in a military (cooperation) alliance called the 'Tripartite Pact', or the 'Axis' as it was called in Britain & US. However, Japan is not obligated to go to war with the current enemies of Germany and Italy. The three parties announce that they will declare war on any third party that attempts to enter the war against any one of the three. This is primarily aimed at the United States, to prevent America's entry into the war in Europe and prevent American interference in Asia. Although the Pact specifically excludes the USSR in its relations with Germany or Japan, Hitler's goal is to have Japan join in the war against Stalin when the time comes. Japan will successfully resist these urgings throughout the next five years.

By late 1941, Hitler was eager for war with the United States. This is because the United States (officially a neutral country) had become increasingly more friendly towards Britain and hostile towards Germany, during Hitler's war of aggression in Europe. By May 1940 it became clear to US President Roosevelt that Hitler's Germany was a dangerous threat to the United States, and that the US should do everything possible (short of war) to support Great Britain and her allies in their desperate struggle against Hitler. Most of the outward hostility centered around shipments of supplies & equipment to Great Britain from the United States & Canada across the North Atlantic Ocean. This situation was like a repeat of events during the First World War, where German U-Boats attacked all shipping in the Atlantic destined for the British Isles.

Hitler knew of his ally Japan's intentions to attack the US & Britain, but not when. When the Japanese attacks on the US & Britain were announced, Hitler rushed back to Berlin to prepare a Declaration of War against the US. His declaration also included a statement of solidarity with Japan & Italy and a 'no-separate peace' phrase. He wanted to make this declaration public before the US would declare war on Germany. However, President Roosevelt had no immediate intention of initiating the war against Germany, for practical moral & public relations reasons.

For Hitler's announced reasons for war, see below the actual text of the German announcement of its declaration of war, given to the US Charge d'Affairs in Berlin on December 11, 1941:

"The of the United States having violated in the most flagrant manner and in ever-increasing measure all rules of neutrality in favor of the adversaries of Germany and having continually been guilty of the most severe provocations toward Germany and since the outbreak of the European war, provoked by the British declaration of war against Germany on September 3, 1939, has finally resorted to open military acts of aggression.

On September 11, 1941, the President of the United States publicly declared that he had ordered the American Navy and Air Force to shoot on sight at any German war vessel. In his speech of October 27, 1941, he once more expressly affirmed that this order was in force. Acting under this order, vessels of the American Navy, since early September 1941, have systematically attacked German naval forces. Thus, American destroyers, as for instance the Greer, the Kearny and the Rueben James, have opened fire on German submarines according to plan. The Secretary of the American Navy, Mr. Knox, himself confirmed that American destroyers attacked German submarines.

Furthermore, the naval forces of the United States, under order of their Government and contrary to international law have treated and seized German merchant vessels on the high seas as enemy ships.

The German Government therefore establishes the following facts:

Although Germany on her part has strictly adhered to the rules of international law in her relations with the United States during every period of the present war, the Government of the United States from initial violations of neutrality has finally proceeded to open acts of war against Germany. The Government of the United States has thereby virtually created a state of war.

The German Government, consequently, discontinues diplomatic relations with the United States of America and declares that under these circumstances brought about by President Roosevelt, Germany too, as from today, considers herself as being in a state of war with the United States of America.

Accept, Mr. Charge d'Affairs, the expression of my high consideration."

The United States declared war on Germany & Italy on December 11, 1941, after they had declared war on the US.

Is a fat gay fat?

Nope. The percentage of "fat" gay people is the same as the percentage in the general population!

Why did the Nazis prosecute the Gypsy community?

Many viewed Gypsies to be 'asocial' as they mostly kept to themselves from country to country not adapting to any particular culture. This mostly resulted in Gypsies being segregated from the rest of the population. The Nazis viewed Gypsies to be inferior as well as racially inferior. In camps doctors would conduct test on Gypsies to find a certain 'gene' which proved that they were different.

A scheme like the one Hitler put in place relies on thuggery and intimidation gypsies are a convenient group for his thugs to practice on, as they were only very loosely connected with the local community's and were most definitely looked down upon. Most felt that their areas would be better of without a Gypsies camp nearby messing up the place. and most people were themselves intimidated by Hitlers tactics. keep in mind that the concept of human rights just did not exist in those days. All revolutions are accompanied by intimidation and fear, and this is how Hitler worked.

What percentage of Germany was Jewish?

Using the criterion of at least one Jewish grandparent the proportion of the Jewish population in Germany just before the Nazis came to power was about 1.3-1.4% of the population. Practising Jews were about 0.8% of the population.

Did Hitler get on with his parents?

Hitler's father was a drunken abuser on a continuous power trip, a control freak. He seems to have treated his son harshly. Many such men seem to find weak women who tolerate this sort of life, like Hitler's mother. She loved him, but was powerless to make his life happier, because of his father.

Another term for a city-state is?

Polis, or thate what the ancient Greeks called it. not sure if that refers to ww2.

How did Hitler's commitment to the final solution hinder Germany's war effort?

Yes, but not likely to any significant degree.

The major impacts of the Final Solution were threefold:

(1) occupying approximately 1 division's worth of SS troops for garrison, guard, and other related activities

(2) redirection of rolling rail stock (i.e. freight trains) from carrying war material to carrying Jews to the extermination camps

(3) killing a rather large potential (slave) labor force, rather than make use of their skills in the war industries.

All three of these were very minor hindrances, and did not really influence the outcome of WW2 in any meaningful way.

-----------

While not part of the Final Solution, the pre-war discrimination against Jews in Germany caused a large majority of the educated German Jewish population to emigrate elsewhere, primarily to the U.S. This was probably the biggest influence that Hitler's hatred of the Jews had on Germany's chances to win, as a major section of Germany's best scientific minds were lost to the Allied side.
