How do you change the front brake pads on a 1994 GMC suburban?
Lift the front wheels off the ground and remove the tires. Near the top and bottom of the calipers are the two retaining bolts. You'll need an "allen" wrench to remove them. Once they're turned out they'll be a little difficult to pull the rest of the way, then you need to work the calipers out. Pull the rotors and have them turned or replace them. You'll need to push the caliper plunger back in. Then compare the new brake pads to the old ones, and decide how you'll install them. Then carefully remove the old pads and replace them, using a little of the blue brake adhesive. Then put the whole thing back together. The first time you use the brakes, make sure you have pumped them up, then drive slowly until you've verified that the brakes are functioning properly.

Why did your 1990 gmc suburban die in the middle of driving it and now it won't start.?
I had one that did that and the problem was the electric fuel pump which is mounted in the gas tank. I mean I was driving down the expressway happy as can be one minute and the next second the engine died. No hiccupping, or sputtering, it just died.

How do you check if the fuel pump is bad on a 1999 suburban?
Disconnect the fuel line that goes from the pump to the fuel filter and check for flow - if you get fuel there, the pump is ok. If not, the pump needs to be replaced. If ok, re-connect the fuel line and disconnect the line that comes out of the filter (filter to engine) and checlk for flow. If little or no flow, replace the filter. If filter is ok, reconnect the fuel line and look for an obstruction further up the line. You could also trouble-shoot in reverse by disconnecting the fuel line where it connects at the engine and checking for flow there. Then just work backwards from there.
How do you replace the oxygen sensor in a Chevy Suburban?
The good news is that changing sensors isn't too hard. The bad news is that there are four sensors on the exhaust (two pre-cat and two post-cat-- cat being catylitic converter). The rear ones run about $60 each and the front ones, according to my parts man, are about $120 each.
No special tool is needed, but try to get as much room under the truck as you can. All four sensors are visible and accessible. They are variously screwed into each of the exhaust pipes. To remove, I used a crescent wrench, but I think the nuts (part of the sensor) are 7/8. Find and disconnect the wire connector before unscrewing the sensor. (Note: there is a small clip that must be removed from the connector before you can lift the locking flange.) The new wire connector comes as a part of the new sensor.
From there, simply unscrew the old sensor, treat the threads on the new sensor (with the goop that's included in the box), screw it in, then reattach the wire connector.
This is probably not one of the most professional answers, but I hope it helps.

How do you remove the armrest on a 2001 Suburban?
The arm is held on by a c-clip on the steel post that serves as the hinge and mounting point to the side of the seat. Simply stated, you pop that clip off and pull the armrest out, then slide the new one in and replace the clip. This sounds much easier than it is. In order to get to the c-clip you have to partially remove the seat cover. Reach up under the back of the seat and disconnect the plastic clip that holds the seat cover together at the bottom. Then you have to peel back the cover (mine's leather - a real challenge) until you can jam your hand up far enough to find the c-clip. Don't be afraid to really yank on the leather or fabric...it's tough. An upholsterer could probably do this in 15 minutes. It took me an hour and I was hot and tired when it was done. Good luck!
How do you change the fuel filter on a 1997 GMC Suburban turbo diesel?
First you need to remove the fuel cap, to release the suction from the tank; then you remove the manifold cover, using a 10 mm socket with an extension. Behind the manifold is where the fuel filter is located. Unscrew the black ring that tightens down the fuel filter. Once the ring is removed, grab the paper ring where it says "Pull Here" and begin jiggalling and pulling until the filter comes out. Once you pull the old filter out, replace it with the new on. Be careful to properly align and press the new filter in its place. Now replace the black ring and tighten down. Next, get a 5/16 clear hose and insert it on the black bleeder valve that is on top of the filter you just installed. Place a container at the other end of the clear hose line. Turn the black bleeder valve counter clock wise. Without starting the engine, carefully turn the key ignition on. You'll might be able to hear the fuel pump working. At that moment you will see fuel passing through the clear line. Once you see no bubbles in the line, turn key to the off position. Tighten back up the bleeder valve. Then start you engine. If the engine doesn't start then you may have not gotten all the air out of the system, and now you'll need to take it to your mechanic or dealer. That is it.

Where is the oxygen sensor located on a 2001 Chev Suburban?
UNDER VEHICLE, DRIVER SIDE, BELOW SEATING AREA, MOUNTED IN EXHAUST PIPE IN REAR OF CATALYTIC CONVERTER.
I have a 2001 Suburban 2500 with 8.1 engine, with four original oxygen sensors. Two are located ahead of the catalytic converters in the exhaust headers and two in the tail pipes after the catalytic converters. One went bad (got several check engine - heater error codes), so I replaced all four, because the GM manual and Bosch say the oxygen sensors are good for 100,000 miles (I have 108,000). Decided to go with NTK brand (owned by NGK spark plug company), because some people claim they are more durable than Bosch. Bosch invented oxygen sensors and has made more than any other company. NTK now produces more per year than Bosch (or any other company). Used three NTK P/N 21313 ($59.89 each) and one NTK P/N 21518 (left rear @ $82.89). You will need a 22 mm open end wrench to remove & install. Old sensors were hard to break loose (used hammer and a big box-end wrench as "cheaters"). New sensors went in and fit great to OEM electrical plugs - followed good NTK instructions. Plugs have a funky blue plastic lock pin - pull that first, then lift clip and pull plug apart. Used two zip-ties per sensor to keep wires away from hot / moving parts. Should get better gas mileage now - haven't yet checked. One word of advice - avoid cheaper "universal" oxygen sensors because you have to use the old electrical plugs and splice 4 wires per sensor - all in bad locations.
