How do you bleed the hydraulic clutch on a ford ka?

I think it depends on the model (i have a 1999 KA) but i had a problem where my clutch pedal did nothing and went completely to the floor and i could not select or change gear, after searching through the Internet and various forums the most common answer i found was that the 'bleed nipple' was in the gearbox itself and that its advisable to replace the whole clutch and gear box, a lot of work, time and likely a lot of money.

The first thing you should check is that there is enough hydraulic fluid in the reservoir (i used run of the mill brake fluid), this is the pod second on the right, make sure the fluid level is between min and max and pump the clutch a few times to get the fluid through the system as the clutch pedal also acts as a self adjusting mechanism for the hydraulics. try that first.

To 'bleed' the hydraulics you simply need to remove the air filter and underneath you will see the 'nipple', bleed it and be sure to catch any fluid that runs as it is very toxic (also i advise wearing gloves for this). re-tighten nipple and pump clutch a few more times and if this works for you as it did for me you will hopefully find that your clutch problem is fixed.

Be aware that you may have a very small leak in the pipes somewhere and so you should check your fluid levels weekly.

I'm not a mechanic, i don't know that this will work for you but it did for me so give it a shot.

Good luck. AB

How do you bleed the hydraulic clutch on a 2000 Saturn SL2?

unfortunately Saturn went out on a limb to produce easy swappable parts in their cars. the clutch hydraulic system can not be bleed. it was intended on being replaced as an entire unit, filled with fluid and bleed at the factory. I've made many trips the salvage yards to obtain a entire assembly.

Do you have to replace All the hydraulic lifters AND the Cam shaft if there is only a few lifters that are not working in a 88 2.3L Ranger?

There is no law that says you must replace everything at once. If the cam is still ok, no flat spots and no excessive pitting, just replace the lifters that are sticking. If the engine has a lot of miles on it you'll probably be replacing/rebuilding it soon anyway. Replacing the lifters will just give you a few more miles before you need to get a new engine or a new pickup until something else fails. If you have a flat spot or excessive pitting on the cam, new lifters won't do much good.

Can you mix hydraulic oil and diesel?

With care. The mechanics are interesting. I recently flushed out an old 25 litre drum of hydraulic oil using unleaded petrol. I put in a pint, flushed with the cap on tight, and the pressure rise was massive. The cap blew right off as I released it. Same is true, to a lesser extent as you mix with diesel.
