What is the object or the Iditarod race today?
The object is to have the best time in the race. This race is historical. It shows how man and dog can survive the harsh conditions in Alaska.
Do the horizantal lines on a girl's neck mean she's healthy and why does this occur?
The horizontal lines on a girl's neck are normal.
How is the official finish of the Iditarod determined?
If you mean the official WINNER: The winner is the team whose lead dog's nose crosses the line first. (This is only true if the musher is carrying all their required equipment in the sled.)
If you mean when is the race officially OVER, it's over when the "Widow's Lamp" is turned off. The Widow's Lamp is lit and hung on the Burled Arches (which stand above the finish line in Nome) when the race begins. That lamp remains lit as long as there are mushers on the trail. This goes back to an old tradition of leaving a lamp lit at way-posts along the old dog-mushing thoroughfares. Word would be sent ahead that a team was travelling, and the next way-post would light the lantern and keep it lit as long as there were dogs and mushers out on the trail. This was in part to help the incoming musher find his way - but it was also to remind everyone that there were dogs and mushers out there, driving through the snow and cold and dark, and that everyone should keep a watch until they were safe. The Widow's Lamp remained lit until the team made it in to the way-post, and the Iditarod keeps this tradition, leaving the lamp burning until the very last musher makes it to Nome. The Widow's Lamp isn't turned off - and the race isn't over - until the last musher is safe into Nome.
uh NO ...sorry! In the second test bet, they gave Lonnegan the "shut-out" and he couldn't get the bet down in time on Wrecking Crew, who won all alone. Joe Erie said "Should have had your money on Wrecking Crew!" At the final sting, Lonnegan put half a million on Lucky Dan to win. But Kid Twist said "place it on Lucky Dan" to place- he's gonna run SECOND!

there is an iditarod to honor the serum run in Alaska in the early 19 hundreds. several children were dying from dipitheria in nome, Alaska and they had to get medicine there before it spread and killed everyone. they stationed dogsled teams at "checkpoints" and made it a relay, which in the 19 seventies they made a 1,147 mile long race that had to be completed by one team itself, instead of a relay. the dogs are taken care of properly. this year (2009) Lance Mackey (now 3 time winner) came in first on around march 15. theck out the website, www.iditarod.com. i only know this because my best friend is a real fanatic about it, and I'm the only one willing to sit there and listen to it.
Do they win a trophy in the Iditarod?

Where did the musher Michelle Phillips go to college?
There is not much evidence that she attended college. Most of the reports about her life stress her love of athletics (she was a competitive figure skater as a young adult) and her love of dogs. She was raised in the Yukon Territory in Canada, and she and her husband and son run a wilderness tour company there when she is not participating in dog racing.

it could be... i heard that they kill the dogs if they do not meet or exceed standards. I also read theese facts on the web:
Many of the dogs in the Iditarod suffer from stress, pneumonia, gastric
ulcers, or "Sudden Death Syndrome"--literally running to death. About one
third of the animals must be flown out when they become ill, injured, or
exhausted.
Many of the dogs collapse at the finish line and often cannot rise to a
standing position to eat for days. Jon Saraceno, sports columnist for USA
Today, called the race "Ihurtadog" and "an outrage."
The Iditarod is condemned by animal protection groups across the United
States, led by the Humane Society, because dog deaths and injuries are
common in the race.
Thirty-eight states and the District of Columbia have anti-cruelty laws that
would make the Iditarod illegal because of overworking an animal.
The Iditarod Trail Committee wants people to think of the Iditarod as a
commemoration of the 1925 Anchorage to Nome diphtheria serum run.
However, they don't point out that half of the 1925 serum run was done by
train. Dogs ran in relays for the remaining 500 or 600 miles, with few dogs
running more than 100 miles.
The race has led to the proliferation of husky dog kennels in Alaska, many of
which are substandard. None are inspected by the State of Alaska or any
other agency. Because of this, cruelty to animals is ubiquitous in many
husky dog kennels.
ABC and other major American media are in serious danger of being
accused of being complicit, because it all starts with the immense,
much-hyped Iditarod race.
