How do you fix a oil pan gasket on a 1994 ford thunderbird?

Most vehicles will require that you lift the engine to remove/replace the oil pan. You can usually get enough distance if you just disconnect the motor mounts and lift the engine 6 or 8 inches. You probably won't need to disconnect the transmission, electrical or any of the hoses if you do it that way. Otherwise you'll need to completely remove the engine and that is a bit of trouble.
Not sure about all years, but I have a '97 that I am, in fact, currently working on. You have to drop the exhaust (4 bolts holding a Y-shaped pipe to the manifold). The front two bolts are difficult, but you can get a wrench on them. The back two, however, I have yet to get a wrench on them. Sizes are weird, too. For instance, the front seems to be 23/32 and the rear a 19/32. But I'm not sure -- I'm going to a tool shop now and taking some bolts with me to see if I can match it up. I can tell you the rear bolts will have to be removed with a wobble socket, because there's no way to put a socket straight on them, and there's such limited movement around the nuts that I doubt Hercules could losen them because it would have to be done with the wrist alone. When you get the oil pan off, I do know the gasket must be siliconed in at four locations. Anyway, I would suggest purchasing a good manual on your year of Taurus. And if you decide to do it, be ready to mutter obscenities and get very grimey.

What would cause a slow prolonged shift only from first to second gear in an automatic all time 4wd 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

There are many answers to this one, you will have to go through and look at these to hopefully find your answer. First I am not sure if your talking about an automatic, or manuel Transmission, or maybe your Transfer Case? 1 Check to see if you have enough fluid in your trans. 2 If a Manuel, be sure it is topped off, you might have syncros that need replacing. 3 If Automatic, it may be old fluid, need topping off, plugged filter, bad solonoid. etc 4 If Transfer case, be sure you have the right fluid and topped off, maybe bad sliders inside. There is more, but to much to list, as I would need more info to know the year and engine, to help you out more. I do hope this gives you a start to find the problem.

How do you adjust the serpentine belt on your 2000 jeep wrangler?

I have a 1992 Dynasty with the 3.3 Liter engine. The serpentine belt has a tensioner pulley that is spring loaded... it puts tension on the pulley automatically - if the belt is in place correctly the way it is supposed to go. You probably want to know how to get the belt on or off... I put a box end wrench around the nut in the center of the tensioner pulley. With the wrench over the nut, push back on the other end of the wrench with something long and thin. There isn't much room around that area but I found that a three foot piece of 1 X 4 wood board works well. You should feel the spring tension of the pulley when you push back on the wrench... it will move a couple of inches or so. It might be a good idea to have someone else push back on the wrench while you remove/istall the belt... just easier that way and probably safer too. Anyways, with everything in place correctly, no further adjustment is needed. If you have the serpentine belt off, it might be a good idea to check the idler pulley. The bearings don't last forever... ha! Mine lasted maybe 175,000 miles before it siezed up. The pulley, mounting bracket, new belt and tow truck expense was about $450 at a Dodge dealer. I think the bad bearing did make some noise occasionally before it went out but I ignored it. It finally went out on a cold winter morning on my way to work. Live and learn, I guess. Anyways, try not to ignore warning noises from your Dynasty and it will give you many more miles of fun. Gary... Princeton, MN.

Does a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6 cylinder have a timing belt or timing chain?

Yes it does, both the 4.0, and 5.2 I would change at around 75,000-90,000 miles.

The timing chain should last for the life of the engine. 200k plus.

The PVC valve on a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee ratles?

I assume you are talking about the 4.0L I6. There is always at least a little valve rattle on the AMC inline 6 4.0L engine of all years, even on the later-model engines. This is an inherent feature of the I6 hydraulic valve design. But it's impossible to guage if your valve rattle is serious by reading words in an e-message. If it sounds like just a single valve 'clacking' under the valve cover, you may have a problem and should get it checked out. However, if it sounds like all the valves are tapping a little noisily at idle (like marbles rolling around under your valve cover) it might not be much of a problem. Making sure to use the correct weight motor oil might be good. I use 10W-30 and it works fine on my 1995 (but still has a 'little' clacking at idle). But overall, if it's 'very' noisy (especially at speed) then it would probably be best to take it to a reputable mechanic that is famialiar with the AMC I6 engine and have it checked out.

What do you do when you can't get the hatch open on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I had the same problem. I took mine to the Jeep dealership, they said it was a simple fix and and fixed it for free. temorary trick that works on jeep doors also is to push in on the hatch then pull up on the lever and lift open. it relieves some pressure on the latch mechanism so it ot perates. BODY SHOP guy can fix in 5 minutes, the cable that runs through the lock mechanism has slipped too far up, they will remove the rear panel that has carpet on it & see the lock & fix the cable, very simple!

What would cause the temp gauge to not work on a 93 Ford Taurus Station Wagon?

The first thing that I would check is the wiring and the temp sensor @ the engine. Sorry but I do not know where the sensor is located on the engine. Usually they are not too hard to locate. i would replace temperature sender usual located near front of engine near thermostat housing

How do you remove 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo PCV valve?

Your PCV is located on the left valve cover (nearest the battery ) back near the firewall. It can be removed by hand, you should be able to pull it from the rubber grommet, then pull the rubber hose from the valve. Note that usually rubber wil tend to seal onto parts and require a gentle twist when attempting to disassemble.

What causes a Code P1494 on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Straight 6 40 liter?

The code refers to the leak detection pump that is part of the gasoline vapor control system which is for pollution minimization. It says either that the pump switch or mechanical operation is faulty. You would find the pump, probably on the underside of the vehicle by tracing the hoses related to the vapor recovery tank that may be in the right front corner of the engine compartment (I don't know Jeep designs) and then check to see if the pump starts when you turn the ignition to the run position when the vehicle is cold. Then remove the vacuum hose side of the pump and see if it draws a vacuum. If it does, then the vacuum-detecting switch that detects that the pump operation is OK may be faulty. If the pump doesn't start or doesn't draw a vacuum then the power to the pump, the pump itself, or the vacuum line may be leaky. Finally, the powertrain controller could be at fault. In any case, that is where the issue is, and it should not be a major issue if it is handled by a knowledgeable mechanic.

Fuel consumption on Cherokee?

what is the expected fuel consumption of a jeep Cherokee basic model 'N' reg

as im in the process of buying one

A Jeep Cherokee (XJ) with an inline 6-cylinder 4.0L engine will get 15-18 in the city and 20-22MPG if you are consistent with speed on the highway. For whatever its worth, I've found that the best mileage was at about 63MPH.

There were also 4-cylinder 2.5L engines. I do not know the fuel consumption of that engine, but the 4.0L is superior is (at least) all other aspects.

How do you enable or install daytime running lights on US model 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo?

if they are not on and they are supposed to be then first check ur fuse pannel and be sure that it is a good fuse and if that's not the problem then sometimes the emergency brake causes them not to come on..... so check and see if the E-brake is one click down (it is not enabled at one click) if it is then un-lock it and they should come on

Was your Jeep an American one?If so you will have to take it to the dealer and have it reprogrammed

How do you add freon to 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited?

A 2000 vehicle will use R-134A refrigerant. They make adaptors to inject cans of refrigerant directly in to your system. This is not a good way to do it though. Your system is designed to hold a very specific amount of refrigerant. You should have your system filled by a trained person with the proper gauges, scales, etc... to ensure the right amount of refrigerant is used. A good repair person will also use a vacuum pump to determine if there are any leaks in the system. This is all equipment that is very expensive. This makes filling your A/C system impractical to do at home. You should probably bring it in to a service shop.

Which is the positive and which is the negative terminal on a 01 jeep grand cherokee battery?

On the battery its the post that has a minus sign next to it and the leads from the battery will typically be black instead of red. Another thing to do is to go to your local auto parts store and ask them to show you. They will get a kick out of doing so and you'll not have to ask again.
