What did a boy have to do to become a knight in in the middle ages?

To become a knight, a boy was normally apprenticed to a knight at about age seven. After serving seven years as a page, the boy became a squire, and after seven years as a squire, he could become a knight.

There were other ways a person could become a knight, including performing some very meritorious service to a king or other person capable of elevating a person to knighthood.

What caused the knights and chivalry to become obsolete?

Armour Piercing Arrows such as those fired by English Longbowmen started their decline, Weapons such as pikes and halberds carried it on and gunpowder finished them off. There were cavalry in most countries' armies right up to WWI but the full-plate armoured medieval knight of old was gone well before then

How important was the Church in a knight's life?

There were many different kinds of knights, and the importance of religion varied according to they kind they were and the inclinations of their persons.

There were religious orders of knights, such as the Knights Templar, who were armored monks. They answered to a religious hierarchy, took vows of poverty and chastity, and prayed, just as other monks did. But the Templars slept in their armor (or at least their chain mail), which made it much less comfortable to sleep.

Other orders of knights had various religious duties. But common knights, who were not members of specific orders, were relatively wealthy young men, wealthy enough to equip themselves, who happened to be part of a heavy cavalry in time of war. You can bet at least some of these were not very impressed by religion, though they might not have been willing to admit it.

Did knights depend on lords in the fedalism system?

It's hard to pinpoint a narrow anthropological definition of the feudalism system, so for the purpose of this question I'm going to assume you mean the classic definition of the feudalism system, which was in effect in Europe during the Middle Ages.

In my opinion, the knights did depend on the lords, but the lords also depended on the knights; it was a mutually beneficial relationship. The knights were given the task of fighting for the lord, whether it be defending the estate or attempting to seize other land. In return for their services, the lord would give them land that they could live on and work. The knights were essential to the lords because the knights offered the lords protection from exterior forces.

So yes, the knights did depend on the lords for fief, or land, but the relationship was mutually beneficial if anything.

Is it normal for a 23 year old guy to hate being called sir?

No. I know a lady who doesn't like being called ma'am. She said it makes her feel old. So that's probley why someone doesn't like being called that. Or its because of a personal issue. To me, its polite to call people older than you sir or ma'am. Its a sign of respect. So even though someone doesn't like being called sir, just think that they respect you enough to say 'sir' rather than saying dude, bro, or even buddy.

Do knights fight alone?

Rarely. They mostly fought in groups. Even Medieval tournaments - certainly the ones before 1500 AD - were only partly the one-on-one affairs with the long lances that Hollywood shows us. Much more often is was two groups of knights with blunted weapons hacking away merrily into each other. Those blungeoned to the ground forfeited ransom money (just as in real medieval battles) and being killed or dying from your wounds in a tournament was a common occurrence.

What was the Order of the Hatchet?

The Order of the Hatchet (Orden de la Hacha) is an order of knighthood founded in Catalonia (Spain) in 1149 by the Count of Barcelona, Raymond Berengar IV (Ramon Berenguer IV), to honor the women of Tortola who defended their homeland.

Tortosa had been under Muslim control for centuries when it was taken over by crusaders in 1149, shortly after, the army left for other pressing matters, and a Muslim army showed up, laying siege to the city. Told that they might best surrender, the women of the city instead dressed as men, took hatchets and whatever other weapons they could get, and successfully attacked the Muslim camp, driving the army away.

The women in the Order of the Hatchet were knighted, and had all the privileges of knights. They went ahead of all common men in processions, they were given preferential treatment in meetings, and were allowed to speak. They had been, in fact, elevated to the nobility, as knights. Their status, however, like those of most knights, was not hereditary, and the order was limited to those women who had fought at Tortosa, so the order died out with them.

Can a female fall in love with and then become sexually attracted to a female friend and not be gay?

Yes

Well that is much a matter of opinion depending on whom you are asking.

BUT I believe that anyone can fall in love with anyone so long as the term bisexual hasn't been erased by prejudice.
And even though you are not a bisexual or gay, everyone will at a time feel like experimenting and therefore lots of people either fall in love with or in another way have a relationship with a person of their own sex.

What was the job of a lady in waiting in medieval times?

The job of a lady in waiting was to assist and attend to women of the noble classes such as a Queen, Princess or Duchess. They tended to be noble women themselves, but of lesser rank. Thanks! I really need this for my school medieval festival. After words I have to write an essay.
