How do you know when your mare is in labor?

When the mare is about ready to foal, she gets really stringy "wax" coming out of her teats. This is called waxing. You have to be really careful though because sometimes it can be hard to see the wax because it is in little beads. Most of the time however, it is really stringy and easily seen. Also just before they foal they start sweating and wil pace around their stall or where ever they are. They may start to dig to. When you see a horse start to do this immediatelly stay where you are and if you aren't experienced get someone who is out there as soon as possible in case of complications.

Why a 7 month old fetus has more chance to survive after premature delivery than an 8 months old fetus?

well since i been doing research on fetuses, my girlfriend is pregnant i believe that a 7 month old fetus can survive preterm birth because of development, so does the 8 month old fetus, but i believe the 8 month old fetus can't survive because it was almost born, i guess. Personally, I haven't heard of this, and can't find it in any of the medical textbooks I have.

An 8 month fetus has more chance of survival than a 7 month old fetus because it is more developed. The weeks just before full term birth, the baby is working on lung development. Neither than 7 month old nor the 8 month old has full lung capacity development... and actually the 7 month old hasn't even started much on this one.

It really depends on any other complications that arise. If the 8 month fetus has more complications, say because of genetics or trauma besides the pre-term delivery, it would have a lesser chance of survival compared to a 7 month fetus that has little or no complications, either genetics or trauma. Both fetus are at risk for pre-mature illnesses and the normal complications that stem from being delivered early.

In either case, medical technology has advanced quite far in these times. Both fetus have a chance for survival with various treatments, medications, machines, and procedures, depending on the needs of the preemie and the stage of development, as well as post-partum circumstances that arise. It is still true, however, that the further along you can carry the baby, the better chance of survival it has because it has been able to be more developed. This is why, if you are too early, and you have true labor pains, the doctor will give you medication to stop the labor and thus give the baby more time to develop in utero.

How long is a hamster in labor?

Does the placenta help form the umbilical cord?

No, they are not. The umbilical cord is an actual cord that connects the baby to the placenta. The placenta is the lining of the uterus that is developed over the course of the pregnancy. The placenta is a "filter" through which the baby's food and oxygen is delivered via the umbilical cord. Once the baby is born, the umbilical cord is clipped and severed. The final, 3rd stage of labor, is the passing of the placenta. That happens 15-30 minutes after the baby is born. The placenta is then checked thoroughly, to ensure that is in intact, and that no pieces are left behind in the uterus. This is VERY important, because if any of the placenta is left in the uterus, it will cause an infection, high fever, can lead to infertility. If not removed, the outcome can be lethal.

Can a 23 week old fetus survive?

Yes there have been babies this young surviving, that is why there should not be abortions this late in pregnancy.

However, the babies that do survive are likely to have undeveloped organs so they require intensive care for a long time and they can have problems with their heart & lungs and other organs as they develop later.

Why are you measuring 34 weeks pregnant when you are only 29 weeks?

Your baby may have just experienced a growth spurt or worst case scenario ... the possibility of gestational diabetes. Make sure to have your glucose screening to exempt the possibility. The same thing happened to me and it was just a growth spurt nothing to worry about.. be proactive and discuss any questions or concerns in the moment with your health practitioner!

How can you make yourself go in labor?

hi.... i got my membranes stripped and it did nothing but gave me contractions on and off for two days. but when i went in for next visit they stripped me again and i went home and drank 2 tablespoons of castrol oil mixed with orange juice and took a long hot bath and two hours later i went to bathroom for first tme. had one bowel movement and that was it. i thought it was a waste but i ended up having my daughter at 2:58 the next morning. i dunno if it was the stripping or the oil but the stripping didnt work the first time but it could have been the source. i was 39 weeks and 6 days when i did the oil and barely 1 and a half cm dialated and 70% effaced. dunno what caused her to honestly come but that's what i did. sex didnt work, walking didnt work, and stairs and squats didnt work but everyone is different. good luck

How to make a pregnant girl happy?

Be there and be stable. It's the same as making any person happy except you must add in hormones and sometimes extreme mood fluctuations. KNOW that she CANT help it and probably doesn't even NOTICE it! Best thing you can do is what she asks you to... if she isn't the asking type... try a few of these things...

1. Do something to show her you are EXCITED about the baby... buy baby clothes or rent a Doppler online so you two can listen to the baby's heartbeat. They can start around $20 a month... This is the most important one! Even if NONE of the others apply to her and her personality no mother can resist a man she knows is excited about the baby! Also, if you don't already have one... get each of you cell phones and or beepers... this way you can alert each other to emergencies and when "ITS TIME". If you can't afford one... just work out a courtesy... like I will be around town today doing the shopping... ok I will be over Nina's fishing... let each other know where you will be so if an emergency happpens or it IS TIME you are at least remotely reachable... if she seems not to understand just tell her you can't miss it and wouldn't for the world... that will soften her up!

2. Tell her she is beautiful and you feel priveleged that she felt you were the one and the one who's child she would carry within her body. Sounds cheesy but to me and lots of other women carrying a man's child is the ultimate way to show love and worthiness. Think about it! We are sacrificing our body to give our child life!

3. Notice how her body is changing and tell her that you love it. The bigger she gets the more healthy the baby and she is... also remind yourself that the bigger she gets the more difficulty it is to do simple tasks like wash her own feet in the bath tub. Do some of the more tedious household chores (the more and more frequently the better) or offer her a bubble bath.

4. Make craving runs... don't complain... tell her you like doing it because it makes you a part of her pregnancy since you can't feel the sypmtoms for her...

5. VERY IMPORTANT! She is making a LIFE with her body! SHE IS TIRED! And will stay especially tired through her first and third trimesters... encourage her to take naps and to take it easy. Send her to a spa and if you can't afford it set up a mini day spa for her at the house... use some lotions around the house and concentrate on the areas she can't... like her feet again...

6. Take her out... just as much as this gives her a break from cooking dinner and cleaning the dishes afterwards it gives you two time together before baby and it will also give you time to show her off! Tell her you are showing her off... you are a proud partner!

7. No matter what she says to you or does to upset you... try your best to shake it off... I was super difficult during my pregnancy and I had NO IDEA! My husband now tells me so and my mom too and I feel just awful! So try to tolerate it!

8. Try to be at all her prenatal appointments! Especially sonograms. This is another way of showing excitement and for you to be involved with her pregnancy. It also reassures you that she is doing ok... you will be there to hear the dr. say she is ok and she won't be able to hide anything from you like an order to bed rest if she is stubborn!

9. (Especially if) this is her first pregnancy she is probably a little nervous and a little scared. Buy her important books to read like "what to expect when you are expecting". It takes care of SOOOO many questions that I felt compelled to dial up my doctor at 3am for! If she gets worried she can flip open the book and reassure both of you. Plus if she enjoys reading it will give her something to do. If she does get bed ridden or spends a lot of time at the house try to find things for her to do for fun... like reading, video games, or puzzles... make sure she has TV and most importantly a phone within reach!

10. Lastly, do all of the previous nine... lol but also encourage good eating habits... and moderate exercises... unless her doctor says otherwise... ask her to go on walks with you... go to lamaze classes together, ask her if she would like to go to a maternity workout class if she is concerned over her health. (be careful how you go about that if she is sensitive) or just to get to know other moms-to-be. For helping her watch her nutrition and exercise she will thank you later believe me! When she loses all her baby fat you can feel a little proud too! And if she doesn't love her anyway.

What is a doula?

Depending on the geographical area, Doula's charge from $200 per birth to $1000 per birth. Doula's are paid by the couple who decides to use the Doula as a support during the birth of their child. It has not been until recently that some health insurances have begun to see the value of a Doula's presence for their patients delivery. The presence of a doula decreases pain medication use, decreases the risk of medical complications, and provides many other benefits that decrease the risk of cesarean section and other complications during labor and delivery. Because of this, some insurance companies have started offering to reimburse pregnant patients for the Doula fee.

If you had such strong braxton hicks contractions last night that you thought it was the real thing does that mean real labor is close?

Can you deliver after 3 c sections?

The answer is yes but most midwives/doctors will advise against it in case your c-section scar ruptures. If you want a VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) then your doctors will advise you of the possible dangers. I think the risk of rupturing a scar is minimal but most don't like to take the chance. I have known women who have gone on to have VBAC.

Is severe rolling lower back pain a sign of labor?

It is for me! With both of mine I had no "front" contractions only back ones. It started as a low dull backache and quickly turned into feeling like something was trying to break out from back there.

What occurs just before childbirth?

Miracles
Normally labor, the birth of a baby and delivery of the placenta.

Complications include placenta abrupture, uterine rupture, maternal hemorrhage, prolapse cord, maternal or fetal death. These are all worst case scenarios and seldom happen to a healthy, well nourished woman in labor.

What is episiotomy and its indication?

A cut from the vaginal opening toward the anus, performed during childbirth.

An episiotomy is a surgical procedure performed on women who are in the second stage of labor. A surgical incision is made on the perineum and posterior vaginal wall. The cut can be made at an angle or in the midline from the posterior end of the vulva. The purpose of the procedure is to enlarge the vagina during child birth and speed up the birth process, it is also done in order to avoid tearing of the vaginal wall during delivery.
