That is correct. You most likely have a worn steering gear. The only way to fix it is to replace the steering gear.

press the button of Overdrive lock in front of the Shift knob panel . then shift out of park. That is a temp solution. one of the sensor in the transmission need to be replaced. aproximiately cost you $100-200 part and labor.

I experienced same thing on my 91 ls400. Let me know if it works. Good luck.

1. Make sure your trip odometer is on Trip A.

2. With the car turned off, press and hold the "Reset" button for the trip odo.

3. Foot off the brake, press the start button twice while holding the reset button and wait for it to reset.

There are three major warning light issues:

For the oil change/oil filter warning:

Start with the ignition switch "ON"

1. Push the "ODO/TRIP" button to change the display to blank.

2. Turn the ignition switch off.

3. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" with the trip meter "RESET" button held down.

4. Keep pushing the "RESET" button for longer than 5 seconds after the ignition is turned on.

5. the master warning light comes on, a warning tone sounds and the message disappears.

For the tire pressure light:

1. key on

2. engine on or off

3. close all doors

4. press and hold the tire reset button under the drivers side dashboard (this is tough to do and impossible without a flashlight)

5. the warning screen by the odo will say pressure initial

6. release the button when the screen returns to blank.

For the A/C filter light:

1. key on

2. engine on or off

3. doors closed

4. press and hold the fan off button on the environmental control area

5. the info meter will read a/c filter reset or something to that effect

6. release the button.

Did you check the fuse? Also, if you have kids, sometimes "things" get put in there, like coins which will cause the fuse to blow. HTH.

Most of the time, yes, unless it is flashing. A check engine light can come on for something as minor as an oxygen sensor going bad. Most manufacturers use the "Steady" for minor things and "Flashing" for serious things.

Light bulb changed. I removed a Philips head screw under a plastic cover on the lower edge of the light housing. Slid the light assembly off the hook at the top and accessed the socket replaced the bulb. Slid the light assembly back on the hook, replaced the scew and snapped on the plastic cap covering the screw. Never did find two screws under the carpet in the trunk. Thanks, but we figured it out.

I never found the Phillips screw. SOOO Open the Trunk at the back there are 2 little doors held closed with velcro. Open these doors. When you have figured out what is burned out, remember "Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey". Rotate the socket mechanism left and gently pull the light and sockett out and remove the bulb. I suggest that if you have one out you should replace both right and left sides bulbs. Good Luck!

Head to the nearest Lexus dealer that is how they design the car and yes it a shame.

Look on lexusownersclub.com as I know someone put pictures and description of the job. This is a job that should be done when the timimg belt is replaced since access is difficult. vbd

Hit the stautus button on the dash. While it is displaying oil life on the trip computer display hold down reset until it resets.

i am trying to replace the belt tensioner on my 1997 ls400 , i got everything loose but there is a plastic seal right in front of it , it is holding the tensioner and there is where i got stuck , can someone tell me how to get the tensioner out without removing the plastic seal . thanks

Hey John==The check engine light is trying to tell you that something iis wrong. Takeit to Auto zone and have the codes read anD it wiss tell you what area to check. GoodlucckJoe

I have a 1993 LS400 that has had several different issues with the instrument panel. 1)The needle on the speedometer went out ~110,000mi - I eventually had the dealer replace it for big $$$. 2) Beginning ~120,000mi the entire instrument panel would flicker in cold weather until the car was fully warmed up - I found an electrician expert who diagnosed this problem on his own LS400 & offers repairs via eBay at about $600 LESS than the dealer wanted. 3)The time / temp LCD became unreadable "smudged" especially in cold weather. I found replacement LCD on eBay from several different vendors & installed myself. Car is currently at 140,000mi and instrument panel is fine!

get snow tires and you'll be fine. also turn on the "snow" button and everything works great.

Basically it is behind the glove box. Remove the glove box and the lower dash panel on the passenger side and the ECM should be there.

The "symbol" I believe you are talking about is actually the coolant level is low. It appears to be what looks to be like a crankcase filter and it glows orange on the lower left instrument cluster. I was puzzled on mine as well and finally figured it out.
