In most cases the alternator fails due to fluid leaking from the power steering pump which is located above the alternator. I believe that you must remove the power steering pump first but it may be possible to remove from below as well. As you stand in front of the car looking at the engine, look down to the left behind the radiator and you will see the power steering pump. Now squirm around and look down uder that and there it is. I would ask the mechanic if they will use a supplied part rather than paying for the upcharge. Or if you can do it you will save even more money. All you really need to do is disconnect the battery terminals, unbolt the starter (wrestle with it to get it out) and disconnect the wires. Just do the oppsosite to replace the starter. Good Luck!

I would need to know which bulb. They are all easy enough for anyone to do but you will need more specific instructions. as it will take forever if you are not familiar with the sequence. VBD

disconnted battery first or air bag will open . disconnect wires then bolts and remove. Replace in reverse

I've have never heard of an Is400, but if it is wired correctly it should have a fuse.

The ecm is located on passenger side of vehicle. Remove under cover of instrument panel and lower piece of instrument panel(piece right below glove box), has four connectors going into it.

I had the same problem the car started sometimes and sometimes did not. In my case i needed contacts, the contacts in the starter was bad. It cost me $500.00 so my advice is to buy a new starter the contacts were $12.99 a piece and later on i found out that you can buy a new starter for $500.00

If you buy replacements at AutoZone or some place like that ($25/ea), it will require a 10mm open end to reinstall. Simple job, but probably would help to have someone hold up the hood while you un-install and re-install. BTW, I found it extremely hard to line up the connection points on the new cylinders...it takes a lot of strength and a pair of gloves. Don't scratch the shiny plunger with anything or it will destroy the seal and leak all the gas out.

I have owned my LS 400 for about 5 months.

My local driving mileage around Washington, DC is from 18.5 to 19.5mpg. My Interstate and Hiway mileage, when able to average around 55-65mph, ranges from 28-31mpg. I suppose if I could learn to take it a little easier on acceleration I could increase the low-speed loacal drving mileage somewhat. But it is soooooo much fun to stand on the accelerator once in awhile and wakeup all 300hp!

Check engine or sometimes called MIL (malfunction indicator light) is mainly related to emissions. The TOP reasons are oxygen sensors and smog related items. Unplug your negative battery post for a minute or two and see how long it takes for the light to come on again. On mine it was a sensor and came on within about 3-5 miles of city driving.

Typically there are two fuse boxes: One under the hood normally near the battery and one under the dash. The fastest and easiest way to find the fuse blocks as well as identify which fuse is for what is to consult your owner's manual - always the best place to start. After checking your fuses you may find out that it's a bad bulb that's braking the circuit. Check your ignition coil. You have two. one on left bank and one on right bank. if one is bad car would not have any power but maybe idle fine. Might only go 20 or 30 miles per hour. Also would cause cat converters to glow red.

The oil filter is located on the Drivers side front lower part of the engine. There is a plastic shield the has to be removed to access it

The ls400 has 4 oxygen sensors the 2 main oxygen sensors are before the catalytic converters in the LH and RH exaust manifolds the 2 sub oxygen sensors are after the catalytic converters located in the exaust pipe under the car www.lextechautomotive
