You have to drain the radiator then remove the two bolts on the top flange of the top hose and under that is the thermostat. See how it is installed so you put the replacement one in correctly.

the a/c clutch is loose and is shorting out. the compressor and clutch must be replaced

there is one one the drivers side between the motor and shock tower, theres 2 on the front one in front thats connected between the raideator and just above the air conditioner pump, the one in back is in the same place as the front but lower down, you will need to support the engine from below to remove any one of these, they'er time come suming for the most part, butch

Yes it will, the only difference is that the SC300 is a 6 cyl. and the SC400 is a V8, the body is the same for both.

Depends on where you live. If you live in a cold climate buy a battery in the correct size with the most CCA you can find. The more the better.

Weak or broken mount.

First you need to remove the upper engine covers. They are held on by Allen bolts(5mm Allen socket).Then remove the throttle body and intake inlet chamber.Take your time doing this so you do not brake crack hoses or connectors.Now you can remove the coils,plug wires and plugs. Good luck!

My friend had the same problem with his sc400. Says it's usually a relay located not too far away from your left foot when your driving. Sry about not being too specific but it should be a good place to start..

I had this happen in my SC300. Check your fuses including A/C AND cigarette lighter fuse.

It is slightly below the power steering reservoir but on the engine block. It is a bit tricky to get to.

Timing belt replacement is usually part of the 100,000 mile service, and would be done every 100,000 miles thereafter. However, this car is a noninterference engine (inline 6), so even if the belt breaks, it will not destroy your engine (as it will in most other cars).

Open the key fob, remove the battery and look and see what size it is.

What makes it undriveable, symptoms

There is one black plastic fuse box located under the hood which mainly houses the relays. As you open the hood, it is on the driver's side about 2/3rds of the way down the engine compartment located far right against the fender. Non-descript 9"x5" approx. with two plastic head screws you can loosen by screwdriver or even with a quarter to lift lid and access various fuses and relays. Legend for fuse / relay applications should be imprinted on the underside of the lid; also built into the lid is a fuse holder, you may have some spares there if you're lucky. The other is under the dash on the driver side where your left foot goes. There is a panel that kind of curves downward you need to remove to expose fuse panel.

Sure it is possible. It will also be very expensive and require lots of modifications. It is much easier to go from manual to A/T. I would advice against it. Trade cars if you want a manual.

It's possible, but if you really want to do it, I would suggest just getting the 2JZG(T)E motor. It'll cost you about $10k in parts and labor, but it's well worth it. A LOT of potential, 330 HP off the top.

yes it is possible but you will loose your traction control and it will be costly if your going with all new parts like center console, clutch pedal, and transmission, pressure plate, and clutch. I'm not sure if the drive shaft would be shorter or longer or even needs to be change though, but if i was having to replace my auto trans cause of problems then i would go with a manual at that time but i don't think its worth the money for just pleasure

is it possible to bolt up another Toyota tranny? with an adapter plate? like a supra trans? or another w58 that can bolt up? and what about the sc400? what manual will bolt up to those motors?

Swapping an sc300 to a manual w58 transmission is not nearly as difficult or expensive as previously listed. All the parts needed to do the swap can be had for under $1,000 if you look in the right places, such as craigslist and clublexus. As far as installing it, if your not mechanicly inclined, you will need a shop to do it for you, which will jack up the price.

Bro just get a 5speed OEM Lexus they made those just hard to find found a couple for just about $6,000

DO NOT REMOVE THE AC COMPRESSOR. Do not ignore global warming and the federal laws you would be breaking.

First take it to a qualified shop and have the freon captured for recycling. This will eliminate a real pollution problem as well as make the system easier to work on. If your freon has already leaked out, you have more problems than just a dead compressor.

Now, loosen the serpentine belt.

Disconnect the AC hoses.

Remove the bolts holding the AC Compressor in place.

Replace the AC Compressor.

Remember to replace the receiver/drier unit every time you open the AC system.

Have a qualified shop connect the receiver drier unit, replace the refrigerant in the system and test for leaks.

You will have to get or do it yourself a scan, too many sensors to just try to figure out what's wrong.

My 1992 Lexus Sc400 was doing that at stop lights or when stopped. It would stall completely and idol funny too. I had to replace the timing belt because of that. So check that and see if that is the problem. It cost me 700 dollars to replace the timing and water pump so it is not to expensive. Ever since I changed the timing I have gotten way better gas mileage too. Hope this helps.
