How are suspension and solution the same?
They are not the same. If you pass a suspension through a filter paper, all the solid that was in suspension is left behind on the paper. A solution doesn't have any solid bits in suspension - it is all liquid. It will go through a filter paper without leaving any thing behind.
Head bolt torque 1992 continental 3.8 v6?
Head Bolts:
1. 15ft lbs
2. 30ft lbs
3. 37ft lbs
4. loosen 1 bolt 2-3 turns then do final torque before going to next bolt.
Final torque:
Long bolt 30-37lbs +180 degree's (1/2 turm tighter)
Short bolt 15-22lbs +180 degree's (1/2 turm tighter)
Yes, it seems odd to loosen a bolt once it's tight but it is what ford recommends. Tighten all bolts to 1st torque setting then 2nd and then 3rd. Once all bolts are tightened to 37 ft lbs you must then loosen 1 bolt 2 to 3 turns and re-torque (29-37 long bolt or 15-22 short bolt). Once torque setting is reached you then tighten the bolt 1/2 turn more. Do this for each bolt. Loosening and re-torque only 1 bolt at a time.
I have seen the Ford service bulletin that confirm these settings.

How do you pop the hood on 67 continental with no cable?
We just had this happen on a 67 Lincoln at our shop. It is not easy, but can be done.
You need to pry up the back of the hood just enough so that you can get a long extension under the hood. You need to unbolt the hook that is bolted to the hood. There are two bolts.
Once that is done, the hood will open. You will need to replace both cables. Good Luck.
Instrument cluster is starting to fail. Needs to be replaced. Ford no longer makes them. Contact these folks:

What size battery for a 94 Lincoln Continental?
BCI group 65 :
650 CCA ( cold cranking amps ) without heated windshield ( such as Motorcraft BXT-65-650 )
850 CCA ( cold cranking amps ) with heated windshield ( such as Motorcraft BXT-65-850 )
I removed the thermostat, removed the mechanism and put the framework back in. I know this not the best repair, but it works. I think I was getting an air pocket by the thermostat. Steam will not open a thermostat the thermostat has to be submerged in water. The car was taken to a Lincoln dealer several times. After spending several thousands dollars at the dealer mechanics and several independent repair shops I did my own repair by cannibalizing the thermostat. Since
I did that repair the car never overheated again. This
type of repair can cause hot and cold spots in the engine. We have put on ten thousand miles since my own repair. It might not be the most correct but at least we did not have to junk a car that had no other problems.

Where is the turn signal flasher on a 1996 Lincoln Continental?
Some might think there is no turn signal flasher fuse and if your turn signals are not working you should replace the turn signal switch located on the stearing colum. This is incorrect. There is a flasher for this car EP-34 12.8v ELECTRONIC FLASHER Up Date: I checked with the Lincoln dealer and verified that the Lincoln continental flasher is integrated into the "Multifunction light control module" part # 13c788. Cost at the dealer is over $600, junk yard around $50. There is no stand alone flasher relay as in the older or more senseably engineered and cheaper cars.

How to fix 'check ride control' alert in 1996 Lincoln continental?
I have a 1996 Lincoln that presented a "Check Ride Control" warning one morning. After driving it for about 10 minutes I could tell it was handling differently. By the time I got to work (50 miles) the front of the car had sunk such that the tires would scrape the inside of the fender when I made a turn. When I left work 10 hours later, the drive home was scary - I probably should have had it towed. The car over-reacted to every bump and each flaw in the road felt like a canyon. After reviewing it for an hour or so, my mechanic said that the air system itself was mechanically ok but the computer was telling it the ride control to empty the cyclinders. He talked to a local dealer and they said they wanted no part of it and that if they were to address the problem I could expect at least $1200 in charges. Thankfully my mechanic isloated a flawed sensor - it cost me $168 for the part and $230 for labor. I was happy to get away with the $398. My understanding is that these systems are really problematic and owners with the time and inclination often replace the air system with a spring suspension system.
Can the air ride suspension be switched to regular shocks on a 1996 Lincoln continental?
Yes!! Aftermarket conversion kits for the older cars with air ride suspensions have become a hot item in recent years because the kits provide a repair solution for vehicles that might otherwise be too expensive to fix. For example, a set of four new OEM air struts and a compressor for a 10-year-old 1994 Lincoln Continental retail for around $3,500. Add in the installation labor, and it adds up to a lot of money to spend on a car that is worth roughly $2,500. The same car could be converted to a regular coil spring suspension for around $500 to $600 in parts, and it would probably be a lifetime repair (no future air leaks, compressor failures or electronic glitches to worry about.) Here is a link to a Monroe kit. http://www.monroe.com/products/mp_detail.asp?cat=Accessories&detail=Conversion%20Kits
How do you change a rear brake light on a 1998 Lincoln Continental?
I just changed out the center brake light bulbs that display in the rear window. It was quite easy. First, you need to pull down the carpet covering the underside in the trunk. It has 5 or 6 plastic "snap in's." It's helpful to use a flathead scewdriver to pop them out. * Note: Don't try to pull them out of the carpet. Just pull them out of the metal with the carpet. There are 3 or 4 facing you as you look in the trunk, and 2 underneath one locatated on the right and left.
Once the carpet is down, you may need a flashlight to see, look under where the brake light is, and you should see a grey plastic housing about 3/4" wide x 3-4" long with wires in it. Just pull on it and it will come out. Replace the bad bulb(s), and then reverse your steps to put it back together.

How do I replace the dcl on a 1994 continental?
Assuming you are getting the "Check DCL" indicator, your instrument cluster is starting to go bad. DCL = Data Communications Link. It's a data line, not a part. This is a known and frequent problem with these cars as the instrument cluster gets some age on it.
The clusters are obsolete. Ford no longer makes them and no new ones exist (believe me, I looked everywhere.) You'll need to contact these folks to obtain a rebuilt cluster:

What would DCL mean on a 1991 Lincoln Continental?
DCL stands for 'data control logger'. The only thing I can suggest if the light is flashing, is to scan the computer for fault codes if it has not been done.
AnswerIt means that your ground wires are going bad and they need to be checked as soon as you can bring it some where.DCL stands for Data Communications Link. A known problem with these cars as they age is the instrument cluster will begin to throw erratic indicators (especially Check DCL) and eventually fail altogether. The cluster is obsolete; Ford no longer manufactures it, so you will have to get a refurbished unit. These folks did well by me with mine:
