Also, the water pump could easily cause an engine to start running hot. Water pumps don't necessarily go completely bad all at once. It could be just starting to go bad, the worse it gets, the hotter the engine will run. Also, if the radiator did indeed need flushing, then understand that the inside condition of the radiator and the water pump will naturaly be the same. So the chances of the water pump going bad would be pretty good. One other possibility could be a crack in a head. If the overheating happens in low city driving only and at highway speeds the egine runs ok, look into the hydraulic radiator( 2000-2002 only) fan. It is possible that the fan is not running at all. Run the engine with the hood open. When the temp gage starts climbing, look at the fan blade to see if it running.
How do you bleed the cooling system on a 2001 Lincoln?
Here is the procedure from the factory service manual:
1. Remove the engine fill cap.
On 3.0L engines
2. Open the engine air bleed.
On all engines
3. Open the heater air bleed.
4. Add coolant to the degas bottle allowing the system to equalize until no more coolant can be added.
On 3.0L engines
5. Close the engine air bleed when coolantbegins to escape.
On all engines
6. Replace the degas bottle cap.
On 3.9L engines
CAUTION: Care must be taken to ensure the accessory drive belt does not become
contaminated with engine coolant.
7. Add as much coolant as possible to the engine fill. The heater air bleed will remain open.
8. Replace the engine fill cap.
On all engines
9. NOTE: The heater air bleed remains open.
Start the engine and turn the heater to MAX position.
10. Close the heater air bleed when a steady stream of coolant comes from it, during engine idle.
11. Allow the engine to idle for five minutes, add coolant to the degas bottle as needed to maintain the
cold fill MAX mark.
12. Reopen the heater air bleed to release any entrapped air and close again.
On 3.9L engines
13. Maintain engine speed of 2,000 rpm for 3-5 minutes or until hot air comes from the heater.
14. Return to idle and verify hot air is still coming from the heater.
On 3.0L engines
15. Maintain engine speed of 1,500 rpm for 3-5 minutes or until hot air comes from the heater.
16. Return to idle and verify hot air is still coming from the heater.
On all engines
17. Set the heater temperature setting to 24°C (75°F ) and allow the vehicle to idle for two minutes.
18. Shut the engine off and allow to cool.
19. After the engine has cooled, add coolant to the degas bottle to bring the level to the cold fill MAX
mark.

What is the cylinder order for a 2003 Lincoln LS V6?
For a 2003 Lincoln LS , 3.0 litre V6 engine :
The engine cylinder locations are numbered :
firewall
3 - 6
2 - 5
1 - 4
front of vehicle
The firing order is ( 1 - 4 - 2 - 5 - 3 - 6 )
It has the Coil On Plug ( C.O.P. ) ignition system with ( 6 ) individual coils
The average miles driven by Americans each year is 7,000 to 10,000 miles. Reasonable mileage on a 2003 car would be around 110,000 miles or less in 2014.
Try not having the A/C Temp set to "auto". Manually set the fan speed to low before you shut down the car. I'm not sure if the A/C defaults to Full Auto or not but it's worth a try and you didn't mention it.

I guess it could be the heating element in the seat. But i'd try tracing the wiring backwards from the seat if you can. Maybe something is just loose. Perhaps the indicator light is just stating that it's getting power at the switch and not at the actual heater. If you're electrically inclined, you might be able to find out some specs to check for resistance, and voltage at various points with a multimeter.
How do you change thermostat on 2001 lingoln ls?
To change the thermostat on a 2001 Lincoln LS, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the coolant from the radiator, then remove the upper radiator hose connected to the thermostat housing. Unbolt the thermostat housing to access the thermostat, replace it with a new one, reassemble the housing, reconnect the hose, and refill the cooling system with coolant. Finally, reconnect the battery and start the engine to check for leaks and proper operation.
Is mercon v the same as shell m-1375.4?
hi
mercon v i don't think so
all the gear boxes that specify 1375.4 fluid are manufactured by zf
and model being 6hp26 and 6hp28
they all recomend their own manufacturer's oem fluid or lifegaurd 6 fluid
the cheapest and ford and lincoln recommends mercon sp in their cars using this gearbox so i think mercon v is not similar
mercon sp is only fluid used in this box other than oem and lg6 so that maybe shell 1375.4 but not confirmed
It's 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit! That's a super hot degrees! It's five times hotter than our sun!

How do you set the timing on a 2001 Lincoln Ls?
If you are thinking of setting the timing like what you need to do with vehicles that actually have distributors, you CAN'T. The Lincoln LS has no distributor.
If you are talking about the timing chain then that involves a LONG process. The job is about a 12-14 hour job (flat rate time for mechanics)
