Yes. and it will cost around $130.00 at the parts store. it also requires alot of skill to replace. it is soldered in and the alternator brushes are also involved. They need to be pinned out of the way to reinstall. Unless you are equipped and have a good working knowledge of alternators you will be better off purchasing a quality rebuilt. a quality rebuilt will cost you around $200.00

On a 1995 Lincoln Mark 8.Why can't I shut the radio off The volume knob is a PUSH to turn ON. PUSH AGAIN TURNS OFF. It stays on when I re push the knob. When I open the door it goes off as it should.?

The 'off' control is very sensitive. If you are brave enough to tackle the problem, I would suggest you remove the radio and clean the contact for the 'on-off' switch. Most electrical contacts are copper based and therefore subject to forming a 'patina' (an oxide or carbonate 'film') when exposed to air (an oxygen atmosphere).

If you do not have the mechanical ability to perform this task, I highly recommend you let someone of whom is profient in mechanical aptitude to do the work. It's not brain surgery, but it does require a certain degree of mechanical aptitude.

Why won't my 1994 Lincoln mark 8 shift out of second gear?

Not Certain but here is a pointer to help you. Most modern transmissions can go into what is called Limp Mode. Laymens terms, your computer constantly checks various functions of the drive train, in your case, the transmission. When it detects a problem, it will put itself into what is called the Limp mode. E.G. Worn part, broken part, or maybe just low fluid, computer says OK, we need to protect our components and get this girl to the garage, so to protect ourself and make that possible, we are taking over, we will allow you to drive, but we will limit what you can do. How do you know what to do. Try this. 1. Check all fluids. Trans fluid should be light red color, not a brownish red color, (if it is change it to what car calls for, when you can, not now). 2. Now,,, you need to reset the computer, easy enough. Turn off car, turn off all accesories, disconnect battery, positive and negative. While disconnected, go flip every switch you can on and back to off, (lights, radio, hit the brake, blinker, etc. (You are hopefully discharging any static or capacitor electricity stored somewhere). Now that you have done all that and waited a full 30 seconds, you can now re-connect the battery terminals, while they are off you might want to clean them!!! You have just re-set the portion of your computer that monitors the transmission. Now go drive. Your computer will monitor the transmission and any thing abnormal will be logged in the computer. If any parameters are out of whack, the computer will protect the transmission (or at least try to) by going back into limp mode. HINT. This usually means something serious could be wrong. Hope this helped. Good Luck

Where is the thermostat located on a 1996 Lincoln Mark 8 and is it eazy to change?

It's on the right side front and it is a pain. The best way is to get an extension at least 10 inches and get it from below, of course drain the radiator first and be sure to change the O ring to be sure that it doesn't leak because you don't want to be messing with it once you replace the thermostat and the car will be better if you put a 180 degree in instead of the factory 192-194 degree. Hope this helps.

Where do you plug the code reader in on a 95 Lincoln Mark VIII?

The EEC connector is in engine compartment. It is on driver side wheel well inside a 1"x3" plastic cover. Fallow radiator overflow tank back toward the firewall . The little cover with the plug in it is right there on top inside of fender. Look for the plastic cover with EEC on it. Now carefully open the little clip that holds the wire connector. and it should come down and out on it's own. Do not left the plastic cover. Do Not pull on the wires.

Note : be sure the single connecting grounding wire (the grey one) comes out with the larger separate 6 hole black plug ,you must use both with the code reader. Steve - WA.

Why would the Door Ajar light stay on in a 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII?

Spraying the latch assembly with WD-40 worked great on my Mark viii, but it took about four days of spraying a couple times a day until the door ajar went away. Keep trying and don't give up easily!

The best way to fix this is to spray WD-40 in the latch assembly and that will fix the problem. Don't be afraid to really soak it down.
