The 1997 Lincoln mark viii transmission make a noise when i backup?
Typical U-Joint noise. Makes noise in reverse but not in drive. Check both front and rear U-joints of the drive shaft. If one is bad replace both. You do not want to go through R&R of the drive shaft twice.
Why would the AC on 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue go off and on?
Low refrigerant
ALSO...
I had this exact same problem, and it was NOT refrigerant or the AC Relay or anything else.
It was a faulty fan switch in the control panel.
How I finally arrived at this correct diagnosis is that I found by "nudging" the fan switch with my finger, the AC light in the AC button would come right back on.
I replaced the AC control head unit with a brand new GM replacement part off EBay for $190 shipped and the problem has been 100% solved for over a week now.
Mk VIII radio stays on even when you push button turns off when the Ignition is off?
The on/off pushbutton has a bad internal latch and must be replaced it is a BOURNS panel mounted switch 3712X-001-036 with a ribbon lead and plug and is easily replaced but you will never find one
If you research this problem you could go to http://www.2carpros.com where they will try to sell you a subscription to a PDF file of a repair manual, or you could donate some money and then an "expert" will look up the solution in the Manual that they are trying to sell. If you want the part number of the actuator and how to strengthen the weak link (design flaw that costs $800) then go to :
http://www.markviii.org/LOD2/blend_door_reinforce.htm
This is a picture of the cheaply engineered design flaw that cost Lincoln Mark VIII owners $800 (Thanks Ford Motor Company for your support to your vehicle owners.) http://www.markviii.org/LOD2/blend_doorshaft_fracture.jpg
and to who ever said that it was too involved, lets hope that they are too busy to turn on their computer next time rather than deliver such a useless answer.
The question you ask is too involved for a proper answer. You need to go to a car parts store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00
What if the door lock don t work what you have to do 1994 mark viii?
replace the door lock accuators. should only be 50.00 for the part
45 seconds after you turn the ignition off, passengers get out (no weight on the front seats) AND you close the doors, the system will automatically vent and drop the car by one (1) inch. If any of those three conditions are not met, it won't drop. You can usually hear the solenoid valves open and close when it is doing that. When the engine is started, passengers get on or off and doors are open and closed, the system will check and adjust for normal "city driving" height as needed. When driving at speeds over 60 MPH for more than 45 seconds, the system will vent and drop the car by one (1) inch for better stability, raising it back to the normal "city driving" height when the speed drops below 40 MPH for more than 45 seconds. If the car is unevenly loaded (portly passenger on one corner, for example), the system will automatically adjust and level the car. Venting is done by opening the individual solenoid valves on each bag and the master vent valve on the compressor with the compressor off. Inflating is done by turning the compressor on and opening the individual solenoid valves, with the master vent valve closed. Front bags are controlled individually, rear bags are controled in tandem.

Change gasket on oil filter housing?
= I assume you are talking about 4.6L Mark VIII? If so read on. = = You remove the oil filter and drain the cooling system; yes the cooling system runs through the oil filter adapter / housing. Remove the cooling hose attached to the housing / adapter. Use a long 3/8 drive extension and proper socket to fit the bolts. I believe they are 10 mm? it has been a day or two. Remove the left front wheel. Go through the driver fender well you can see the bolts through the small opening just above the frame and inner fender well inline with the filter housing / adapter. I believe there are 3 bolts holding it on maybe 4? You might be able to get to the bolts the same way you get to the filter, it's close either way. = = = = Now allow my experience to possibly help here. If you have an oil leak in the area and you first replaced the oil sending unit to correct the problem and it didn't you maybe be thinking it now has to be the oil filter housing / adapter? chances are . . . . It's not. I own two of these vehicles and I have repaired many of these Mark VIII's leaking in the same area and everybody thought it was the oil sending unit then the front seal and finally the oil filter housing / adapter. None of the above was the problem. Try this, it only takes a ½ hour or so and it cost nothing! Raise the front of the vehicle and support it. = = Remove the driver side wheel. On the side of the 4.6L = = block just above the oil pan attaching bolts is a series of = = bolts that go from front of engine to rear of engine (4) I believe? One just happens to be between the oil filter housing / adapter and front of engine, they are 10 mm bolts heads. You will need good lighting and a good eye to spot it but its there. The oil filter housing / adapter is almost in the way look close. Unplug the connector to the oil sending unit and power steering pressure switch and move them out of the way. With a long extension, wiggle joint / universal joint adapter and 10 mm socket Remove that bolt; there will be a tiny bit of oil drain out when you remove that bolt. Clean / clean and dry the block surface. Clean and dry the bolt. The bolt will have what looks like a wide flange where a gasket goes, there isn't one. Use a good quality silicone sealer and put a thin film on the wide flange of the bolt. Not a bunch, it's not needed. Make sure the hole in the side of the block is still clean and dry. Use brake clean; choke cleaner or equivalent i.e. an oil cutting solvent spray that dries quickly. Screw the bolt back in and give it time to dry before you start the engine. I'll bet your leak is gone and you will have saved a lot of time, money and energy. I've tried to be very clear with my instructions. You may have to bend twist grunt & groan to get the bolt out and in, it is a close fit and difficult to see. Everybody's ability to do this is different. Drl = = = = =
Heater core replacement 94 Lincoln mark 8?
If you're turning on your heat and cold air is coming out, then this is what you can try. You have to get behind the glove box. Open the glove box, and just find all the screws that are holding the actual "box" part on door. Once this is out, you should be able to see a some wires and body paneling. Feel behind the lower left side of the glove box and try and find a lever which will move up and down. This lever switches your vents from the heating core to the A/C. Start up your car and put the heat on full blast. Then, while feeling the lever, push the "max A/C" button. If this lever doesn't try to move, there is your problem. Try using a rubber band to hold the lever in the heating position. You won't be able to use the A/C once the lever is bound, but when summer comes, just take off the rubber band.
Where is the proportioning valve located on a 1984 corvette?
The proportioning valve and warning switch is integrated into the master cylinder assembly.
I think the proportioning valve is located on the frame rail under the master cylinder?Thats where it is on my 1980.
The proportioning valve is not on the frame rail on an 84. It is inside the master cylinder.

What could cause a grinding or squealing noise from a car?
I had an extrememly loud grinding soun under my hood one day when my car ran hot i new it was my water pump and i tried to get home and the car stalled out and would no longer start because it shredded the timing belt. I would have someone look at the water pump and the alternator.
AnswerRemove the fan belt and start the engine to eliminate alt, water pump. Can do the same for power steering to eliminate the pump. If you still have the noise, the noise is normally engine or trany. AnswerIf it's a grinding noise it can also be one of the bearings in your wheels. Don't take apart your engine just yet. :) AnswerI had this grinding or whirring noise when driving my 86 crx Honda hf model. The solution was replacing the berring in the front wheel hub. Upon inspection the hub itself did not need replacing only the berring. It now is free of the noise. AnswerI have a 2002 Chevy Cavalier and I also replaced the wheel hub bearing assembly. YOU CANNOT take the bearing out of the hub, it is an entire assembly.http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=S001&UserAction=viewSimpleDiagInfo&Parameters=info
i agree check the bearings first... you can do this your self by jacking up the front of the car so the tires a off the ground so you can move them. Once the tires are off the ground you grab the top and bottom of the tire and see if it has play in it ( try to move the tire top to bottom ) if you have play then you need to service your wheel barings or replace them
-your brakes can also make grinding or squealing noises but both at once would not be likely
ANSWER
I had mine just like that. and I remove the 2 belts, remove the water pump and put a new one and you can save the old coolant as long as you did not put it to the dirty pale. It's going to run just like normal again.

Why does trans on 1993 mark 8 make brief grinding noise when changing from second or third gear?
I would like to add that on my 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII I experienced a more of a vibration sound and feel from the transmission during shifts that is best described as driving off the main highway lane onto the vibration pad in the emergency lane. This rumble or vibration is caused by a failure in the accumulator and piston spring setup in the transmission (usually a broken spring). There is a Ford service builetin on it and there are upgrade parts available and the repair is an easy home mechanic fix. But I fear if you hear grinding that you could have bands wearing out in tranny?... worst news is that these trannsmissions are not cheap to have worked on and installed by local shops and dealers ranging from transmission alone 1400-2k$ not including labor. But you can find the transmission for 600$ with waranty if the force is with u, And let me tell you there arn't that many jedi out there.
AnswerOn my 93 mark 8, there is often a brief "chatter" before the transmission warms up during gear shifting. Once the transmission fluid is warmed up this stops. If you have excessive chatter, try changing the tranny fluid. There is a difference between grinding and chatter, one sounds like something slipping and gripping back and forth quickly, the other sounds like metal on metal.

Clutch chatter is a problem but not always a immediate bad one and I've heard of it being fixed by using the right transmission fluid or an additive.
Change the filter and the oil of the transmission.
Because your filter is dirty with too much dust to let the oil trough the filter.
And the oil could be dirty too.
