Why does my Mazda Proteges overdrive go off and on on its own?
My Mazda Protege LX did the same thing, especially when it was hot out. I eventually found out it was a loose wire behind my overdrive switch located in the shift column. The overdrive button pops right out with a tight grasp and a little tug. See if both wires are still connected to the switch.

How do you remove and replace the alternator on a 2000 Mazda MPV?
The alternator on my 1990 MPV failed and I tried to renew it myself, it seemed like a pretty simple task as the alternator is easily accessed. When I loosened the belt and removed the mounting bolts I found that the alternator will not slide off the mounting bar as it is blocked (just barely enough) by the power steering unit. I did not want to remove that unit so I simply put it all back and paid a local Chevrolet dealership the $65 dollars and I am good to go. It is simply to much to do without a lift.

How do you replace the tail light assembly on a 2003 Mazda MPV?
Start by removing the two Philips head screws. There are two retaining pins that still are holding the cover on so it will not just pop right off. The retaining clips are on the oposite side from where the two screws are so you pretty much have to jiggle the tail light assembly to the side to remove it. To reinstall, just line back up the retaining pins to their respective sockets then reinstall the two Philips head screws.
The trick is the light assembly must be pulled outward. For example: If you are standing at the right taillight, you must pull the assembly to your right outward (after you remove the screws of course). I used a plastic, childrens knife to kind of wedge it in there as to not damage the paint. Hope this helps.
Thanks, this worked for my 2004 MPV. To clarify, the hidden pins face right and left. By wedging a plastic piece on the far side from the screws and prying starting at the bottom of the rail light assembly and moving towards the top the assembly pops out nicely.
Having just broke the assembly following these instructions I should add a clarifier that outward really means sideways and NOT to the rear of the car.

How do you replace the blower motor on a 1992 Mazda MPV?
Remove the 3 screws from the black panel above the passengers feet. Remove the 8 screws from around the panel that holds the glove box. (4 top and 4 bottom)
Take a flat head screwdriver and pop off the upper right side panel.(The panel on the side of the upper right AC vent.) You will see one last screw with a tab, holding the glove box panel. Pull out and down a little and the panel will come off. Unplug the speaker wire 2 pin connector.
Now you will see the white box that holds the blower motor. On the bottom of it, you will see one black screw that holds a rectangular box approx. 4x2". unscrew it to get it out of the way. Unscrew the passenger side floor to door carpet, foot panel.(4 screws) Unscrew the "plastic" screw in the upper corner of the right plastic triangular floor panel, then pull out the plastic spacer.
Pull up the rubber door molding on the lower door frame about one foot. Take a flat head screwdriver and and pop the triangular panel off. On the lower right of the blower motor, attached to the right wall, you will see a metal heat sink. (It has 3 connectors attached to it) There are 2 bolts on the bottom attaching it to the side and a metal tongue groove on the top. Unbolt it and slide it down and out. You don't have to unplug the wires. Again this is for easier access. (At least for my big hands.)
On the bottom front of the blower motor you will see a black board with 3 connectors. This is the blower motor resister. The middle connector goes to the motor. Unhook it. To the right of it is another connector that goes to the other side of the motor and is resting in the white frame. Unplug it.
There are 3 gold screws on the bottom of the blow motor assembly. Take a stubby screw driver and unscrew them. Disconnect the small black plastic air hose. Wiggle the blower motor and fan cage out.
Take the new motor assembly and do in reverse.
when you reverse connect a battery there is a good chance you will blow the main fuse this will protect the car from more damage but usually stops the battery for been charged as well... check and change the main fuse or fuseable link The alternator probably already was bad before you put the battery in.
