Can a petrol gearbox be used with a diesel engine?

It will physically fit as many diesel engines share the same blocks, but the gear ratios will be unsuitable, due to the reduced effective rev range of a diesel compared to the petrol engine. In short, will probably fit, won't work

How do you convert a diesel engine to a gas engine?

If you have the engineering know-how and an engineering workshop with the right tools it might be possible to convert the engine if you were already a car repairs and tuning enthusiast... But then you would not be asking this question here, would you? !!!!

It would definitely not be possible to convert a gas engine into a diesel engine because the cylinder block and head would not be strong enough. A diesel engine needs a much higher compression ratio than a gas engine, which means the gas engine's cylinder block and cylinder head would probably explode under the higher pressure.

You would have to change so many things:

* the crankshaft, to get a shorter piston stroke, because the compression ratio for gas is much lower than for diesel;

* the connecting rods and pistons * the cylinder head and camshaft to get the right valves and holes for spark plugs

* the fuel injectors and fuel pump - and maybe the tank too, to get the right vents and filler cap for gas instead of diesel * the exhaust system to get the right catalytic converter * the gears in the gearbox to get the right gear ratios to suit a gas engine * diesel does not use any spark plugs so you would have to find way to add an ignition system to supply the sparks! * etc. In short, it would not make sense to try to do it from a cost point of view.

You could perhaps buy a reconditioned gas engine, made by the original car manufacturer to go in the same model of car, but, unless you could fit it yourself along with all the other bits and pieces it would be far cheaper just to buy a secondhand gas model and sell your present diesel model.

When was the gas motor engine invented?

One of the most important landmarks in engine design comes from Nicolaus Otto who in 1876 invented an effective gas motor engine. Nicolaus Otto built the first practical four-stroke internal combustion engine called the "Otto Cycle Engine," and when he completed his engine, he built it into a motorcycle. Nicolaus Otto was born on June 14, 1832 in Holzhausen, Germany. Otto's first occupation was as a traveling salesman selling tea, coffee, and sugar. He soon developed an interest in the new technologies of the day and began experimenting with building four-stroke engines (inspired by Lenoir's two-stroke gas-driven internal combustion engine). After meeting Eugen Langen, a technician and owner of a sugar factory, Otto quit his job, and in 1864, the duo started the world's first engine manufacturing company N.A. Otto & Cie (now DEUTZ AG, Köln). In 1867, the pair were awarded a Gold Medal at the Paris World Exhibition for their atmospheric gas engine built a year earlier. In May 1876, Nicolaus Otto built the first

Is sluice valve and gate valve same?

Absolutely NOTAs well as I know, a sluice valve, also known as a gate valve, is a way to control the flow of water through a straight line pipe. They are simple in operation and quite common.

Sluice valves are so named because they operate similarly to a sluice gate. By turning a handle, a gate is lowered into the pipe, blocking the flow.

While is a valve that opens by lifting a round or rectangular gate/wedge out of the path of the fluid. Sometimes, it also know as sluice valve. So you can say are same but not absolutely.

How does an artillery weapon work?

Any gun, from artillery to pistols, use the same technology: When a trigger of some kind is pulled, a pin hits the base of a cartridge. A small cap at the base makes a spark which ignites gunpowder stored inside.

Now, the gunpowder doesnt explode, like a lot of people think. Instead, its kind of like a quick burn, releasing a lot of gas in a small amount of time. How does this fire the bullet?

Think of a champagne bottle, the concept is the same. Take a champagne bottle and shake it up, and eventually it will pop the cork. The actual champagne is the gunpowder, and the cork is the bullet; when the gasses from the burnt up gunpowder pushes that bullet out of the cartridge.

Now the modern artillery "bullet" is special in that it can explode right above the ground. This kills more enemy soldiers than one that just hits the ground and explodes. Theres a whole elaborate system of how to aim it, but you'll have to do that research on your own if you want to know about it ;)

And that's the short, easy version of how the artillery, or basically any gun, works. There are more factors out there, but you'll find it if you really try. That's all!

What air pressure must be supplied to remove water from the ballast tanks of a submarine 100m below the surface of the water in order for the submarine to surface?

This question isn't so good, and I'll explain in a second.

First, the answer your teacher wants is "more than 165psi." At 100 meters, the water pressure is 11 atmospheres, or 165psi. If you want to blow the water out of the ballast tanks, you need to apply enough air pressure to force the water out of the boat--or more than 165psi.

There are a couple of reasons why the question is bad.

When a submarine is submerged, they put enough water in the ballast tank to give the submarine neutral buoyancy. If the boat is large enough to displace 10,000 gallons of water and it weighs 60,000 pounds, it will float because 10,000 gallons of water weighs 80,000 pounds. If you add 20,000 pounds of water to it, the boat will weigh 80,000 pounds and it will neither float nor sink--and once it weighs this much, they make it rise or fall in the water with control surfaces like an airplane has. So you don't really have to blow the tanks to get the boat up from 100 meters.

Second, blowing the water out with air is only done in a real emergency. It's noisy, and doing anything noisy in a submarine gets you killed. They even have special shoes with soft soles so the enemy can't hear sailors walking around, and the beaters on the mixer in the galley are vinyl covered so you can't hear them scraping the sides of the bowl. They use pumps to remove the ballast when they need the sub to float.

Good point. That makes it do-able. In neutral buoyancy it would have to be more than 9.9*10^5N/m^2, in order to push the air out of the ballast tanks.

In roughness measureing system what is RMS value?

RMS value is defined as "The amount of ac supply required to make same heat effect in resistor , which is made by dc current, in that resistor"

What are the differences between the new lathe and the old lathe?

I'd have to see the two lathes to tell you, but there are four main reasons a turner replaces his lathe: the new one vibrates less, the new one is larger either in length or in the diameter of the piece it can turn, the new one has a bigger motor, or the new one runs at a slower speed than the old one.

You're asking yourself "wouldn't you want a faster lathe?" No! A turner wants a lathe that has lots of power at slow speeds because it's safer to make the initial cuts on a piece at a really slow speed, and the slower speed will let you make turn larger pieces.

What is the electric usage for the typical chlorine generator?

Salt Generators can run on 110/120 volts or 220/240 volts. They have a transformer that steps the current down to 12 volts so the electrical usage is very minimal. None of the manufactures even mention power usage because it is so low; your pool pump is going to draw 100 times more power than a salt generator. So if you are thinking of installing a salt generator don't even make this a consideration because if it cost you $10 a season I would be shocked (no pun intended).
