How do you replace the tag-illuminating light bulb on a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant?

You can access the bulb for the license plate illuminator by popping the trunk and looking directly behind the plate holder on the trunk-lid itself. There should be a swist type quick release plug that holds the bulb in place. (similar to the third tail-light on models without the spoiler)

Do 20 inch rims fit well on a 2000 galant?

WOW! 20"s on a car stock with 15"s and you ask does it fit "well". About the same as an elephant having sex with an ant....LOL. Yeah, you can force it but, the rim offset places so much strain on your suspension that your cost in new struts, tie rod ends, stabilizer bar links, and new tires (from the car not being in alignment) will cause you to immediately notice that "phat rims" ain't worth the cost of upkeep. Because of the low center of gravity a Galant has, a 17" is about the largest you would want to use without much out of pocket expense. An 18" can be installed without rubbing the wheel wells or a rough ride but the tire is such a low profile, please don't hit anything in the road greater than an anthill. So, if this is the case with an 18"....imagine what the damage to a 20" would be if you hit an unforseen pothole.

Mitsubishi magna advance 99 rego plate lights not working any suggestion why?

If the dash lights aren't working also it's the fuse. It's located in the fuse box under the bonnet and should be 15 amps. If it's just the rego plate light it may be the bulb or you may have caught the wiring loading the boot.

How do you replace window regulator in a 2001 Mitsubishi galant?

I replaced the window regulator in my 03 drivers side front and I found it to be quite easy. Before you start, its best to duct tape the window in the up position to keep it out of your way and to reduce the risk of glass breakage.First you need to remove the inside door panel. The screws are located around the panel and have little plastic plugs covering them up.They just ''pop'' open to allow access to the screws. There are two more screws located behind the door lever and one in the bottom of the door grab handle. You might have to clean dirt out of the grab handle to see it but its there.Once the screws are removed, you have to grab the panel and pull it off of the inside door skin. The panel has plastic tabs holding it in place and you need to pop them off.Dont worry, they pop back in just fine.Once you get the panel to move freely, you need to pull up on it to get the top out of the window sill. After its out of the sill, you need to unplug the power wire plug connected to the switch panel.Once you get the panel off you will see a clear plastic sheet covering the door. This is just sound proofing and once you pull the screws off for the metal door handle, this needs to be cut off with a razor blade.Be careful not to cut it up,your going to need to use it again. After all this, you should be able to see the regulator through a couple of access holes. The regulator has four screws holding it in place. Two on the top,and two on the bottom. The top two screws are located through a access hole on the top of the door skin.A flashlight will help to find these.Unscrew these two screws and then unscrew the bottom screws located on the bottom of the door skin. You should see the bottom screws on the outside of the panel,so there is no need to look through any holes to find these.Once the screws are removed the rest of the window regulator should just slide right out the ''big'' access hole. These regulators are cheaply made and when they go,they break apart,so dig around on the botoom of the inside door skin to pick up whats let of the original.[springs, cable, etc] Now all you need to do is reverse the process. The new one should go in the same way the old one came out.You might need to move the new regulator so it lines up in the top two screw holes by plugging in the power cord and rolling to window up.After the new regulator is in just put everything back the way you took it off.I used sillicone to seal the clear plastic soundproofing back on.

After seeing the length of my post it looks like this would be a tough job but it really isn't.Im not a mechanic but if you can change plugs and wires on your car, this should be pretty easy for you.I hope someone finds this helpful.

What could be the problem with the steering locking up on a Mitsubishi Galant?

Depending on the model and year, there is a problem with steering box. Google "Galant recall" you should find the recall date for this problem. Once you find it, call a the dealer who last worked on your car and ask if you can get a copy of all "recall work" done on your car. How do you change timing belt on Mitsubishi Galant sigma 1200?

Follow these steps to replace the Timing Belt on your Mitsubishi Galant:

1) Disconnect the battery ground cable using a wrench. Remove the splash guards and loosen the accessory drive belt tensioners, then lift the accessory drive belts off the pulleys.

2) Remove the top engine mount and its bracket, the alternator and the power steering pump and leave the power steering fluid lines attached to the pump, and just lay the pump out of the way.

3) Remove the air conditioning compressor and the crankshaft pulley bolt, then pull the pulley off the snout of the crankshaft. Remove the belt guide plate, the timing belt cover cap and the timing belt covers.

4) Turn the crankshaft until the crankshaft timing marks line up. If the camshaft timing marks do not line up, turn the crankshaft one more time, then all the marks should line up.

5) Now, loosen the tensioner bolt and push the tensioner away from the belt. Tighten the bolt enough to hold the tensioner out of the way. Lift the timing belt off the sprockets and pulleys. Check that the timing marks are still lined up.

6) Install the timing belt working in a counterclockwise rotation, starting with the crankshaft sprocket. While keeping tension on the belt, route it over the right camshaft sprocket. Hold the tension, then route the belt under the water pump pulley, over the left camshaft sprocket, then behind the tensioner pulley.

7) Loosen the tensioner bolt, allowing the tensioner to put tension on the belt. Turn the crankshaft clockwise two turns until all three timing marks are lined up again. Tighten the tensioner bolt and the crankshaft pulley and install the rest of the parts in reverse order of removal.
