Where is the EGR valve on a 1995 Nissan Quest?

The EGR valve on the Villager/Quest is located at the top-rear drivers ride of the intake plenum. You will see 2 parts that look almost identical. They look almost like 2 little flying saucers. One is the BPT and the other is the EGR valve. A common problem on these vans, is the rubber tube that goes between the two parts. This hose usually cracks and splits or becomes plugged with carbon. This will trip the check engine light and an EGR code will be present. Replace the little rubber hose (its usually in stock at your Ford or Nissan dealer) and you should be good to go. Good Luck!

Correct way to install thermostat in a 1997 Nissan Quest?

it took me 3 times to get it right without leaking .there's hardly any room ..the springs on the thermostat go in the housing of the part u unbolted ..i call it goose neck..or housing..prep it ..first put the thermostat in with the little nipple thing at the top that's on the thermostat...put it in the housing..coat the gasket with sealer on the side that goes over the thermostat put it on over the thermostat let it set up for over an hour . i put some sealer on the thermostat also just to hold it in place around the edges that meet the gasket ..cause the two times before that i installed it ...it would always fall off and get dirt and oil on the sealant not good.after it's set up put the sealer on the other side of the gasket that meets the engine block... than carefully turn it to where the port for the holes goes on make sure that's at the top and weasel it under the AC line ..try not to bump it at all.... then install it..hope that helps..P.S don't forget to bleed it after your done to get the air out of the coolant system

How do you replace knock sensor on 2001 Nissan Quest?

On a 2000 Quest it is buried in the V between the front and rear cylinder banks.

I would make sure it is the real problem before replacing. the sensor alone is $175 and the gaskets are $50. I was quoted 5 hours labor, so apply an appropriate labor charge and it is not inexpensive.

In my case, a misfire only when the engine was hot resulted in an error code for the knock sensor. I replaced the sensor and still have the same problem.

I erased the error code for the knock sensor and it has not come back, but a new error code implied the crank position sensor ($30) was bad. I replaced that sensor but the misfire when hot is still there.

now there are no error codes so I have no clues as to the real problem.

If you go to a dealer, I would insist on ;

a. getting a print out of any and all error codes currently stored in the ECM

b. allowing only the work which you have personally approved

c. getting a written guarantee that the work will fix the problem

too many dealers do not do a good job of analyzing the real problem, fix something unrelated and then say, well, it needed replacing anyway.
