I can't be too sure of the problem from your description. My guess would be that the ground wire for the rear lights has come off. Either that or the bulbs are in backwards. They are suppose to go in only one way but after time you can put them in backwards. Most likely dual filament bulbs. If the bulb had two nubs on the bottom, it's a dual filament and just needs replacement.
