Where is the starter located on a 1994 Geo Tracker?
Hi, The starter should be located on the right side of the engine, tucked in real close to the engine. If you will look down from the battery side, you should see the starter about in a line with the front side of the battery. If the starter is not working or sometimes not working, try hitting the starter while someone turns the key to the start position...really, this works. Until you can replace the starter, this is a way to keep going. It does mean you need to replace the unit but it's only two bolts and a few wires and looks like an easy job, you need jackstands or ramps or someone tha'll let you use their garage lift. I have to do this so I've been going through the same thing. Hope this helps and good luck. Steve H.

Whats the difference between a lock up torque converter and a stock one?
A standard torque converter always transmits the power through the fluid - even at crusing speed. This results in slippage and reduced effeciency. With a lock up torque converter clutch, once you are near crusing speed the clutch locks up the torque converter so that it rotates as a solid unit. If you need extra power - climbing a steep hill, etc it will unlock. As a result you have improved fuel mileage and less heat generated in the transmission. If you have a tach you will see the RPM drop about 200 ( more or less) when the clutch locks.

How do you change a heater core in an 1994 Oldsmobile 88?
Replacing a heater core on any vehicle is a hard job and that is by a someone that has skill and practice with replacing heater cores. So make sure that it is really bad before attempting this. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being most difficult, most are at a minimum a 5 and some can be a 15. This is not a repair that I would suggest you undertake unless you have lots of time and information is on your side. It can sometimes take hours even if you know what you are doing. Take the time to think this over before you start because it is a difficult and time consuming job. The hardest part is just getting to the core. You have to know how to remove everything necessary to get to it without breaking something. It is very seldom close to being easy. That is one job I always dreaded when I was working.

Which scan tool do you use for check engine light on 1995 Olds Eighty-eight?
You can usually borrow, rent or buy a GM OBD code scanner at most auto parts retailers. Since OBD2 has come out, the old version has been called "OBD1", but that's not what it was called when it was being used. The 1995 Eighty-Eight is a crossbreed. It uses the OBD-II connector but it is an OBD-I system. It appears that OBD-II code readers can handle this but I'm not positive.
What is a possible reason for no heat in 1998 Oldsmobile 88?
The heater core may be stopped up. Try flushing it, or replace it.
I would first check for a vacuum leak, going to or after vacuum selector valve. Check all the vacuum lines to make sure there aren't any holes. They are small hard plastic lines wich tend to dryrot and crack easy, so be carfull not to break them when looking. Replace anything that is damaged or looks to soon be a problem. You also need to check the vacuum at the diaphragms to make sure they hold a vacuum. All of this should be located under the dash, mainly on the passengers side. You may have to check the main vacuum line coming in to the system, located under the hood next to intake. Hope this helps out.

If your 1990 is anything like the 1991, which I own, it's not all that hard just tricky, on mine it was located in front of engine and is very accessible but have to work around a long metal frame piece that makes it tricky. Once you remove the small bolts on housing cover, I used two types of socket sets, one standard and one pivot style head for next to oil pan to get up there in the tight quarter's. Hope this helps a bit and watch out for your knuckles if you need to break bolt free, I got crunched when I hit the frame, lol.

I wonder if there is a problem with an actuator that moves a vane ....which keeps the two sides separate or together as needed... that is disconnected, or has a vacuum line cracked or leking?
